@Meddler, will season 7 see a return of Boot Enchantments?

As a LOL player i loved building enchants on my boots like Furor, Alacrity or Distortion. The subtle power these gave me (especially Furor to me on ADC's), made it feel like my boots had the power of a full item and gave them more flavor. While i get that their power was somewhat invisible and kinda skerwered the balance somewhat becuase most of the time people went and built the strongest one available, they were super fun and added a little bit of spice to an otherwise bland purchase which are boots.

So i'd like to know if there's a possibility of Enchants returning in different forms to spice up Boot combinations? Eagerly awaiting a reply.

EDIT: BUMP for visibility

EDIT 2: Still waiting on that reply Meddler.

If we're talking preseason changes, I'd say why even have boots at all? Sure, the mobility they provide is necessary, but the items themselves... not so much. Riot has struggled for years to give boots at least some form of gameplay, including with enchantments, but they inevitably end up being items you mostly just buy and forget about for the rest of the game. In the worst case, one variation dominates and it distorts balance and design at large due to the associated stats (e.g. Alacrity incurring the removal of enchantments, and Mercury Treads being in part responsible for knockup creep). The simpler solution might just be to give every champion a growth stat to their movement speed, which would allow everyone to move across the map faster as they level up, without incurring arms races (legs races?) around boots and the rotational advantage they give. Whichever interesting effects are worth keeping, e.g. Boots of Mobility's roaming speed, could be moved onto items, perhaps even new items entirely (Furor is basically another version of Phage's passive, for example).

Honestly I thought the boot enchants were in a good place. Captain was niche for Supp/Jg/Top/some minion using mids. Distortion was great on play-makers. Alacrity was general purpose and getting it early could help in some gap-closing dependent matchups. Furor felt amazing to use on chasing/kiting champs(it actually had like 70% winrate on Vayne lol). Riot's main point was that movespeed scaled up into late-game too much, but skill shot speed did not scale, so it was unfair to champs like Xerath who realistically should be pretty good in late-game based on his kit. Idk I don't agree with it, but that's what they said and it makes sense. Even though they added cloud drake which give +75 movespeed to dodge skill shots... If they brought back enchants it would probably not have movespeed bonuses attached.

I feel like part of the problem was Alacrity almost became a necessity to build compared to the other buffs cause of the flat MS it gave. If they rework that enchantment to something different and brought the other ones back, I think it'd be fine.

I just liked getting 40% CDR on Flash and Teleport with Lucidity Boots, Distortion, and that Resolve mastery. 180 second CD Flash.

I just want to unnerf boots of swiftness, or add a passive that let's you walk through minions with them.

Boot enchantments added too much movement speed to the game

If tier 3 boots did not grant additional movement speed and provided a buff to existing tier 2 boots.

Mobility creep was a problem, hence a lot of mobility nerfs during preseason early parts of the season.

I don't really miss them because I like the idea of selling shoes for super mega 6 item builds possibly using Luden's Echo or Triforce to keep to keep mobility loss not too harsh.

Can we just give everybody a 45 point boost to base move speed and delete boots?

one way that comes to mind is to take the unique effects of item 3111 item 3158 item 3047 item 3009 and turn those into enchantments for all the boots to mix and match, Don't know what sort of balance issues this would bring, its just something off the top of my head.

How about if boots had 2 upgrade levels. 1 which is utility based (tencacity, extra MS, AA reduction, ...) and one that is based on stats (armor, magic resist, magic pen, attack speed, ...) You could make more combinations and pick up tenacity with armor etc.

Just a thought, would require some balancing and risks an abuse like ADCs getting tenacity too easily, but I think it could be fixed if there were another option that is supposed to be more appealing for carries.

Alacrity was a must have for all the champions that are getting kited like Voli, Trynda, Garen and so on. Most other characters can afford to get 6th damage item lategame (Trinity, crit or something with MS for the mages like Ludens )
