WHAT is THE POINT OF PLACEMENT MATCHES IF YOU'RE GOING OFF LAST SEASONS RANK?

As usual, you'll have ten placement games to fight through before settling in to your tier and division, ready for the climb. But this time, they work a little differently: in previous seasons, placement games were way more impactful than regular season games. Challenger players could lose all ten games and end up in Silver during the 2014 placements, while Bronze players could go on lucky winning sprees and end up in Plat before getting their butts kicked repeatedly until they fell a few tiers. Neither of these are good experiences, so while this year’s placements are still important, they won’t cause established players to swing as far up or down because of good or bad luck. Your placement will still be heavily influenced by where you ended up last season. If you’ve never played ranked, then your form in your placements will be all that matters!

Finally, with the pretty substantial changes that preseason brought, we figured that everyone should have a fresh opportunity to rise to the top. Because of that, we’re again running a soft reset to player position with the start of the ranked season, meaning you’ll likely place lower than where you ended the previous season.

These are flat out contradicting statements. Did anyone go to college over there?

Before some idiot comes in here and says "Well they're a doing soft reset but biasing it with last season's rank", I know that's what they did you mook.

I'm saying that's BULLLSHIT and NONSENSE.

Makes sense to me. I guess if you thought you were going to just leave bronze behind with some lucky matches you were wrong.

Saint went from challenger to gold 5 in his placements for season 4. So, it's not as cut and dry as you think. Happy laddering!

I never liked the way they did the placement matches in general. I always thought that your first 100 games determined where you were at. Not saying that you wont be placed until you reach 100 games but, 100 games is true placement.

Example would be, you win 10 games out of 15. kda seems good, objectives taken seems good, and minions killed seems good. With all this, you should be (temporarily) placed in plat, maybe higher.

This means that until you reach 100 games, you are not truly plat, your just bouncing back and forth in between divisions to see where a player is truly at. It might not need to be 100 games but 10 games is way to little because inexperienced players could get carried and experienced players could get people who don't cooperate at all.

Now do i agree with completely resetting the ranked system, no. I'd rather not play with challengers and diamonds who just duo que with someone they have played the game with for 3 back to back years. I'd rather just play against people who are around my level (which by the way seems a little off right now...)

I'll try my best to explain.

Older seasons resets were based on (1200+x)/2. 1200 being middle start elo, about silver 3-5, and x your last season's elo. After that your first 10 had a mega impact on placement, then the next 40 had a declining amount of impact on your elo(A GIANT ASS SLOPE). This meant your first 20 games meant everything.

This season however you will have the same initial reset of that (1200+x)/2 but your placements will have no where near of an impact as they did before but you will have more games to prove your self over time. Instead of the huge 20 games meaning everything, its probably set to 60-80 games decline now. Meaning you have a fresh start to climb up without having a couple unlucky games determining your rank.

You wont jump ranks as fast but you have longer to prove yourself before the flat set hits.

If they want couple unlucky games ruining people's ranks, remove promos.

I don't understand how the games after the 10 placement games matter more. Are you saying that your MMR is still in crazy flux after your placements?

Probably going to end up in B1 again. It tends to drop you a lot even if you do pretty well.
