Thresh .

not a QQ thread, I enjoy playing thresh, and find great success with him.

However, he's undeniably OP. Perhaps not outright OP, but he is too strong at too many things. Let's try to make a quick list

  1. He has passive scaling armor. Even as a poor support, itemizing utility such as item 3069 item 3222 he is somewhat tanky.

  2. Q: one of the greatest pick tools in the game. Seriously, landing 1 Q can END your fucking lane. While you can say the same about Blitzcrank, well, he has more risk because if he does miss, loads of pressure are lost. Meanwhile, thresh still has multiple forms of AoE peel and a free escape if he can position well. This skill seems much more balanced later in the game, but in lane it is oppressive to the likes of Janna Nami . Why should thresh's utility be as high as these girls', while also possessing heaps more kill pressure in lane? Additionally, if he does make a mistake and miss his Q or E, well he is naturally tankier and also has his shield and Free save ADC button W. He ought to be more heavily punished for messing up, in the same way a Nami is if she misses her Q.

  3. Let's move on to E. So far we see thresh being very safe himself while also providing great safety to his ADC. Great. But now he also gets formidable ranged poke? Oh wait that's just part 1. Part 2: AoE displacement (2nd way to interrupt channels) that provides a hefty, but low-moderate length slow. 1 second isn't huge, but considering the magnitude of the slow, it is quite long in that it sets Thresh (or any of his team) a large window to chain CC.

  4. AoE massive and long slow that might as well be a root. This ability would be fine on its own, but given the utility (safety/peel/pick & kill potential he already provides it throws his kit over the edge in terms of what it offers. A little bit of everything. Not the strongest of any , but moderate-strong at all.

Well I tried to keep this short. I know this is nothing new but it really needs to be repeated. No other champion seems to appear in games as often as Thresh, unless they are FotM like vayne or riven atm. Thresh seems to be permanently FotM, and as a someone who plays support more often than not, bot lane can really get quite stale. I get that you try to attract people to the loathed support role with this flashy thresh, but what happened to diversity? When is the last time you saw a Zyra or Sona? Rarely. I can confidently say I have seen maybe 2 Sonas and 0 ZERO zyras in my last 100 games. Where is Lulu, where is nami? the only nami i ever see is when i pick it. Dare i say it, Where is ANNIE!!!!? Just thresh, thresh, and thresh all the fucking time. Janna is rather popular too, but it seems that she is at least getting a love tap soon. Also, she pays for her later-game utility with a quite lackluster lane.

I welcome criticism or if you would add your own points. Also possibly some input on things other supports might need in order to compete more with Thresh. this is long enough. Thank you for reading

tl;dr Thresh is too strong at too many things (i.e. pick potential, kill pressure in lane, overall safety (for his ADC and himself) throughout the game as well as in lane, great peeling, and moderate tankiness for a poor support (even if building utility)). Bot lane is lacking in support diversity.

The problem with Thresh is his insane damage for a utility support. You could literally half his damage and his pick rate would still be fine.
