Why Doesn't Anyone Play Zyra Mid?

SpongebobIsLife··3 votes·2,826 views

I'm rarely curious as to why I haven't seen a Zyra mid (besides myself) since S3. She has so much damage and utility, can initiate teamfights, and is the perfect carry for solo que. I haven't even seen her in the bot lane. Honestly, with her kit, im really surprised she doesn't see as much LCS play as she does. Any comments or points of discussion on Zyra?

Because she lacks mobility. Because she is skill-shot based, which is more difficult against mobility. Because she has long CDs.

Three strikes, you're out.

her cds aren't that long. her q has the same cd as Xeraths. Her ult also has a 66 cd at 3rd rank, that's not long at all. Her E has a eh cd, but she definitely doesn't have long cds. And most mids are skill shot oriented so...I agree that she locks mobility but so does xerath, annie, orianna, lux, swain, and Ziggs, yet they have all seen lcs play.

Xerath and Lux have insane range. Orianna and Ziggs have conditional mobility and a little CC. Annie has a hard stun and crazy burst, and usually is much tankier than most mids. Swain's ult lets him 2v1 fairly well, and he has a snare. He's also really tanky.

Her CD's aren't *that *long, necessarily, but everyone else's are much shorter or much stronger.

Zyra has pretty average range, one skillshot CC apart from her ult, is usually very squishy, has very low mobility, and is just in general better as support, although lately she's less good than most at that too.

Mobility Creep at it's finest.

Pretty sure all those things apply to Xerath.. But he's in pro play all the time

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

exactly, which is why I don't understand why she isn't played. I mean sure xerath has long range but on the same token, cait has 650 aa range, yet Lucian, and Graves both have 500 and 525 aa range respectively, yet they are played often. So I see no reason why she isn't played in the LCS.

Major Sparkles1 votes

Because graves and lucian have mobility. Zyra doesn't.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

I still don't think that should be an issue. The adc meta was arguably the same when SKT1 won the championships that year. Mobility should not be the gating issue for pro players.

Major Sparkles1 votes

Mobility is huge. Especially for pro players.

Xerath has range and better AP ratios.

xerath has a stun ... and he can affect other lanes from farther away.

Her passive doesn't help her at all if she doesn't die.

Her passive doesn't always help when she does die.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

it helps more often than not.

Linna Excel6 votes

I've seen it once or twice and tried it once or twice. She's a viable mid but not meta.

Her big problem is she lacks mobility.

SpongebobIsLife3 votes

She's very strong if you can land her abilities, I win my lane 100 percent of the time as long as im not laning against leblanc.

Mandang03 votes

Her immobility hurts against a lot of the current picks mid, but honestly she's still fine unless you play at the level where not picking the absolute best champ in the lane matters.

A lot of people stopped playing her because:

  1. She got nerfed
  2. They build her wrong (should get penetration items ASAP)
SpongebobIsLife2 votes

not really. despite what people say and think, most mids played are actually immobile. You don't see as many zeds as people like to think nor do you really see yasuos. I am telling you, she dominates most matchups. And the ones that give her problems can be played against. Imo, I think shes a better orianna.

Mandang01 votes

I guess I'd like to see the numbers, but I feel like the immobile mids that I see are mostly very long ranged, like Xerath (pretty much only Xerath). I personally like Zyra mid, but I wouldn't say she or other immobile mids are very common without Xerath levels of range. I haven't seen an Orianna in ages, honestly.

are you referring to the LCS or solo q?

Both. The champs I see in solo q don't differ much from what I see in LCS.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

I rarely see the "mobile" champs as you've said. The only one I see on a regular basis is katarina, but that's an easy lane for zyra.

Ew. Don't compare my clockwork lady to that plant. Don't have anything against her but don't compare the 2. Completely different mechanics and play styles go into the 2. Otherwise, have a good day sir! :D

they have similar kits.

unless enemy kills you before you actualy do something

she is the jungle free gold jackpot

SpongebobIsLife2 votes

false. you don't gank zyra if her ult is up.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

why would i wait till she gets lvl6

any jungler with any kind of mobility will just camp her lane from the start to the end

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

ok? she also has an easy to hit snare followed by a pretty nice slow. It's not as easy to gank her as u might believe unless she is just pushed that far, but then you can argue that against every single mage.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

cant you like juke or something

her snare is the definition of predictability since you see the seeds before she uses it, and it also shows you where will her root go

if she hits she is safe, but if she wont and that might happen rather often she is dead

she is a realy good hypercarry mage, but her early weakness should be lack of damage not lack of life

Goosetard2 votes

League of mobility creep

Fitz n The Fool2 votes

genarally because she does just as much damage as a support

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

she does just as much damage as annie if you land her combo right. And not necessarily, as a support you generally build frost queens claim and a sightstone. both of those items could be replaced by something more powerful.

Bisaknosp2 votes

if you have a team that protects you you can wreck everything with zyra she only CAN be a good pick - depends on the matchups and your team

Leblancs Boob2 votes

Zyra gets absolutely destroyed by assassins (Zed Katarina Leblanc Akali ) and to make it worse the mana regen nerf hit her pretty hard when she already wasn't very much favored. She is viable but you have to be extremely good with her to make it work.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

I don't have a hard time with zed or kat. I assume she would have troubles with leblanc, but I think with the way akali is now, she'd be fine against her.

Leblancs Boob1 votes

Zed and Kat destroy her harder than LB, and yeah maybe Akali's current state won't be as hard for Zyra. Zyra has no instant disrupts for Kat's ult and even pre-6 Kat's instant mobility and point-and-click poke while being resourceless makes the matchup incredibly diffciult for Zyra. Against even a half-decent Zed, however, the matchup is nearly impossible for Zyra to win.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

I have no problems with kat, honestly I find it pretty easy to win once I get chalice. And I haven't played the zed matchup yet but I have read that it's really tough on her. I wanna play it to see theres ways around the matchup.

Be the first.

SpongebobIsLife2 votes

ive been spamming her, with amazing results. highly recommend it.

MrBuffington1 votes

She's an underrated midlaner imo. I think Orianna just became the default control mage for mid lane in professional play because someone played her insanely well (IIRC it was Toyz), and so everyone just plays her if they want that playstyle (either that or Azir).

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

Agreed. I just find her to be just as reliable if not more reliable than ori.

Llanite1 votes

Because people only want the most OP champs and/or playing with the least effort and/or having epeen to show.

5G8Nri0B541 votes

REALLY easy to hit with skillshots due to her low speed, extremely squishy, and all of her abilities are quite easy to dodge.

You remember how Riot fully admitted AP Mid Zyra was completely balanced? But they had to gut her because she was OP as a Support?

imonly4noobcakes1 votes

I do..so I wouldn't say NO ONE does.

Economicz1 votes

Get ganked. Throw our you slow moving vines, but they can't catch the jungler and you die

Salidfingers1 votes

I play her mid all the time usually when the enemy team picks nasus because i know he is going to have 800 stacks and i like to be able to lock him down in team fights
