Current Jungle Rengar

So I've been seeing more and more pro players, LCS and challenger solo Q, opting for the full tank Rengar in the jungle over assassin or even bruiser.

I as well have stopped playing assassin Rengar in the jungle cause you seem to fall behind in levels no matter how fed you get making it extremely risky, so I've been building like hybrid/fighter/bruiser when jungling. The issue I've been having though is that if you do not get ahead early you have this like slump of ineffectiveness until you either get full built with loads of damage OR you get those first couple tank items and are beefy enough to survive in the enemies back line.

The reason I'm so trepidatious about working on playing more tankgar is cause since the W nerfs back mid season 4 building him that way just feels so underwhelming. Sure you can dive a back line and your damage is still rather high so you're still a threat to that has to be dealt with, but if your team isn't competent like they usually are then relying on them to focus the right targets and get out their damage in teamfights just leads to my death a lot of the time. Where as when playing more bursty you can blow up splitpushers and separate people from teamfights, as long as you're not cc'd at all ofc.

So I'm just curious as to the general consensus on these different build paths, is tankgar simply more reliable in solo Q since you fall behind in gold and xp in the jungle no matter what or is he too hard to carry with when compared to damage Rengar?

"if your team isn't compitent"

This is the Primary problem with any engage champ. If you build tanky enough to survive the engage, You can't solo kill. If you build to solo kill, you won't survive if you screw up.

I don't actually own Rengar, but I do enjoy playing him. I tend to build more fighter. Particularly with High CDR. Increase you crowd control, damage, sustain, and you will have more opportunities with your ult. I might try building a little dueling potential with a BotRK. Out duel enemies if you can't just pounce on them.

Yeah CDR is a given when playing Rengar, no matter what role you want to fill lol

But you don't honestly need a BotRK for dueling potential on him cause of his Q steroid. If you're dueling someone 1v1 or even 1v2 if you're big enough and you don't have to lock them down with your emp E then with your emp Q you should really be able to kill most other fighters and assassins. And if you want the active to stay on target you could just build Stalker's for the blue smite and get two BotRk actives lol

It is a very good build against a very high health team, but your targets should usually be the lower max health targets anyway, so I don't usually find BotRK to be as effective as many other items.

The other option I have used is the past is Tiamat. It gives me a fair amount of Damage, while clearing camp insanely fast. I usually do something like this when I want to bully the enemy Jungler out of his own Jungle, Or to clear wave if no one on our team can clear or split push.
