Because you don't need to play for the team, you play for kills. (At least that's what the Bronzie jugglers think)
As a jungle main, it's the most enjoyable lane for me. No pressure from enemy laners, just ward your jungle entrances for possible invasion from their jungler. Gank when you see an opening, it's just relaxing. People who play yi have to know what his biggest weakness is, and that cc.
I mean, you're in Gold 4. Of course people are going to be picking bad champs in that elo.
Easy to play, capacity to carry, outplay potential, the meme of league, etc.
