Who would you rather have on the team, an experienced Shen top or an experienced Renekton top?

Who's more useful on average?

Renekton I feel like Shen falls off more than Renekton. Not really sure why but I just feel that way. Probably because Tanks like Shen are just fucking awful at the end game LOL

utility tanks do not fall off

Global abilities fall off in the game because of a decrease of needed pressure. Global abilities are more effective early game, not so much late game.

He's still right tho. The ability to protect your carry will never fall off. CC will never fall off. Renekton's damage, mobility, healing, everything that Renekton does will fall off.

Yes but shields become increasingly more and more useless as the time goes on. (Except for Lulu and Janna) but those are because of the stat increases and not the actual HP. This is because shields can't protect against 1K damage critical damage hits or a full Renekton combo. CC is much more stronger in the late game. What doesn't fall off about Shen is his Taunt and W but those are just so easily avoided that I would rather have the Renekton go in and absorb all of the pressure while I trail behind him. Shen is just kind of like hitting somebody with a wet noodle at the end of the game, lifesteal just negates him entirely.

Ye, but Ren has plenty of single target lockdown with his W, while the only useful thing about Shen is his E - and if he doesn't flash+E, often he will simply be melted before he gets into E range of anyone important. And if you're looking to pick off a tank, Ren is so much better.

Mobility does not fall off either - Shen's short range means he's almost entirely useless, especially against a Caitlyn or something. A single knockup means he loses all his CC.

His R time also takes far too long lategame, a simple ~800 health shield will save no one. On the other hand, Ren's R gives himself a fucking 750 health. And while his damage may fall off, his ability to dash through a team and stun the carry for ~2.5 seconds never will.

Shen's E has more lockdown than Renek's W.

Shen is much better waiting for people to dive onto the carry and then peeling them off.

Renekton's mobility is fairly bad. In a teamfight, any champion with cc will stop you, and then you will get melted since Renekton really is not that tanky lategame.

his ability to dash through a team and stun the carry for ~2.5 seconds never will.

His stun only lasts for 1.5 seconds. Very mediocre cc. And that is at 50 fury. If you are dashing through two targets to reach the ADC, then you will likely use up your fury unless it is at 100%. Then the stun is only for 0.75 seconds. That is, if you get to the ADC, because the ADC alone can probably just kite you and blow you up, especially if its a Caitlyn with bloodthirster.

The only way Renekton is better than Shen late game is if Renekton snowballed the early and mid game and is now super fed. In that case, the ADC is probably behind so you can just oneshot them since their damage will literally tickle you. Once an ADC starts getting some items, Renek just turns to poop. At least Shen has the auto attack nullifier on his W and gives his teammates shields and cc.

If it hits, and it's a lot less reliable.

Shen is much better waiting for people to dive onto the carry and then peeling them off.

True, but Shen really becomes a one ability and ult champion in lategame - only your E and R are really meaningful. W's ok but generally too hard to time for it's cooldown.

Too long range dashes, and any CC used on him is less for anyone else.

Meanwhile no one will ever use more than a single CC ability on Shen because they simply don't have to - he's not fast enough to require CC to lock down, he's not enough of a damage threat to be worth CC'ing to protect your carries. Any meaningful CC on him will be to stop his E, making Shen into a juggernaut without damage.

implying Shen's mobility is in any way better

forgetting that Ren has a 750 health boost on his R, more than making up for Shen's passive shield and W. Only when it comes to shielding allies does Ren fall short.

Completely depends on the scenario.

this pretty much. But if we're talking solo queue, I would say renekton, just because a lot of people don't take full advantage of shens ult .

If you dont give a shit bout teammates, renekton. And in yolo queue you dont give a shit about your teammates

I've actually seen both in my games and in top lane. I find it hard to decide but I personally like a good Shen, his ultimate is a life saver during a potentially bad team fight.

Renekton can destroy his laner and one shot their adc.

Shen can make his bot lane so ahead by lvl 6, and by the same time theirs so behind.

Ren, because he can snowball so much harder.
