High Win Rate = Low Win Rate Teammates?????

Riot logic

Your matchmaking algorithm is so fucked up.

Why can't you randomize so that it's actually random and fair???????

Instead of: no matter how well you perform, matches will be fair. Because we throw in more retards.

If your winrate is high, you're likely not where you're supposed to be.

That's why this ranked system is so weird, it starts punishing players with above avarage/high winrate before they even reach to the rank where they bélong. I haven't even played 15 ranked games this season and already I'm noticing some extreme irregularities in matchmaking, like being matched into a game where 2 opponents are plat, with a team that has 1 silver and 1 unranked (with only 1 game played) while the rest of the participating players are gold.

I get large LP gains when my team wins these games and lose little if I lose, but if the gap between my opponents and my team becomes too large no LP gains will be enough as I won't be able to win games consistently, seeing as I'm not a challenger player who can carry against all odds, heck, I'm not even plat.

While most people don't care about 3's I happen to love it and got really good pulled off a 50 game win streak. Then riots system decided to really ruin my day by putting me on a team with a bronze 3 a silver 4 and myself. Now normally I am a big advocate of rank doesn't really equate to skill. To my dismay though the enemy team had two diamond players and a challenger player. All I can say is how is this fair. There should never be that big of a skill gap in a match made game.

Welcome to the life as a support, with retarded ass teams.

yeah, on my other acc i won like 7 or 8 in a row and then after that i get teammates who make horrible choices, but i rarely say anything. Then the whole team pins the blame on me the support main and agrees to report ME for feeding while the whole game im trying to save the dumb adc who keeps killing themselves.... sometimes idk why i even try also, in silver 2 on my other acc, i got matched with plats and diamonds.... not only that, one game i had someone who was playing their first ranked game ever...... Pretty much silver is terrible for supports because their team is usually super toxic or just dumb in general.

Spacesuit Spiff4 votes

I had this at the start of the season, i think it calms down a little after more games. Not a lot of fun going "the enemy top lane has one kill for every minute of the game, how do i deal with this as support???"

Rand0mH3r0X4 votes

I would prefer to be matched with people with similar winrates for the skill, instead of being bashed into a 50% winrate by the simple virtue of having bad teammates. That way I can blame myself for being so terrible.

To even out the team MMR, they sometimes put 4 low MMR players on a team with one who has an MMR much higher than average. That's why if you're really good it feels like you always get idiot teammates.

Gotta carry.

it does feel like this, and it does feel like the closer (or further over) 50% you are things get tougher.

no idea if that actually the case though i don't keep an eye on my win rate.

MR KIMCHI SENPAI2 votes

I think at around 65% to 70% win rate, the algorithm kicks in and does something stupid like puttingn 3+ sub 50% win rate teammates. I've been noticing this in all tiers. I still climb because when my win rate goes down games are fair again but the climb is slower.

I don't think anyone can climb fast enough by the season end, unless you are a smurf.

Jambajewz4 votes

I have 2 lvl 30 accounts, both are S3, both qualified S3 this season. I was playing on my other one, Zilean one trick, supporting every game to guarantee I could pick him. I started the season 15/7, skipped from S3 to S1, then the algorithm kicked in, I lost 18 of my next 21 games. It was unbelievably frustrating, I felt like the system was angry at me for finding a champion I liked and excelled at. It was almost impossible to solo carry a game from support when top, mid, and jungle all fed, or afk'd, and I had to give up the role completely to even have a chance at straightening out. I had a high 1400s MMR after my initial stint with a 68% win rate, and it dropped to almost bronze level after the losses. The system basically said, you're too good to be in this bracket, so lets stick you in teams where you can't win until the computer thinks you're shit.

roitferret1 votes

same thing happened to me with Vi in y promos i plced in s2 made it to s1 then tanked all the way to b1 cuz the same thing granted i can get better but its ridicoulsy frustrating when im trying to climb even now i cant leave bronze cuz once my win rate hits almost 50% everyone in lane dies within 4 minutes or an afk or something stupid granted in the end i know i can get better and i shouldnt complain but idk shit sucks

Jambajewz1 votes

I managed to stop the bleeding when I hit 0 LP in S3 on my way down, I switched to taking him mid so that I wouldn't be funneling resources into a carry I didn't know if I could rely on. Now I play mid/adc zilean and sivir, and I'm starting to win again. I haven't played much since the mastery 6/7 release, but I'm 6 with him on one account, and 5 with him on the other with like 85k mastery points between the two, there was really no reason I should have been losing so consistently when I get an A+ or higher on him almost every game.

roitferret1 votes

same im 6 on vi have idk how much mastery and ussualy get an a or b doesnt mke sense even when i start games like 2 0 2

BluePolarizer2 votes

check my main (this account). I went on a 10 game losing streak with Hecarim because I rose too fast to plat 3.

Jambajewz3 votes

The worst part is, they basically force a huge losing streak on you if you're not some challenger god, then the losing streak kicks your MMR so hard in the balls that the system thinks you shouldn't be where you are and tries even harder to make you lose more.

That's not how it works.

Matches are winrate blind. Your mmr is independent of your win rate because not everyone starts at the same level every season. You can have a 50% winrate in bronze or in diamond.

What you described isn't a thing. You might feel that way due to a confirmation bias or for some other psychological reason.

That's not to vindicate Riot. Based on what they've released, their matchmaking algorithm does have faults, if for no other reason than the controls on who you can DQ party with are too relaxed. Also they're using an individual rating scheme (Elo) in a 5 v 5 team game where it doesn't work as well.

MR KIMCHI SENPAI1 votes

MMR isn't even related to win rate?????? herpy derp????? You can have different win rates but the same MMR. We are just talking about the win rate, nothing to do with MMR.

There's an obvious empirical evidence supported by a community of people that win rate is taken into the matchmaking formula, or at least as a result of something else.

Asyde1 votes

There's an obvious empirical evidence supported by a community of people that win rate is taken into the matchmaking formula, or at least as a result of something else.

That something else would be MMR. MMR is directly effected by winrate and matchmaking takes your MMR and matches you with "similar MMR" teammates within a certain rank threshold (+/- X number of divisions etc..)

One exception to this is with premades. RIOT stated in the round table that if matchmaking can't find a premade of equivalent MMR/skill, it will match that premade with solos/duos of a higher MMR/rank to compensate the advantage of being a premade.

That of course is an entirely different subject, but I'm almost certain actual winrate is NOT a part of matchmaking (other than how it effects MMR).

MR KIMCHI SENPAI3 votes

wtf are you talking about??????? MMR is completely different.

Player A has 50% win rate and 2000 MMR Player B has 50% win rate and 2000 MMR Player C has 50% win rate and 2000 MMR

These players would be in a match together because they all have the same MMR.

Player A has 35% win rate and 2000 MMR Player B has 50% win rate and 2000 MMR Player C has 65% win rate and 2000 MMR

They still get matched together, but now the win rates are different.

Player A does not equal Player C Player A is much worse than player C A will go down until its win rate is 50%, C will go up until its win rate is 50%. The difference could be a division or a whole tier.

But Riot algorithm thinks Player A = Player C. This is unfair matchmaking if you are player C.

Tell me where I am wrong in this

IcyPepper1 votes

I don't quite understand.

Matachmaking is supposed to make both teams relatively equal.

Are you saying that if you have a high win rate, your four teammates should be as well as well as the five enemy players?

I thought matchmaking was based off some MMR algorithm, not win rate.

Jambajewz4 votes

HIgh win rate will increase your MMR, if your MMR is significantly higher than the average MMR of the bracket you're in, it will match you with players that have an MMR that is lower than the bracket you're in so that the average MMR is roughly that of the bracket you're in. It essentially forces you to carry shitter teammates, when your enemy team could all be roughly the average MMR of the bracket. If you're playing an isolated position, or support or something, where you can't be all over the map to help your subpar MMR teammates, they will likely lose their matchup, putting you at a significant disadvantage. You're forced to carry, because your teammates are almost guaranteed to lose, and you won't get off of this terrible dive until your MMR is lower than the bracket you're in, potentially falling 2 or 3 brackets before you're seen as the liability, and placed in someone else with too high an MMR's game as their hinderance. Then you can start climbing again.

Goosetard1 votes

No it won't. If your mmr goes up you play with other people of similar mmr. That's why you see people rageposting about "I'm silver V and I was in a game full of plats wtf rito." The matching system is rank-blind besides the (poorly designed) controls on who you can party with.

FearEngineer3 votes

The matchmaking system doesn't do a good job of handling outliers in its average mmr team matchups.

Ie, it doesn't take into account that a team of players with low mmr whose average is held up by a player with a much higher mmr will function much differently than a team with moderate mrrs held back by a player with a much lower mmr.

It's that math that we first learned back in elementary school- outliers can skew an average so you have to be careful about drawing conclusions using them.

Goosetard1 votes

The only way that happens is if you're at a very high Elo where you've been in queue forever and there aren't any other choices...

...or if you're in a premade, which is why Dynamic Queue is a clown fiesta of shit-tier competitive integrity. In a pure soloqueue what you're describing (outliers in average mmr matchups) doesn't happen.

Communist Toast1 votes

I believe the system matches you so that your MMR of both teams are about average, not average to the bracket.

Nemesised1 votes

it is so sad that this is a a thing but unfortunately it is. I have went though this several times falling two or three ranks which takes a lot of games to recover from. The grind is real! I feel like the algorithm should be simplified. match you with people in your rank....if your winning you rank up.

Tell me, how is an unranked with 14 deaths, (7 average with maybe at best 1 kill) equal to bronze 2 mmr while I have better K/D/A (Positive in fact) and better winrate. If your logic held, we would still have some plats facing silvers and etc.

Quepha1 votes

I'm the one saying you should match only by MMR, meaning bronze 2's against bronze 2's, plat 4's against plat 4's, etc. (with some wiggle room to account for how LP is more volatile than MMR)

You're the one saying that winrate and other nonsense should give you boosts and penalties beyond the movement it causes to your MMR, meaning that a silver player on a hot streak would be matched against high golds or even low plats, the exact kind of winrate rubberbanding that players erroneously believe exists and cry for Riot to put a stop to (when they actually haven't even put a start to it).

Unranked doesn't mean less than bronze, it only means they've played fewer than 10 ranked games this season and their MMR is extremely volatile. The game matched you with him because it thought his MMR was about your level.
