How to make rank advances more smooth
Promotions makes climbing the ladder harder, its something many have complained about and its rather rough, However compared to season 1 it can be just as safe as it annoying
But heres a question what about those people who can constantly get up into their promotions and such, but always get knocked down? The skill gap isnt huge from one elo to another and usually the crowd you are playing with before your promotion series are from the next couple levels anyways.
Which made me think, is there some way to leave promotions in place meanwhile helping those who get stuck in a vicious cycle like this?
You could revert it back to season 1 ranked where it was straight elo and no promitions, but lets assume riot and us dont want that.
Another option is to set a match limit. Just as an *example once you enter lets say 75+ lp, the next 10 games are recorded, now you have two options 1, win your series promotion as normal (2 out of 3 wins) OR if you win 6 out of the next 10 games regardless of them being in a promotion series aslong as you maintain an lp of 75 or above.
example: start 76 lp (at this point you are told win your promotions or next the next 6 out of 10 games without dropping below 75 lp)
win +18 lp (now 94 lp)
win + 6 lp (now entered into promotions)
Lose X - - (one loss on promotion series)
win X + - (one win on promotion series)
Lose X + X (failed promotion series drop down to 79 lp
Win + 20 lp (now 99 lp)
Lose -16 lp (now 83 lp)
Win + 17 lp (now entered into promotion series)
Lose X - - (one loss on promotion series)
Win X + - (at this point you have 6 wins and 4 losses, you have completed your promotion series you now advance from wood 5 to wood 4)
(if you were to lose atleast 5 games then even if you remain above 75 lp your "need 6 wins out of 10 games" would reset)
This still sets the limit at about 2/3s of your games won which is what is required to pass promotions anyways (yes the ratio isnt exaclty the same but close enough) riot wants you to be winning a majority of your games to advance which this is still requiring you to do. Another problem that this solves is the whole reaching 95+lp. We all hate it, its dumb and frustrating especially when you are trying to rise in the ranks (as we all are in ranked).
Some specifications that would have to be met, so refering back to the example (*), say if you lost your promotion series you couldnt be placed any lower then +75lp in that bracket, HOWEVER if you ever do drop below +75 lp the 10 game streak becomes null and void. Again this will help keep people in their place if they dont deserve to go up.
Maybe 75lp is a bit low for the 10 match counter to start. That isnt the point, the numbers can be figured out later. The point is to keep the theory of advancement the same, you win more then a small majority of your games you should be advancing, all the while empowering those who have the skill to advance and still restricting those who dont.
If you complete the promotion series getting 2/3 wins great for you, you advance more quickly then those who have to wait for their 6/10 wins :D, if your promotions suffered because in your first game a troll thought he would be funny by becoming your gatekeeper and feeding then its okay you still have a chance. With this method it only makes it slightly easier to succeed in your promotions.
So you can throw the argument "But man, now promotions will be too easy and any wood division can climb to bronze" Well actually not quite. If you shift the win and loss patterns around there are only a few ways in which someone can actually make use of it. The only way one can really make use of it is if they are actually consistently succeeding. No one is perfect, not even the pros. (Thats why they also buffed junglers so they dont lose jungle buffs if executed) now we just need to do it to promotions instead of just to jungle buffs.
TL:DR give players who actually should be advancing a better fighting chance at being promoted with out making it too easy.
This is a super rough idea I had while in a game and id like to see how people think this could be improved without making it too much easier
