So what is the state of Ekko and will the preseason changes help his AP Role?

Basically im just interested in the Opinion of the Boards Population or at least the unbiased part how will the Preaseason changes

  • influence the performance of AP Ekko?
  • will it make Tank Ekko no longer viable?

and if you think the rework is not hitting the mark

  • which changes do you think are necessary to make AP Assassin / Skirmisher Ekko viable?

Tank Ekko no longer gets healing from the ult, and the slow on his passive has been removed. What he was given in exchange for these changes was 10% increased ap on his Q, and now ulting through his parallel convergence detonates it. Will this help Ekko? Honestly? No. Not in the slightest. Ekko has received so, SO many nerfs as a result of tank Ekko that AP Ekko has become so much weaker as a result. His base damages have been hit, his stun on W was hit, AP Ekko has basically been beaten over the head by the nerf bat despite the fact that it was doing nothing wrong, Tank Ekko was.

It's like being the innocent brother while the asshole brother keeps messing shit up and you get blamed for it every time

"This will be the change that finally kills Tank Ekko!" Says increasingly nervous man for the 11th time this year.

jokes aside, I do think that next patch's changes will finally make AP builds better than tank ones, at least in soloQ. Actually I'd say that they're about even right now, so the changes should kind of be the finishing blow.

I don't think that means AP Ekko will be good, mind you, just slightly better than Tank Ekko. I think he could still use some work, like maybe not having so much of his damage potential be in his ultimate, and I also think that the meta doesn't favor him. When heavy waveclear burst mages aren't as meta, I think AP Ekko will be stronger.

I also think that if the changes to AD Assassin itemization work out well, then Riot should consider making similar items for AP Assassins - AP, flat pen, out of combat movement speed, and some kind of roaming-oriented passives or actives.

I'm a little more optimistic. the increase in his Q damage is going to increase his pushing power. Which gives him presence in play even when he's a little behind. His w-ult change will allow for his glass cannon builds to be a little more reliable.

I think AP builds are going to be much more desirable. Whether that is an Assassin build, or a utility build, or an AP Bruiser build.
