Azir will be a serious problem

AP Master Yi was allowed to harass without consequences. His lane dominance was insane. Riot didn't want that, hence the complete rework. Cassiopeia was reworked to be more late game oriented. Riot took a huge dump on her poisons because they were to strong in the lane phase. I'm sure you can name other champions Riot toned down due to their huge lane advantage.

Now we have Azir. Minions that can't be target. Azir can get off free harass making lane phase nearly impossible for pretty much anyone you bring into the middle lane. Azir is going to be a serious problem.

Maybe once they clear out all his bugs maybe.....

I'm almost sure Meditate was the real reason Yi got reworked

Do you realize that untargettable minions means he can't wall himself with those?

Has anyone played against a good azir? I played ahri against azir once and someone told me I was his counter. I couldn't touch him in Lane. Granted, I didn't die either because I had better waveclear and just roamed, but aside from beating him to level 6 and ult-charming a kill, I couldn't even harass him (any trade was lost by the multiple soldier attacks and repositions). If I was supposed to be his counter, either I hope the player was just much better than me or I was doing it wrong, because otherwise I'd hate to see a skill matchup with him....

He's weak to being poked from farther than he can poke (Ziggs, Syndra, Xerath)

And he's weak to instant deadly burst, before he can trade back (Syndra, Fizz, Akali, Talon, Annie).

His early game is pretty darn weak. I've played against a few champs (Ryze.. Viktor..) who basically charged at me and spammed their damage abilities every time they were up levels 1-4 and made life EXTREMELY hard for me. The soldiers do like 60-70 damage (pre mitigation) levels 1-2 and their range is honestly pretty short. Just skirt around the soldiers and beat him up and he'll fall over in lane before he can ramp up. That or play anybody who can get in his face. Most gap closers are on a shorter CD than his E is. You can also bait him into dropping soldiers and if they don't harass you much, he'll run OOM before you run out of life.

God help you if you let him hit late game fed or farmed up though. I play him pretty well (in my opinion; a lot of people say most Azirs are super bad and I was the only good one or best one they've come across) and his ability to zone, move through a fight, and pick off separated targets (or create them!) is truly ridiculous. As it should be for an emperor commanding an army of conjured sand soldiers.

and Xerath/Ziggs dont already do this? Its not a problem when they have weaknesses you can exploit. Any mage can get off "free" harass. Its just the nature of their kits/range.

His early game is weak but his late game is a monster. The issue right now is his skillcap is very high coupled with his buggy abilities (that have hopefully been resolved), so most people playing azir just feed. The question is does he really offer much more than say, xerath, who has a stronger early game and similar abilities.
