Can we get harder bots?

Hello I am Bird··75 votes·4,828 views

Could we get the OLD intermediate bots as hard bots? You still have them on TT I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to implement them to SR.

I feel it's kinda unfair that those who don't want to deal with the toxicity of PvP have to deal with not being able to enjoy the game if they are above the skill level of Bronze 5.

I want level 3 Doombots to be set as Hard mode for bots >.> I'll be there a lot

Heck, I think I'd be there more than I am now.

This is why I support the return of doom bots. Sure you could beat them by split-pushing, but it's really fun to try teamfighting them. Compare to intermediate bots where my friend and I can reliably 2v5 them past 15 minutes by simply running at them and spamming abilities.

You can 1v5 intermediate bots. Just try it in a custom right now.

Yup, I do it all the time.. the bots have extremely poor positioning and they don't react to players appropriately. "Well, 4 members of his team are down, so I think he'll wanna back o- THERE HE GOES FOR THE INSTANT PENTA! AP MALPHITE CARRIES THE GAME ON HIS TITANIC SHOULDERS!" - what I jokingly like to hear in my head when I play against intermediate bots for funsies.

as a foreverbronze, I can confirm that intermediate bots are still not hard for us. level 2 doom bots are where bronzies start to lose games to the bots.

BeatinWarDrumz4 votes

lol Bronze 5? I was bronze 5 for a while and bots were cake then too

It would also give a good environment to actually test new builds, and new heroes reliably, and not risk hurting the game for 4 other players.

Old intermediate bots (I'm talking season 2) were actually easier than the revamped intermediate bots (introduced sometime in Season 3 or 4). However, the revamped intermediate bots are now super duper easy because itemization and whatnot is now really wonky for all of them (due to items being introduced, removed). I don't think they revisited the bot AI at all, and so now there are a few bugs that make them really easy to play against (they don't do their combos correctly more often than before).

Though I agree with you, they should really make an advanced Bot AI.

The old intermediate bots were much harder than the current ones. They were all-around better with builds/skillshots, and they often went balls-to-the-walls. The only problem was that they could get lured under turrets too easily. If they fixed that, I think it would be much better.

The Rewritten1 votes

Well this conversation won't really go anywhere because there is no platform to prove either person is right anymore.

I just remember making a well-upvoted post specifically about how the new revamped AI was harder for beginners compared to the old ones. My experience was super fresh when I made that post so I am confident in my answer.

LatetotheRace1 votes

"My experience was super fresh when I made that post so I am confident in my answer." Not really sure what you mean by that, as the bots were removed quite a few months ago. As far as evidence goes though, I almost never see someone die to int bots now a days, however deaths were actually part of the game back then, and you had to play quite defensively at times.

The Rewritten2 votes

Read the whole paragraph and you might get the context.

Yes, I know that. As I was saying in my first post, the new Int bots are only weak now because Riot hasn't been updating them. They have more bugs and their AI has never changed to fit the meta. Back when they were released, they were actually very strong. The new beginner bots were almost as strong as the old intermediate bots and the new int bots were on a whole new level, which was why I was saying that the old intermediate bots were actually weaker than the new ones.

Only time I ever saw a player die to bots is if they got caught out really badly while the enemies happened to all be really nearby :\ Other than that I saw the same AI abuse I see now. Even barring AI abuse (because I find it in poor sport to cheese a first blood between their first and second towers) they would, in fact goes balls to wall. In fact, they'd go so far balls deep that they were suctioned in and they lost far more than they gained from the play. Bots were gutsy, but ultimately they made very poor decisions very frequently.

If the current bots actually remembered to use their summoners and had their capstones so they were actually on par with players, they'd be comparatively more threatening than the old bots because they play smarter, hard as that is to believe.

It is strange, some champs are quite good as AI bots at the intermediate level; I've seen AI Alistar make some really amazing plays and AI Jax drop wards before engaging so he could ward hop out. AI Ziggs vs squishy melee can be challenging too; he will out farm you and poke you endlessly while never running our of mana (probably the only AI champ I think that is actually better than some players). What is odd about Ziggs though is that against a ranged mid lane he is absolutely terrible; it's like he forgot how to CS or poke.

The Rewritten1 votes

Yes, when the new bots were released, all five of them were extremely good as you describe. The OP asking for the old intermediate bots doesn't remember how poor the AI was compared to the new ones.

When all is said and done, Riot should really revisit some of the broken AI and fix them. Some of them are fine, but some of them are bugged. Right now it's too easy to abuse the bugged AI and finish the game that way.

Very Epic Guy3 votes

I do agree they should be much stronger. Currently, all you'll really find in Co-op vs AI is people abusing the AI to get stupidly strong and just stomp the game (which I don't understand).

The most extreme example I saw was this guy who had Warring Kingdoms Katarina. He stomped the game, and when I checked his profile, he had it just full of bot games with that same build just in different orders of items purchased.

I know for a fact they weren't a bot, they were typing in chat and just generally talking. I have no idea why they would play the same champ over and over in bots of all places...

The thing I'm trying to say is, you find these people in nearly every game. Make them a bit hader.

I openly mock Malphite-bot for using his ult as an escape ability. Tested it in normals, synergizes well with Dead Man's plate. Not that anyone should ever do this. Ever. Just don't.

Just wait, you'll get your wish when dominion is gone and all the bots from there hit the rift.

There are a bunch of features Riot is behind other companies in adding to their coop vs ai game mode, which can befor the most part easily accomplish by just not have disabling them in all but in one game mode: a broader range of ai difficulties (other games have five, though Riot have begun to add new bots to ai, including Olaf, GP, Yasuo, and Teemo, so maybe this is the first step), new champ select (which is supposedly coming, but no eta), and champion mastery/hextech crafting (since mastery is a representation of long term commitment to a champion, and since there is no option to not play champions other than uninstalling, it comes off as an arbitrary exclusion to limit mastery to pvp SR when it should be enabled across the board).

As much as id love a more challenging pvp vs pve type environment in League, Riot will never allow it to be a permanent thing. They want people to play in 5v5s because its shown that in those environments people are more incentivized to be more competitive which results in spending rp on champs, pages, and flashy skins for whatever reason. If you play alot of bot games, youll notice a very miniscule amount of people actually have skins in them. They also show that they do not want people to play bots by making you lose -20% ip from bot games at level 30, and getting no mastery points unless you are on the Rift. They push summoners rift so hard because it ends up being where their revenue comes from. More competitive environment = $$$$$$

Sluiceway1 votes

I play nothing but bot games and featured game modes, and I regularly see teams with two or more skinned champions (including me on occasion), and have had up to four skins on my team, and I rarely have a team with no skins (which happens mostly when the majority of the team is playing a free rotation champion). I noticed this because, no matter how many skins the player team has (without hitting the five max), the bots tend to have exactly one more.

Edit: For example, two back to back games I just played tonight had (1) Subterranean Nautilus, Warring Kingdoms Zin Xhao, Zilean (me), Malphite, and Hired Gun Lucian (2) Frozen Terror Nocturne (me), Nami, Heartseeker Ashe, Akali, and Grave Lord Azir.
