Love Riot, but can't support this.

Welp, really love League of Legends, and the amazingly talented artists of all disciplines that make the game; from the music to the art, the character concepts and splashes, the lore department (as much crap as we give them), the 3d artists, environment artists and gameplay designers, they all do amazing work that I have been frequently awe inspired by since the first day I joined early first season. I'll probably be playing on the day they shut the servers down, whenever that may be.

But I've made my last purchase, (hopefully not but) probably ever. No matter how great of artists and designers they have I cannot in good conscience support a company with a dishonest monetization department. I will not support theft, dishonesty, and corporate irresponsibility, no matter how much some of the amazing work Riot does may make me want to do so :(

The writing off of five years of purchases made by up to 70 million people as "not our responsibility" is without contest one of the most dishonest product and manufacture moves made by any company in our modern age. And most of the playerbase are so self-centered and short sighted, that because these redesigns haven't affected them yet, they don't care yet. But with the majority of the games content left to be redesigned, upgraded, or just plain replaced, it will affect everyone who has made a purchase, it will affect you, but because you didn't stand up for others when you could, no one will stand up with you when you need it, and divided, everyone will lose something.

If Riot takes responsibility for the content it is redesigning by holding previous purchases to an honest, proper, fair, and standardized refund system, I'd love to support the company again, but that's probably not going to happen. And this blinded and cowed playerbase is probably just going to take it.

Still, glad I had leftover RP for the non-gotthic-y Orianna skin I've been waiting forever for ;) And too bad about all the skins I admire and was planning to buy that I now never will :(

Wait... you are mad, because you want a different Refund system? Do you know any computer game software company... ANYWHERE that does Refunds.. like... at all?

Did...I miss something here?

Your criteria for theft, dishonesty and corporate irresponsibility is remarkably shallow. Compare Riot to other companies that openly fleece their employees, commit bankruptcy and tax fraud, use child/slave labor, or destroy giant chunks of environment and/or economy in the name of profits. Riot does absolutely zero of that.

With a game that's constantly updated, features added and removed, Riot's changes are guaranteed to step on someone's toes. The reason for the change in refund policy was to prevent abuse from the side of the consumer. Yes, like it or not, the players can be the guilty party, and can ruin it for everyone else.

I'm with you, OP. The Cass rework opened my eyes to how shitty this system is. My champ became a champ I no longer want to play and yet she'll sit in my roster forever, money wasted, because of this horrid policy.

You going to make a scene about this every few days? Games change all the time, and none of them say "Hey, if you aren't satisfied you get a full refund". Nobody. If you don't like change you probably shouldn't have picked a game that is constantly evolving.

It was snuck in?

I saw it and went "Welp, that takes care of the whiny chumps."

I haven't disliked any of the mechanical redesigns but Karmas and Cassiopeias. But when they do visual redesigns, and then offhandedly and dishonestly refuse refunds for skins which were purchased solely for visuals which no longer exist, I have certain unsavory but entirely justified words for them.

So you want refunds because of texture updates? They are updating old designs, and you want a refund? Did you email Blizzard and ask them to refund your previous YEARS of membership because they updated their textures?

This is honestly the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. Wanting refunds because the skin changed, and you don't like it. Sounds more like sour grapes. I don't go back to Starbucks and say I want a refund for my previous years worth of Pumpkin Spice Lattes because they changed the syrup in 2012... I just don't buy it anymore. You have that choice sir, don't buy anymore, you aren't entitled to a refund and no right thinking company would give you one. /EndThread.

Oh I see it now. I'll call rule #2 of human interraction : assume good faith. Honnestly, what do they have to gain by botching reworks? They have 2 reasons to make reworks : make the game nicer or piss people off. Can you imagine they would only do this to piss their players off? They have nothign to gain from it. NO-FREAKING-THING.

Sure they botched a few ones. You are 100% right to not give them money if you don't like what they do. I know I don't intend on buying anymore RP for the time i'll be playing. Sure they are going heavy handed on the reworks. Some really are new champions and that's something they should avoid doing.

But at least they put the effort to keep the game nice looking. You are in your right to not buy anything more. But for sanity's sake, don't treat them like they're purposefully going after their players.

As a side note, what was the straw that broke the camel's back for you? I don't remember any major changes in the last week. Just more actually new stuff.

why is this under gameplay and balance?

Did I miss it or are you only saying that you like riot and you will not buy anything from them anymore?

Shro0mie12/18/2014, 2:25:28 AM1 votes

Some redesigns like maokai skin updates I really don't like and am glad I didn't buy he skins yet (like I was gonn) That being said, this thread is a waste of my time

I didn't call you names sir, no need to call me names. There's not a baseline comparison for the Revenue vs. Cost models for an entertainment software company vs. Fortune 500 companies that's comparing Apples to Sour Patch Kids.

I want you to be happy, so we'll keep our refund model, and you can go play the games that you like their refund model. I know you can't support Riot, so I support you in uninstalling. Let me know how much you've spent month over month in RP and I'll make sure they don't miss your revenue.

Personally, I think if you buy a skin and Riot changes it, you should be allowed to refund it if you don't like the new skin.

KillerPenguins12/17/2014, 11:08:51 PM1 votes

Riot won't even consider this, not because they're greedy or whatever. They really do care about the players. It's because in their minds the changes they make are loved by players universally and the few people who are whining are just trolls. Of course, only a few people are whining because everyone else has no idea where to whine. Nobody listens unless you get enough upvotes on reddit to make riot look bad, so the vast majority of the community has no voice. This isn't even close to the beginning of riot ruining our favorite champions, but for every person they dissuade from playing a champion, two more go "ooh, shiny!"
