What if Mobility Meta is a good thing?

Bear with me.

Mobility exists on a spectrum.

Chogath /Darius /Anivia Here's Nice, I'll Stay Here Garen /Gangplank /Nautilus Better Than Nothing Skarner /XinZhao /Sivir One Nice Skill (or a few meh ones) Akali /Fizz /Gnar Pretty Nimble Kalista /Nidalee /Ahri Lord of Mobility

Imagine a world where Riot looks at every champion and does three things:

  1. If your mobility skill is mediocre, we buff it: if you don't have one, you get one. Most champions jump up a tier on mobility.
  2. If you have a skill/combo that shuts down mobile champions, you lose it. Point-and-click is bad, no-counterplay stuns are bad, people get skillshots, and so on.
  3. If after 1 and 2 you're still underwhelming, we buff the ever-loving shit out of something. Kog'maw? His R has no cooldown and its mana ramp is slower. Cho'gath? His ult comes with resists and stacks 10 times. Anivia? The ult gets a little bigger and the slow gets more intense.

What happens? Maybe this is a more interesting game. By turning it into a game where the harshest punishments come for being in the wrong place, and the majority of champions have a way to be in a different place, it could actually be more skill-based. This might be a worthwhile goal, and it might be where Riot is trying to take the game.

I don't think the "hate" that people complain about mobility is just because of mobility. If every champion had some sort of mobility (or were damage gated vs how much mobility they had) I do not think there would be this out cry that we see so often.

Take Veigar just as an example. Ignoring the buff/nerf to all of his abilities other than Event Horizon for a second. If Veigar had mobility the change to his EH would not be that a big deal. If very few champions had mobility (so that it was rare and gated) it would not be a big deal. However, because it is his only defense vs the Age of Mobility it is a big deal. In a vacuum, these changes to him might be a straight buff. But if it weakens him vs any champion with high mobility (and there is a lot of them) then he is weaker. So yes, if champions all had a way to deal with mobility or had mobility themselves it WOULD be a better game. But unless Riot takes 50 or so champs off the table until they are reworked to comply, you will just see all of these posts complaining about it.
