So I just can't seem to figure out Jayce. It feels like all of his power is in the super-charged Q and that if I go hammer form I get blown up.

I was able to bully a Riven in lane pretty effective but I wasn't able to pick up any kills and I felt that going into hammer mode wouldn't get me a kill. Was I playing too scared and you just have to go in hard (like a sciency, non-gator Renekton?). Also what about the transition from mid to late game? Do you just spam the ball for snipes or am I supposed to ride off of early aggression and be an asshole split pusher?

He really is primarily a q bot.

But once you've poked the enemy down a bit, while in gun form, hit w for the three fast attacks, hammer stance, q to enemy, get your three fast auto's, then e them away. A good damage trade.

And hammer q e is a pretty decent execute. He isn't good at skirmishes, but he can make solid trades pretty well with hammer. But definitely don't stay and fight unless you have a clear advantage.

Teamfigjts in gun mode a lot, get your enhacnded Q's in. Hammer qwe when you see an opportunity that won't leave you aruck deep in a fight.

He isn't bad, just doesn't function like most top laners. More of a poke and engage/disengage champ.

So am I supposed to try and be a lane bully and pick up kills in lane? Should I treat him as a champion where I should assume that they will outscale/outperform me should teamfights roll around?

I'm uncertain w/ the whole teamfight in gun mode thing cuz it feels like (assuming they have a tanky frontline) I won't do much to the frontline. Should I be looking for flanks to harass with and save hammer mode to go in for the kill exclusively?

For teamfights yeah, look for chances to overload Q onto those squishied. Hammer q-e executes when you see it, the heath% damage is pretty strong. You can also disengage for your squishied with hammer e.

If you are doing alright and no one in their frontlune is way fed you can do the gun w, hammer to q in triple auto and e back out similar to in lane. You aren't THAT squishy so you can skirmish, just can't stay in a long fight and brawl forever.

And in lame you'll have to make a judgment call. Since you can sit in gun mose you can harass a lot of melee laners. If they don't have a real strong engage or high mobility, that combo for trades I mentioned works very well. If they do have those, stay in gun.

A lot of lane is getting the q poke when they try to cs. Poke them low and that combo I said can nail kills. Roam to mid when you can, e-q can hurt most mids bad from bush, if they are pushing hammer combo them knock them towards your Midlane tower.

He is better then most people think, just got to really make use of both stances at oppertune times. If a hard lane you can farm easy and just farm up for mid game.
