Trundle is the Pinnacle of Gameplay Design and Balance Riot should Strive for

I know what you all are thinking. Trundle wtf? But actually think about it

Of all the champions in league I cannot think of a champion who I consider more balanced then trundle.

He fits his Niche perfectly and does his job great without being over bearing. He doesn't do everything.

He is a split pushing drain tank and he does those two things very well and has clear distinct weaknesses. Every champion should be like this. Excel in one or two areas and have clear weaknesses and counterplay. It just seems like lately Riot wants to release champions that do absolutely everything and it creates balance nightmares IE Ekko and Zoe.

I wish they would go back to giving champions distinct identities that they were fantastic and with clear weaknesses so every game it was an actual decision on who to pick based off the enemy comp and what you were trying to accomplish instead of just locking in a Champion with little to no weaknesses because you are desperate for that LP.

Just some food for thought i was recently thinking about

He's a ball of stats, not very interesting and extremely toxic to play against if hes not weak. Should he ever get even the slightest buff he would quickly become one of the most frustrating top laners to play against.

Most of his problems stem from his Subjugate (R) and Frozen Domain (W, the big circle) IMO. They offer nothing but stats and even drain the stats of those he uses his ult on. It isnt fun to suddenly become momentarily 3k gold poorer because he ult'd you. What do you do? Run? Thats you avoiding interaction because it would be a death sentence. You couldnt outplay him during that time, only he could outplay himself. Then he'll catch up due to his W giving him movement speed and his pillar being a strong slow.

That being said I think his kit doesnt require much to be fixed. Chomp (Q) is interesting and unique with its AD stealing mechanic. It's similar to his ult but requires the risk of being in melee range and causes him to lock himself in position. Frozen Domain (W) is a pretty iffy ability but you can walk out of it and still be able to turn and fight. And his Pillar of Ice (E) is definitely a great ability. It's probably the most devastating none ult terrain creating ability in the game, use it wrong and the devastation will be on your team instead.

Trundle shouldn't be considered the pinnacle of balance until at least his ult is changed. Subjugate will always be the reason Riot will nerf Trundle should he become a strong pick outside of counters.

Missed a perfectly good opportunity to call him the pillar of balance.

The only character that comes close to a perfectly balance kit is Warwick ever since his rework, he's been my favorite god damn Jungler in the game and I support 99% of the time (the other 1% I'm just sick of bot lane and want to hunt). Warwick has hit a sweet spot in balance along with Trundle where they both are as good as you are.

I agree with you at least. Trundle is one of the few actually consistent melee champions in the game, barring supports and tanks. He doesn't particularly spike at all, but he's never weak or useless at any part of the game either. Don't listen to the people that throw around the term "ball of stats" as the same people often give ranged carries (aka the overlords of stat-checking) a free pass when it comes to that.

Trundle can make plays without dealing any damage, making him one of the least "stat-checky/binary" bruisers in the game. Half the stats he gains he has to take from an opponent (albeit for a limited duration) anyway.

How can the definition of a stat check champ be perfect design?

Trundle is a ball of stats. Since when were ball of stats “healthy”?

I mean, right now he’s balanced, but if he was buffed the slightest bit, he would go back to sodomizing everyone in the top lane and in the jungle, especially any and all melee champions.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Trundle, but he’s basically Pillar > R > Run them down.

Also pro play! Think of it, pro play right now basically goes like this with meta.

3-4 champs who are either well rounded or so strong their weaknesses don't matter a lot (like Jayce top). Then there will be like 2 champs who counter some of those top tier picks. Boom, there is your champ pool for the split.
