Which champion has never been a meta pick?

Samflash3··3 votes·5,152 views

Seriously, I can't think of one.

EDIT: Azir, Gnar and Kalista don't count since they're relatively new.

doesnt she still have a 100% win rate in the lcs?

Yes, but give such a great LCS win rate and yet is not in every game proves people did not find her meta.

However, she destroys the new jungle so her day may be coming.

Viktor is the only true answer.

  • He's never been used professionally or been part of the meta
  • Only a small cult following of hipsters play him
  • Even his lore is about going against the mainstream
  • In old GD these cult hipsters used SSoVP (Secret Society of Viktor Players) as a signature
  • All posts about Viktor being bad were downvoted into oblivion (unless the post had SSoVP underneath)

I didn't know I was a hipster until i read this.

Sejuani ?

WereScrib2 votes

Sejuani was FOTM and dominated everything with nonstop permabans right after her rework. But I can't call her metapick. She was still a tank which was not in the meta, she was just so overpowered she managed to make a name for herself for a while.

First guy had it right, Sejuani has never been mainstream.

Viktor He is liked by a few people but I've only seen him in the competitive scene once or twice back in season 2 or 3 I think. He will probably become meta with his rework though.

I always hear jokes about Urgot. Was Urgot ever strong?

(I mean, I've seen several people post they got highly ranked with him, but I have to think that kind of singular focus with any champion would have gotten them to the same level of play.)

Urgot was a massive monster and dominated pro-scene in the early S2

Urgot was a massive monster and dominated pro-scene in the early S2

Urgot is what ADC's had nightmares about early in S2. There was wailing and gnashing of teeth, and they cried out "Riot, save us from this monster!"

Riot said, "Behold my OP children. I shall lay waste to thing you fear, and cast it into the depths so that it may never see the light of play again."

And with a few lines of code, Urgot got hit with one of the biggest nerfs in LoL history. He wasn't just removed from pro play, he was removed from ALL play. In a fiery ball of screaming nerf Urgot plummeted into the depths and was never heard or seen again.

He actually was, and that's the reason they nerfed him so much, he was such a nightmare in botlane since he countered all ADCs (well he's an anti adc).

Froggen.

WereScrib2 votes

Froggen made Anivia famous, but she was very popular early on in League as well. Burst and utility, everything an APC wanted then and Skarner wasn't around yet.

There's a reason all the old Skarner guides go on about how great he is for countering Anivia.

Also, Urgot was nerfed due to dominating bot lane, and then nerfed again due to dominating mid and top lane. thats when he became truly useless.

Urgot was absurdly overpowered in season 2 if i recall So much that people COMPLAINED about his extremely high w/l rate. DL played a mean urgot top.

Heimerdinger Mordekaiser

Pryotra5 votes

Heimerdinger Early S1 heal/poke meta had him as the go to mage, as he had 5 turrets and his nade hit towers.

Mordekaiser Had a bit in the sun in S2. Got nerfed over it.

Cro0032 votes

I've only seen Mordekaiser twice in about 300 games (200 ARAM; about 100 rift games). He's definitely not a popular pick anywhere.

I played an ARAM game last night as Mord and everyone feared me. It was fun chasing three enemies as they ran away to their nexus turrets in utter terror.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Mordekaiser Still numero uno in BR though.

Sivir ? Or was she super meta at one point?

Sivir ? Or was she super meta at one point?

Ages ago. A push-like-hell meta developed before season 1 for a bit. Inhibs went down by like 7 minutes sometimes. Sivir, Heim, and Mord were the culprits.

Malphite Never saw him in any pro play, though I only started watching during S3 spring split. Rarely ever saw him during my time playing.

Singed is another one I rarely ever see. Seems to be played only by people that main him or people that are trying to troll. I do know Proxy Singed was a pretty big thing for a while. Not sure if it could have been considered part of the meta though.

Season 1 and 2 the meta golem existed. These two were big picks, as bruisers and tanks were basically all people saw for a while at one point. Malphite has basically always seen play (especially after Orianna was released), and Singed was a huge pick when Force of Nature still existed. You have never seen Godlike status as I have seen some Singed players get to.

Also, I have never seen Malzahar as a serious meta pick. He was popular for a while, but never really saw much pro play.

Sivir ? Or was she super meta at one point?

She was the centerpiece of the "stampede comp" shortly after her rework, consisting of easy to kite but scary bruisers and Sivir to ensure they weren't so easily kited. Either the #1 or #2 ADC in OGN winter.

Sivir ? Or was she super meta at one point?

After her VU she was extremely popular for like 2 weeks or more? Not exactly a perma ban status but she was definetely a top pick, subsequent nerfs came along in patches, nerfing her Q dmg, changes on her E and W, abilities would cost more mana and her ulti got hardly nerfed.

BTW what does "FOTM" exactly mean in "time"? I keep seeing some champs that were actually very popular back in the days, but not really for a big period of time, for example sivir was only popular for like 2 weeks maybe? but never a "perma ban" status.

Right now lucian/corky aren't exactly perma ban status but they are highly popular among players. Beeing a "fotm" means having also a high ban status in ranked? Just wondering

Dunno about malphite, but singed was definetely a "meta pick", "proxy singed" was really a problem, he could go 0/30 and still carry games, and he was also hella tanky due to his passive (this resulted in the nerfs of 2 items)

WereScrib3 votes

Malphite was hyper dominant in S2, he was nerfed into the ground for it. His jungle was scaaaary and his AP mid was well played.

Singed also has seen quite a bit of play depending on the season/meta at the time. He's also, THE face of Twisted Treeline meta.

Sire Hippington2 votes

he wasn't nerfed 'to the ground' He's still very strong, was picked picked in S3 and S4 and has right now a growing popularity at challanger

WereScrib1 votes

He was nerfed into the ground from where he was. Not saying he's bad. he was nerfed until his mains cried, and then nerfed more until his mains cried more. Then the meta shifted away from him. He's not bad, but he's not a must-have mid lane/top lane/jungle WHEREVER YOU CAN FIT HIM pick. Moreover, this is about being meta.

Malph was nerfed out of the meta, very effectively. (Much like Top-Lane Warwick was shortly before him)

WereScrib2 votes

The only champions I can absolutely say haven't been in the meta for a while... are, hrrrn.

I can't think of a time when Brand was ever a meta choice in or out of pro play. Same with Lissandra and Varus

They've seen play, but 'seen play' isn't meta. They've just not been a choice or a FOTM. Its always kind of been "Well I guess thats not a bad pick" at best. Even the Lulu/Varus poke lane was really more of a Lulu meta and Varus was swapped out for Ez or Caitlyn or even Sivir.

Fiora Is/Was a FOTM champ for a large chunk of this year for solo queue, which is still a meta, and is played in every tier of play.

Can we can't reworked champions? Because if so... Olaf is pretty nowhere.

Quinn has never been a meta pick anywhere but Korea, where she was FOTM for a bit alongside Zed back when we thought Zed was a horribad trash champ for...months.

Sion was a meta for a while when he just built AP and blew up lanes.

Teemo was a top lane metachamp due to Rainman and still sees play in every tier. I'm not sure I could call Talon a Metapick, but he was freelo FOTM for a while.

I can't think of a time when Veigar was meta. But I bet he was in S1 before I played often. He proably also showed up in double AP lane times for his anti-Ap abilities.

Literally every other champion has had their time to shine, though. Velkoz may be an exception but he's still seen some play everywhere and was a meta support for a bit.

EDIT: FORGOT VICTOR. VICTOR HAS NEVER BEEN META ANYWHERE.

Was Irelia ever meta, she has always been strong and has been played sometimes in the LCS I don't think she was ever in the middle of the meta. This is the same with Shyvana. Both the champs are able to be played and can win but not picked often.
