The Support Item changes: Good or Bad?

Over all opinion:

Good!

While yes, the removal of Coin is a bit of a bummer, the over all changes to the support items ties in well with the changes that will be happening in the map thanks to the increase in ward capacity for supports, allowing support players to better compensate for their teams usually crappy ward scores.

Many people think that now that Targons can be procked by ranged champions that it will be abused, but they've overlooked the change that has been put in place that reduces the over all gold income gained by consecutively attacking minions, making it extremely disadvantageous to bring it into lane for anyone that isnt a support as you'd basically have little ways to be aggressive or even defensive, thus leading you to ultimately get easily punished in lane.

These changes will allow supports to feel more in-tune with the game as it will bring about a more aggressive play-style that Coin normally discouraged and bring more impact for supports especially in terms of map vision and control.

Not to mention that these changes will also allow more support champions to be brought into the meta, rather than always seeing Janna, Lulu and Zarya.

Coin was great in solo quee. Targons embrace gold generations becomes a problem late when everone insta clears a wave and they dont care about letting some minions to supp. With coin u were never at the mercy of your teammates being oblivious to your targons stacks. The coin stayed a reliable gold source even in late game.

Changes are dogshit. If youre behind, good luck trying to finish relic and spellthief's quest before min 15 mark. Its already hard to stack relic as a melee tank supp against heavy poke bot. (i even started to take coin on tanks like leona and naut)

And this AD/AP option....how many supports will use the AD version? Pyke and Senna? Assuming Senna will be AD supp. But even then it's pointless.

Since riot will also nerf xp on duo lanes, roaming supps will most likely become meta. Roaming while having relic wont give you wards fast enough.

The problem with your assumption on relic:

TWO Champions play bot, and BOTH can share the farm and heal each other. Even if there is an instilled decay of Trinket Gold, the HEAL will still proc, and the amount each player will build against the penalty will be moot, until they are Tier 3 Quest. Then they can just outright farm.

That's why adcs used to take it. The heal was better than Doran's. Furthermore, it's now an AD item, so even if the relic proc is limited, they will STILL buy it as an overloaded AD item, and for more HP.

Proccing Relic Quests really isn't hard, and it follows generally the same rules as Top Ornn did with Nomad's: Farm and kill only what you need until Quest is done. Then farm away.

Yay another removal of creative duo laning... How many times support items got changed now because of someone trying something else with them? It's really getting boring..

The new Frostfang items don't do damage on tribute procs, which is a big hit to Bard, Zyra, Nami.

Personally, I wish the support items had 2 options. Tank + Utility Squishy + Damage

I want to have the option as playing a support to prioritize having more utility vs assassin matchups while going damage vs tank teamcomps.

Having an item that has something like CC lasts 10% longer would be amazing.

I hate Relic execute being melee only, and Spellthief having 2 extremely restricting mechanics. Its great that they are removed. AD versions of support items are ok, I guess it was just a bad loop before(we can't make ad supports because there is no sup item for them, we can't make ad support item because there are no ad supports) and now that we have 2nd ad support incoming, its time to deal with it. I will miss coin. It gave more gold than any other item(unless you were zoned hard from coins), and the manaregen was nice, but whatever T3 support item losing its gold gen passive for more stats is somewhat bad. It feels bad losing gold generation before full item build(which is quite rare for a support), and it also feels bad losing the decisive teamfight and thinking "perhaps we lost because I didn't have those bonus stats, I was too greedy and didn't upgrade the item". Coin/spellthief already were left at t2 until full build and relic was upgraded because it gave more hp(which was useful for relic users, unlike other supports) and more charges.

What support item changes are you talking about? There's nothing in the dev corner or the new page about item changes.

As a support main the changes are good till Tier 3.

Once we lose the gp5 we have no income at all. Relic in its current standing is literally shit tier. Unless they're gonna make it so we put it on an ally (Like item 3109 with NO COOLDOWN. So we can change change change when needed.) And they kill the minion and we get the gold.

You wont get any minions after 15 minutes, like it is now. Unless the execute on Tier 3 is literally 1500 hp. 1 shotting all minions except cannon and supers. Which... is stupid at that point everyone would buy it.

So Unless they make it so we dont have to upgrade past Tier 2, and we get to choose to keep Tier 2 and NOT have 1 extra ward, and have gpm instead. Then thats fine. But they wont cause they have no idea what Support or Top lane is :/ or how to remotely change those 2 roles :/

I think the changes are hinting riot wants to get more AD champs into support.

will wait to play them lol.

My opinion on the changes will depend on what the exact values are and what else Riot does. The more "free" gold supports get and the more gold they don't have spend on wards and upgrading the gold item, the more non-supports will start supporting. We already have a big problem of mages supporting instead of going mid and the changes have the potential to make things worse. On the other hand, the changes might allow the opportunity to buff actual supports so they aren't worthless like they are now.

I think part of the problem with support lately is they are trying too hard to have supports be equal in gold and power level with their team. That lack of gold was supposed to be a handicap for champions that otherwise functioned purely on their crowd control and/or healing.

Allowing nearly the same amount of gold generation (or in this case saving on a lot of gold from the support item being cheaper and thereby more efficient) brings solo laners into bot lane as supports and even gives regular supports enough gold to be building in such a way as to solo the enemy ADC.

I mean, hey if that's what people like, then fine. I'm not a bot laner anyways, used to support with healers, but now that's only when I get auto filled.

tbh the support changes for the upgrade sound good i just hope they don't lower the hp on item 3401 anymore due to the hybrid stat thing being introduced
