Did all of you guys miss the part where Riot will buff every mana reliant champion's base mana regeneration? They will probably include more powerful early starts for mana users as well, like increase the mana gain from Doran's Ring to 5 mana instead of 2.

What are you taking about?

Obviously he read "removing mana pots", stopped reading right there and made this thread with no context. And he didn't even give a reason why not to remove them.

So Kassadin is getting a buff(?).

stormEdaniels10 votes

Yeah I totally trust riot to balance mana regen around every champion. They have done such a good job in the past. It's not like they attempted to "fix" it before and did a terrible job or anything. I'm going to love having to lane against an mana less like zed/yasuo every game again, until they finally get it right 6 months latter.

You are assuming a lot. They never said they would buff "ever mana reliant champion". They said they would compensate the ones they thought would be the biggest problems which was only a couple, basically. Not sure where you got "ever mana reliant champions" from that.

And to say it will make them more powerful early is even more odd of a claim to make. This seems like more wishful thinking than gathering anything from what was actually said.

Honestly, I'm very scared for this one single change. Everything else is exciting and at least interesting, and this is straight up just perplexing and unnerving. Have you ever played a champ that relied on mana pots to continuously farm, or poke and harass, or just to survive (playing against Zed is going to be a nightmare for squishy/mana reliant champs) ? What about supports? I can't even imagine trying to play a mana reliant support like Sona without mana pots. These changes to mana/regen better be good, because laning is going to suck for some of these champs.

Gubaguy2 votes

sona will be fine, as someone who plays sona support as my ONLY support choice the easiest way to play her is to NOT spam spells. if you Q, then wait for it to come off CD, then Q again you regen enough mana to where you lsoe almost none at all. however if you spam Q, then E, or W, you jsut throw away all your mana.

1000angrybees3 votes

I know that. But I'm saying, when I have no choice but to keep my ADC healthy and have to poke, zone, ward and speed boost my way out of trouble, that's a pretty hefty cost for Sona. The better the ADC the less the costs, though.

Meep Man5 votes

Dont be, anyone who relied on them is being compensated by increasing their mana and/or mana regeneration to compensate. This might end up helping those champions since now they can have nearly the same mana as before but with other items.

kile1476 votes

This is probably the intent, but Riot said roughly the same thing when the changed how regen worked and it took them forever to fix that mess.

Neo Cyrus2 votes

I hate to break it to you but it's still a broken mess.

Neo Cyrus7 votes

Just like how they would compensate for those champs who had issues after the mana gutting of Season 5? All that happened was that all mages got shat on and heavily relied on mana pots compensate setting them back several hundred gold a game. Win rates shifted but didn't plummet since most games have one on both teams. It just made mages weaker than before compared to other classes. The same thing will happen again, and Zed will be on the permaban list again as soon as some of the current game breaking champs get put in their place.

Guy Fox Teemo7 votes

Why? GIve some context, all mana users or mana users who use pots frequently will get compensation for it.

Ionian5 votes

Because you don't always want to rush a mana regen item? Or maybe you're a support?

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

Its not gonna be rushing a mana regen item.... They are gonna do a pass on mana regen, and buff it specifically on champions.

Ionian8 votes

I know that. But I seriously doubt the base mana regen buff will be significant enough to completely replace mana potion at levels 1-6. Unless support get like 3x/4x the regen they have now, and mids 2x.

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

Your doubting what hasn't even been shown yet. Don't judge till you play it.

stormEdaniels10 votes

Past experience tell us that they will not get it right, and it will take a long time to fix. For the less popular champs it may never get fixed, as has been shown many times in the past.

Every Time they have touched mana and mana regen Galio has gotten worse, with no compensation. I don't imagine it to be any different this time around.

Just like all the compensation buffs that not everyone got for the AP item that was removed, or how they pretty much gave the finger to Fiddlesticks after changing the jungle AP item, or leaving Sejuani and WW in terrible spots by nerfing them and their items, which ended up leaving them in bad spots.

They don't have a good track record of this for me to understand why you believe this.

Xonra5 votes

I highly doubt it. Supports like Morg and Sona can start and use mana pots. Riot seems to have some hard on for nerfing Sona, so you really think they will give her any sort of compensation?

They will likely ignore supports completely and give like...30 mana or something to mages in mid and call it a day.

With Sona for example I can start my whatever support item then mana pots. Helps me keeps my adc up and allows me to harass more. Without, you are gonna be screwed if you have a bad ADC who can't dodge abilities and you have to heal. You WILL go oom fast or they will get poked out and annoyed with you not healing them constantly. There just isn't any point to get rid of mana pots unlike the good reason for getting rid of green wards. It seems like a "just because preseason changes" for the reasoning.

I'm scared of change.

Whats going to happen to people that need mana pots in ARAM?

Yormaughm5 votes

Mabye this is secretly a ploy to make summoner 13 useful. . . . . . But I doubt that, it's probably just really stupid.

EDIT: Oh they'll probably end up removing summoner 13 too before the end of season 6. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

If they buff mana for the few who used it, why is it an issue?

If they buff mana for the few who used it, why is it an issue?

Because that's just it, according to Riot and some other people only a few use mana pots. According to others, almost any mid laner can take it for added pressure/to rush more dmg over mana items. Almost every utility support uses them even if they wouldn't in a solo lane. And some should use it, but a majority of people don't bother(Corki, Pantheon, Gangplank, anyone stacking Tear).

You get 1-2 more spells usually with it.

I helps and I get it on Morgana/Sona when I need that extra bit of mana to help them act more. I usually don't get it on much of anyone else tbh unless I am a support and get the extra gold to buy a third pot.

But hey I guess it can work for other lanes.

summoner 13 , anyone?

Dead spell once you've got a mana regen item, especially with a blue buff. I'd rather take ignite, barrier or teleport.

Clarity should have an decreased CD and empower next spell cast to deal extra damage and return mana depending on damage dealt.

Boom, new offensive summoner spell.

Even if mana and mana related stats are going to buffed to compensate on champions that could really use mana pots, im not confident on how well (atleast at first) rito will be able to balance these things

Daedalus8712 votes

I only ever use them on supports.

flibitydoo2 votes

I like to buy them over health potions when I'm jungling as fiddlesticks

since his sustain is so good that you don't need health potions

and the mana potions allow for additional camps to be cleared (since fid needs to mana to cast drain in order to clear camps)

WinBoat2 votes

I'm pretty sure Riot will balance it out. They would simply have to if they take away the mana pots because some champions just burn through mana like no other, and some of the champions mana regens are terrible.

I hate Blitz as I said in another thread, but trying to throw out one hook drops your mana nearly half way. Not just Blitz but other supports and some mages like Brand go through mana very quickly.

If they don't increase the mana regens, then these champions will have to be so precised on when to attack, and will require such a high skill cap.

But I'm almost certain they'll give a huge boost to mana regens.... HOPEFULLY. If they don't, expect every Zed and his mom to show up in mid lane, or Yasuo.

Do you really believe that there is any chance Riot is giving a buff/compensation to Galio? They've forgotten he even exists. He has terrible mana at all points in the game because of his terribly small mana pool and high costs, and you basically have to use them as he is melee so can't even play him like Ziggs for farming.

What about Yorick? He has mana issues off and on, but early those mana pots can help a lot (depends on builds and all obviously but still). There are outliers that most don't think about that will be much harder to play without mana pots. Ziggs into Zed for example will be a ballache unless he is compensated quite a bit.

Yeah, I don't really mind.

Keeping your mana in check is part of what I define as skill. And there's always item 2041 for the really desperate ones.

Except that item 2041 is getting removed as well for the new worse version (as far as starting out that is) of flask that requires you to basically waste gold to upgrade it into another flask.

Silents4292 votes

No this allows them to properly mana gate champions that need it, while the champions that need it because they have crap for mana sustain will get compensated with more mana regen and base mana.

Trust them, this is a better solution for long term balance.

Yfrappefort2 votes

I am scared of this change...I buy mana pots often on Nautilus jungle since mana is a problem without blue buff. You need E for fast clear, and the mana is quickly gone without mana pots. Getting oom in the middle of a fight is also the worst feeling for a tank. I hope Nautilus is in the list for mana compensation.
