I was curious what AP mage champions benefit off hybrid pen or is Magic pen marks strictly better now.
AP Mages benefit a lot more from straight magic penetration, what with being so ability reliant you're actually investing in a lot of AP.
Especially with how plentiful MR is this season.
Hybrid penetrations tend to be better on champions that deal a mixture of physical/magical/auto-attack/ability damage as their net output.
Which tends to be more fighters, tanks, and supports: the latter 2 because not scaling any of their damage makes their AA's a big portion of their overall damage, where fighters like Udyr, Mundo, Shyvana, Warwick, Nasus, and several others tend to do a ton of mixed damage through their kits and general fighter itemization.
As for the math on armor and MR:
100 resistances results in 50% damage reduction, 50% damage taken, or 1/2 damage taken.
200 resistances results in 66.67% damage reduction, 33% damage taken, or 1/3 damage taken.
300 resistances results in 75% damage reduction, 25% damage taken, or 1/4 damage taken.
400 resistances results in 80% damage reduction, 20% damage taken, or 1/5 damage taken.
Really easy to remember if you go by fractions.
The formula for %damage reduction is MR/(100+MR)
The formula for %damage taken is 100/(100+MR)
