As someone who fills all the time, support needs more incentives to play. READ FIRST

When I play league, any queue, I decide to fill. My thinking is that I will be the most helpful as players will be more likely to play what they want. I will get the role variety I like, since I think going one role every game is boring and not fun.

These are estimates, but my off of getting the following roles are:

Support: 85% Jungle: 10% Anything else: 5%

(I don't count any dodges. I remember getting bot 5 times but someone dodged each time. Attempt 6 launched with me supporting.)

Now it's no surprise that jungle is a runner up, with a considerable lead over going any non support role. When I jungle, I can find it hard to find a good lane to gank sometimes (they push too far, enemy is too strong or counters me, etc). Supporting, on the other hand, is too likely to be filled that it needs some love.

Now the way I have seen it, a support's job is to support the carry during laning phase and the team afterwards. They essentially boost the strength of the rest of the team since they aren't meant to provide much of their own. If the team lacks said strength, what can the support do? Nothing.

Supporting is also dull until you find an opening. The carry is the one who farms them, so your income is that extra passive income plus whatever income effect your item gives. The only time you're farming is if you carry is away (I do it under tower to try to prevent the enemy from getting first tower).

The next problem is more of a community issue, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be addressed. Supports are oftentimes the scapegoats, regardless of who is really in the wrong. When I support, it isn't uncommon to see a jungler gank, me able to flee safely, and the carry dying. Sure, my job is to help the carry, but I'm not going to go back in there on death's door and risk a double kill just so you might live. Doesn't matter, I get flamed. Receiving credit works the opposite way. I remember one game I had a Zilean support, and I died...or would have if he didn't ult. I was able to get a double because of that while the enemy left empty handed. The messages sent were "gj jinx." I then replied with "Gj with that ult, zil." Simply put, if you support (fill or main) don't expect credit, but expect plenty of verbal attacks, regardless if you're at fault or not.

To recap, supporting is the least favorable roles in the game, and rightfully so. Their effectiveness depends too heavily on the team's performance, they have to give up their income, and get the rear end of the deal with temammate feedback.

I think the only way to change this is to change the meta. Unfortunately, I don't see that ending well. The good news is that there may be some brilliant minds out there that might have a better solution than that. Hopefully, they may pay this thread a visit.

One last thing: please don't bring up my rank and call it an argument. I dont want this thought out essay to be thrown to the side because I'm in bronze. If I liked ranked, my rank could be much higher up for all we know.

The real question is: How do you improove the situation of supports? Riot tried their best by making supports stronger and how items with very powerful active abilities. But support will probably always be less fun to play, because most people prefer fighting enemies, than asisting allies.

I also play a lot of support and enjoy it. I started to play it when all my friends (and solo games) had people that refused to play it. I found a few support champs that I enjoy and I learned to not only help, but sometimes carry a match with support-mechanics.

It can be done. It can be enjoyed. Find what works for you.

As a 4-season Zyra main, I was happy to queue supp/mid until Ardent meta.

This season it's just straight-up not fun in bot lane. I lost my 20 mpen rune page. I hate comet. I hate that my plants get 1-shot by every melee. I hate that poke is completely nullified by Fleet Footwork. I hate almost getting a kill and then seeing a null orb pop, or see the adc go into stasis because it's 10:02 into the game.

And that's on top of having to deal with all the original obnoxious bullshit in bot lane, like being assassinated by Twitch after every recall, or being flamed for not dodging Blitz hooks when he uses Flash + R.

Just....fuck all of that. Fuck Namis who auto-win trades. Fuck Jannas who cockblock everything. Fuck getting camped by junglers. Fuck everything about Lulu and Draven. Fuck Alistars who never die, aoe heal for free, and spam that goddam cowbell. And fuck putting up with all that just to spend the rest of the game 2-3 levels down from every other lane.

Maybe it's just me, but right now it's more fun to lose playing other roles than it is to win as support.
