Champions are getting too complex and it's not a good thing. Now I know as a regular players league may not seem complex, but imagine for new players. It pushes them away from the game and alienates them. Even I, a returning player, had to look up almost every champion I used to know like the back of my hand when I got them in ARAM. And yes, I had to look them up during loading screen because you can't just quickly read them at the beginning anymore. Before it was like: "Q makes you run fast and deal more damage next auto"

Now it's: "Q makes you run fast, and if you can W the enemy while running fast you will do more damage to him; This will also leave a mark that can be consumed by your E, if you can get this combo off you will be able to cast your R"

Like what happened to all the simplicity? I don't get why simpleness is a bad thing, honestly. I feel like league is dying as a game you can have fun in after a long day and turning into a job for the LCS big boyz to show off in by doing 5000 pages of homework. If this is all coming from a returning player, imagine how new players feel.

Now let the downvotes and "git gud" comments commence.

I don't know man. Braum, jinx and Nami are pretty darn simple.

Complex characters are fun because of the skill expression and time to mastery. Getting a new champion is a significant blue essence investment, and if you use up a lot of your BE to get one, you don't want that champ to be, "play 2 games and I get the gist of it."

Among the old champs lee sin, Jax, mordekaiser and Shaco are quite complex so it's not even a new champ vs old champs thing.

Those champs are actually quite old now lol. I understand not wanting to be able to master a champion after one day, but right now I feel like it's to the point new champs take a few games to even play decently. It should be more so that you can play a champion decently with relative ease but need time to master it. Not you need a few games just to even get used to one champion's abilities.

6300 champs shouldn't be considered old if your initial statement holds this statement.

Champions are getting too complex and it's not a good thing.

Regarding this point.

It should be more so that you can play a champion decently with relative ease but need time to master it. Not you need a few games just to even get used to one champion's abilities.

I disagree. People enjoy varying levels of complexity. Jhin is a popular adc because he's so different and complex as compared to other adcs. It also helps that complexity allows for varying character types. We don't want a homogeneity of character types as that makes the game boring.

The issue with simplicity is that it's difficult to create significant diversity while keeping kits simple.

Maybe there are enough champions already.

Down voted for that weak and insecure last line

Im a new player and honestly, so far, I have noticed that a ton of champs are super complex and take a ton of brain cells to play. However, its all about balancing between appealing to new players like myself and old players who have experience and want a new challenge whenever they see a new champion being released. Not only that, but I think that in my own experience, there are ample amounts of remaining simple champions that are noob friendly and act as a gateway to more complex gameplay.

I see your point though. It is pretty tough trying to learn a new champ and feeling like you're trying to do a masters thesis.

And yet the simplest champions are meta. Top? Tanks. And noone is convincing me that tanks require more than 2 and half brain cells. Jungle dominated by xin, jax, kha zix. Mid Yasuo, TF, Cassio. Adcs are adcs. Supports are all types of Janna.

There's literally only 1 tank toplaner that is strong in SoloQ, and Sion is already getting nerfs on PBE.

In your games and in my games aswell tank are not meta on toplane.

just because noone plays them (because they are boring) doesnt mean they arent strong. Maokai is still beating 9/10 bruisers malphite beats 7/10 sion beats 10/10. If you want to have fun, sure yes tanks are not that played. If you want to win there is no reason to pick darius irelia jax etc etc over Sion Malphite Maokai. Same or more damage, more mobility better engage.

If tanks (that are not Sion) have less pickrate AND less winrate than bruisers while also being easier to play I think that's because bruisers are stronger.

Pro play is other story.

So, did the average IQ in the gaming community drop into double digits or something? When I joined League, I was playing ranked in gold maybe three weeks after I started playing. I didn't have trouble understanding things, and the kits are very straightforward and simple, so I knew how every champ worked (the ones that I had played against anyway, but I'd figure out the champs I hadn't seen within a few minutes of laning against them, so...).

Though I know thinking or putting in effort is taboo these days, so I'm just talking to myself here.

Alienating new players isn't as bad as you make it seem. With a dedicated player base made up of people that have been here to experience the shift into more complex gameplay, we are able to sustain a better competitive community.

I've been playing Swain and I love him. But I did feel he got so complicated newer players would never pick him up

Tbh not all of them are complex... and it is a 4 button game for the most part.

Zoe for example is super simple, you hit E and then Q.

Many champs do have so much weaving in their abilities which I agree should be toned down.

But most are hardly nidalee with more text in one ability than karthus entire kit, AND transforms. Jayce...Elise..
