Viktor's Item Build
So far every build I've seen for vik on any website does not include zhonya's? I thought zhonya was core on mages so is there any specific reason vik opts out of it?

I actually used to think zhonyas was core on every single Mage. Then I started to realize that it's actually a really bad item without the passive. If you play right most of the time you never actually need the active and you can get wayyyy more damage or defensive stats from almost any other item. For instance I like to purchase frozen heart when I'm mid over a zhonyas 9/10 times as I find it much more useful to win.
Rylai's synergizes too well with him right now and he has less item slots than other mages, so unless you are specifically facing zed or talon or something I wouldn't bother.
Rylais used to be situational on him. though I would always buy it. zhonyas on viktor only if they have an ad assassin. viktor has no mobility so chances are he will still die even if he uses it. i guess you could go for it but am not a fan of zhonyas on someone that doesn't have a wumbo combo or an escape
I only get the zhonyas on him if there is heavy ad
Zhonya's isn't core on Viktor like it is on some other mages. You generally only get it on him if you need the active to deal with a champ like 
who can kill you with telegraphed burst damage.
