Urf mode Ezreal

This is not about how strong you think Ezreal is relative to other champions in URF, this discussion is about the reason for picking either AD or AP Ezreal.

I have seen one person other than myself go AD Ezreal and every other one I have seen was AP.

I take Ezreal AD because: your q is now good for something other than cdr you can take a turret faster getting an auto attack in between spells, which you should be doing anyways, significantly increases your damage output your w does less, but you benefit more from the attackspeed and it has a shorter range and I believe a slower travel speed your e will do less damage but there is never a time where I use the e offensively and not use my q,w also Your ult does about the same amount of damage.

As far as I can tell AD Ezreal is at least as good AP Ezreal and certainly not worse, yet no one goes AD.

That my thoughts on it, if anyone has a good reason for choosing AP over AD let me know.

AP Ez scales very heavily into late game. Between his mobility, his burst and his AoE(to champions) he is a huge threat after a few items.

AD is limited to his Q. W is for helping allies take towers. E is for safety. R is for wavelcear and sniping. He doesn't build magic pen to make the most of 3/4 of his skills.

That being said:

  • Towers also take into account for AP for damage. AP can get to higher numbers. While your AA'ing for 250(125vs towers) every 2.5 seconds, I'm AAing for 600+(240 vs towers) every 1.5 seconds as well as my Lichbane out damaging your Triforce. AP Ez will take towers faster after a couple items. Have to remember that URF gives a strong AS buff that both builds benefit from. Only going further into AP's favor as he stacks his passive.
  • AP Ez uses all of his abilities for damage. AD is mostly limited to Q. Yes you can AA harder but I prefer to avoid getting that close to all the 2-3s gap closers.
  • Luden's Echo is OP as hell on URF. Sure AD can pick it up too, but he can't use it as effectively.
  • 80% CDR is much stronger on casters than it is on AA'ers. The AS buff doesn't really make up this difference outside of some champions who can really use it with their abilities. Vayne being an example, tumbling non stop and AA'ing the whole time. Self peel OP.
  • Late game champions are very strong on URF because of the gold generation, it's easy to be full build before 25min. AD Ez is actually one of the weaker scaling ADC's. Because of his Q not being able to really use AS or crit. Two stats that make an ADC scale. Sure he still has his AA's, but in terms of ADC scaling there are much better choices. All Ez has over them is that he can teleport, while most can only dash. Although I would label Lucian/Graves to be more mobile. A single AA can reset their mobility. While Ez's Q is reduced to .33s.
  • Biggest things that hold AP Ez back in normals is that his has no waveclear before 6 and he can be mana intensive. He needs items and cannot lane vs a champion that can easily waveclear. In URF he can spam Q to waveclear all game and mana is not an issue.

Only downside to AP Ez is that MR heavy tanks are becoming popular and taking over. This is where AD Ez can shine. But again, there are still stronger options. He still does well, but is weaker in almost every way in terms of mid game and late game power. Something that shines in URF.

I agree on most of what you say with a couple exception.

  1. As AD Ez I normal have around 500 AD by 18 or more if I got fed 3 BF Items plus Trinity

  2. I'm pretty sure AD Ez still takes turrets faster, AP does base + 40%AP Assuming around 100 base AD AP Ez would need 1000 AP to do the same amount of damage

  3. Given the amount AD, that I at least end up getting, the ult does about the same amount of damage, minus ludens

4.(kind of) Aside from that I give autos a lot more importance, I can miss a skill shot, its hard to miss an auto not as relevant in URF but it has still gotten me many kills I wouldn't have otherwise gotten

Thanks for the in-depth response though :)

Forgot about the 40% AP rule. Brings that 600ap to 170 damage to the turret. (600*0.4+100)*0.5 Lichbane will still be stronger, but AD can get a bit more AA's in that 2s. Close, but leans to AD.

You'd have to stack nothing but 80AD items if you wanted to hope to even come close to AP Ez's ult. Flat damage wise. You're not likely to build for it's penetration. Even then, Deathcap will leave you in the dust.

AA part still comes down to safety for me. Being in AA range is very risky in this mode unless you have some very strong mobility. Which Ez does have mobility, but as an ADC I don't consider it strong. Vayne, Lucian and Graves are stronger. While also having better overall damage.

I'd go AD partially because Tri Force grants 200% AD on hit. while lich bane is only 50% AP.

Also, despite how powerful some casters are in this game, I need someone who can push towers. Another Reason why I prefer AD.

Trinity does 200% BASE AD. That means at max, it'll give 200 extra damage. At 400 AP, which is two or three items, it'll do 200. You usually get about 800-900 at the end of the game. The major thing though is that Trinity Force's proc still has a CD that's longer than Ez's Q, which as AD Ez, most of your damage is the Q. Sure, you can pop off more now in URF, but if you're TriForce reliant, you're not going to do the same amount of damage. You have better sustain, but AP has waaaaaaay higher burst.

Also, AP Ez pushes pretty hard if you keep the LB proc up, plus AP does factor in to damage against turrets.

The primary thing that restricts AP Ezreal in normal play is how restrictive his W mana cost is. It makes it a bad skill in lane because he'll bleed his mana dry if he misses very many of them. However URF removes that obstacle. Since all 4 of his abilities scale with AP, AP Ez has extremely strong burst output.

But either one is viable, both in normals and in URF, just depends on what you like.

AD because URF favors AP champs. Ezreal is versatile enough to play either, but the team typically needs AD.

I also haven't lost an Ez URF game, only playing AD

AP Ez is stronger because his W actually does damage(it may give attack speed on AD but AP you get to abuse cooldowns and no mana), and his ulti procs Luden's, which is about the strongest thing ever. As Syndra I have easily been one-shot by an AP Ez ulti just from the little extra burst of Luden's.

I prefer AP so I actually have a full spell rotation, and to not be completely blocked out by creeps. W is only good in AD for helping your ALLIES get an AS boost unless you sacrifice your mobility spell to get in range. And your ult scales poorly.

AP ha a better Teamfight potential without sacrificing much push potential thanks to Lich Bane (which you should buy so "your q is now good for something other than cdr")

your w does less, but you benefit more from the attackspeed and it has a shorter range and I believe a slower travel speed

Making up for it with passing through creeps and having a huge AoE. If you aim it you can't really miss it without forcing a mobility spell. Its only 150 range less and not really that slow

your e will do less damage but there is never a time where I use the e offensively and not use my q,w also

Exactly, so you can cast EQW and have them all do damage, or only the Q and some autos do damage

Your ult does about the same amount of damage

HAHA, no. The ratio is 90% AP and 100% bonus AD. You stack a lot more AP than AD, especially with the need to build AS, Crit and Pen that it doesn't benefit from.

Mostly right now Lucian does everything AD Ez does but better, with the exception of the global snipes.
