Press the Attack and Lethal Tempo are too similar

For now, we'll set aside the fact that they contribute nearly identical amounts of damage to champions who would ostensibly want oodles of attack speed (Kog, Kayle, Vayne, ect) since that's a similar but separate issue. Instead, let's focus on what the keystones actually DO.

They both offer increased sustained damage. They both offer an explosive burst of damage (giant IAS boost, three-hit damage proc). Press the Attack also has the added benefit of boosting skill damage (and allied damage) against the target as well. As a result, people are just going to be using whichever one happens to provide the best damage source and ignore the other. Sound like a familiar problem? It should.

Rather than JUST nerfing PtA and buffing LT (or whatever Riot decides to do) I think they both need some change in functionality to help resolve them better. Here's what I've been pondering:

Press the Attack should be JUST about steady ramp up and steady DPS. It should be the 'hurt more' rune of choice.

Lethal Tempo should be JUST about providing an explosive boost in basic attack power. It should be about dumping a whole bunch of damage in a short span of time before going on cooldown.

If Riot doubles down on those two identities, I suspect they'll have an easier time making both runes feel useful.

They might be similar, but there are plenty of champions that use PtA that cant take advantage of LT.

Im sure as hell not going to take lethal tempo on Gnar. And Yasuo already builds shit tons of atk speed, so he would rather have PtA as well.

EDIT: This game (and the precision tree) isnt just about ADCs.

The fact Riot wants to nerf PtA worries me too. How the fuck are bruisers going to be playable? Or do they really hate bruisers?

At the moment there is NO ONE who should be taking LT over PtA. That's in part the whole point of the topic.

If a champ basic attacks a whole bunch there should be compelling reasons for choosing each rune. What we have instead is a rune that provides burst, sustained damage, and a team-wide damage buff. Its competition is a rune with a moderate cooldown, a similar sustained damage boost, and none of the other benefits.

The only champs that get more of a personal damage boost out of LT are those that don't have any other reliable sources of attack speed. Even then, they lose out on the three-hit proc for trades and the team damage amp.

yea even tho LT is suppose to be good for basic attack champions. PTA has all of the base covered.the only thing I guess it should have is reset on kill. after all it is called lethal tempo so if you get a kill you can change the tempo of the battle.(I to easy of a joke)IDK its just a idea to throw out there. their just way to similar for basic attack champions.
