We havent gotten a health cost Champion since Aatrox.
Why is that?
Why is that?
I feel like this is because they are so hard to balance. Look at Vlad, Morde, and Aatrox. Their kits make it so they are either feel super broken to play against, or feel super weak. Mundo is the exception. For some reason, he actually worked out pretty well
Mostly because he doesnt deal boat loads of damage.
Zac worked out pretty well aswell.

Munfo is Weak
Except when Mundo manages to snowball, then he doesn't die like at all and does a boat load of damage lol. I rarely see a Mundo actually snowball though.

I mean, just about any champ with a Health cost, has a pretty good means of gaining Health back. And inevitably fall into the role of a Juggernaut or Battle mage.
Also, because of their health costs instead of mana, they really don't have a good long term limiter. And their only short term limiter is their Cooldowns, which is easily mitigated by CDR. (Unlike say, energy champs who's energy limits how effective spell spamming becomes)
Also, I wouldn't necessarily say Mundo isn't oppressive. But it would feel like such, as he's not a drain tank, and his ability isn't in between kill or be killed.
Probably hard to balance. Atm, all health costs champions are garbage or potentially broken.

Olaf? Mundo?

Olaf? Mundo?
Olaf has 1 ability that costs health and he is considered not that great, because of all the mobility and damage creep over the years. Mundo is balanced on the weaker side, because there is no real reason to pick him over Poppy, Mao and friends, but he is pretty damn strong on Ascension to the point where the enemy team often rages against the Mundo pickers/
Because it would make for unhealthy gameplay obviously.
Personally not a fan of playing HP cost champs. Maybe put a poll up and see if anyone would actually be into having another HP cost champ?
Replying to the statements below/above, I can't imagine what it would be like to balance a champion who's soul design is "heal what you've put out. " It would also be incredibly hard to not do the mistake of "remaking a champion" with that concept.
because having health costs guarantees that the champ will need a way to sustain it back, too
they wouldn't do or bring anything new
and we haven't had an energy champ since Zed.
Riot is staying away from those mechanics because they don't wanna have to deal with the balance headache involved. Especially with Energy, since it not only works fundamentally different than every resource in the game including resource less champs, but its userss are all bound lorewise.
Health cost champs tend to be cancer.
Because Aatrox was a big success
Because Aatrox
