"I'm done with League of Legends"

I was rewatching Dunkey's vids, and got to the then-controversial "I'm done with League of Legends" video, posted by dunkey about 2 years ago. Look at the complaints, at 1:58, 3:20, and his general view on League. Ignore the PB&M parts.

Why League Sucks (1:58): -Deathtimers are too short -Bounty system punishes getting fed -Turrets are annoying (implied that they get in the way, based on context) -Ranked system doesn't work at all

"..the match streches to the 40-50 minutes mark, and nobody cares at that point; the match has just gone on for way too long. Every time" "So I'm not enjoying the game. No one I'm playing with is enjoying the game... league has lost its magic for me"

These are all things (outside of a bad ranked system) that the Boards have been asking for a while, but they're the reasons that Dunkey disliked the game.

I really don't think people are ever going to stop hating and complaining about the game. Everyone wants the game to suit what they want, not what everyone else wants. Whenever people try to speak for others, it's often just a way to try and make their point seem more valid.

People want the game to be tailored to them specifically. Riot tries to cater to everyone, but can't. Everyone hates and complains about the game because it isn't centered around them.

You play bruisers right now, you're going to hate this game state. You'd love it a lot more if it were 2 years ago. You play supports right now, and you're going to be much more happier than the supports in ye olde days.

Even when the conditions are generally good for whatever class or set of champions people like, they still find reason to complain, because the game isn't fully molded to their ideal of what the game should be.

Videogames encourage people to be selfish assholes looking to have fun, often without consideration for the randoms they get paired with. League and other multiplayer games always try to cater to everyone's complaints , and fail.

Even if Riot does what the Boards are asking them to do, no matter how radical the change, you will still have a ton of complaints.

But you really shouldn't blame Riot or accuse them of being some malignant force trying to oust you and your champs. They're trying their best, and they can hear your complaints. They just can't satisfy everyone or change the game to be 100% based around you and your views.

Video is here, but I can't place it as a discussion link or have it be embedded due to temporary Board issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjzgbZL12VI&list=PLMBTl5yXyrGQTBDqpquLgLpgmuall8yUI

Here are some of the facts on the matter. Riot can never please everybody. If games are short, people will flood the Boards demanding for longer games. If games are long, people will flood the Boards asking for shorter games. If snowballing is rampant, people are going to ask for anti snowballing mechanics. If you can't snowball, people are going to complain that this game is too harsh on solo players.

Here is another fact on the matter. Nobody who goes on Gameplay is entirely happy with the state of the game. People will always flood gameplay with everything they hate.

The Gameplay board is a meme at this point. Even thinking for a moment that we should take this Board seriously at this point is either much too ignorant or much too biased.

#Dunkey lost all the credability when he said Deathtimers are to short Even back then they were to long

That sentence alone proofs that he has no FKING idea about game balance

He could say. You cant capitalize on the enemy team after you kill them for example because you have to back yourself ETC.. ETC That would be fine statement And that can be solved with courrier minions and what not. But noooooooo dEaThTImeRs ArE tO sHoRt

You are gonna be happier if you play supports XD? No I WONT its still the most boring role in game. Sure redemption is cute, everyone having trinket is cute

Take leona for example

Do you know what leona does in a 10 minute of a challenger game? She tries to E 2 times in that span of time. And procs relic twice every 3 minutes

Do you think that is fun and lots of interaction. If you told a new player that is what support looks like THEY WOULDNT FKING TOUCH THAT ROLE

I can play supports with 1 FKING HAND and the other support ll struggle out impacting me to a noticable extent because the skill expression in support role is not as high

While if I would to play midlane with 1 fking hand we would lose in 20 minutes

I ll make a big thread In which I SOLVE EVERY fking issue boards has in 1 FKING THREAD

Dont get me wrong I like dunkey, he still plays league, he was a bit salty because Riot never asked him out on events despite promoting their game for years

You can kinda understand that from riot standpoint because dunkey doesnt exlusively promote just league

People don't like games stretching out to 50 minutes, because we liked the average of 35 minutes.

Death timers weren't really too short, he just played top and dealt with old TP pre-nerf.

The bounty system is better now because it's dividing the gold among the team but should only divide it among those involved.

I think by "turrets are annoying" he meant how they block you when pathing, a-clicking, and trying to dive you sometimes click them because the person is hiding behind them.

Don't forget, this was also season 5, the season where the tank meta was a thing, meaning towers didn't take as much damage and games were slower in favor of tanks in long teamfights. This is an ideal situation, minus the tank meta part.

I'm not sure how Dunkey represents a majority of league players.

PowerSlave9931/11/2018, 1:31:23 PM6 votes

I would still play league if it was actually balanced and if Riot actually listened to what majority of community wants. Doing nonsense buffs and nerfs is just showing how not interested they are or too stupid.

  • Still waiting for turret buffs or changes as they are absolutely weak.
  • Still waiting for Orn, Tristana and some other champs nerfs.
  • Still waiting for more items, for return of some good old items and trying to change ''diversity'' so that every champ can build whatever he wants. ''Oh I'm playing Xin i would go AP for more heals but then i lose all damage!'' one of the examples.
  • Still waiting for rune nerfs and major changes.
  • Still waiting for making that bot doesn't decide which team will win! I'm sick of seeing that my bot is losing. Then why am I even playing that match? I should just instant FF or leave. There's no purpose in playing when I know that I will in 98% lose the game because of that. Why waste time? For fun? For legendary ''comeback''?

Let's just face it. Riot wants money. They already have shit load of money but apparently they need more so that they can become even bigger. They know that people are going to leave League. They do not care about it 'cause they know that more people will come and scale will turn into their favor. People are going < new people come = more money.

Making the game so so easier because some 12 old kid can't learn mechanics is just to make more kids play this game. More money for them.

The game that I once loved has turned into monstrous pile of rubber.

I'm currently playing Wow and dota2. Sorry but this just ain't the game for me anymore. I can't handle this anymore. To see how the game is going down and down but all they care is money. $sport.

I mean, the community is made up of many different people with rather polarizing opinions. There will always be someone out there that's complaining about the state of the game, and that this place is often used as a place for people to talk badly about the game most of the time.

How they used reasoning to express certain opinions can be questionable to some extent and are rather "synonymous", and that's what makes Boards different from Reddit. Now I'm not saying Reddit isn't any "smarter", but they have a different bias and aren't as synonymous because there are way more people on Reddit than on Boards. But what I've seen in Boards is that people who agree on one thing are often also the same people who begged Riot to revert something they have been asking for.

tl;dr: another "all complaints are shit, riot not listening is a meme" thread. Downvote and move on.

Who cared about Dunkey.

Oxyrotten1/12/2018, 4:20:37 AM4 votes

Why would anyone listen to dunkey anyway? Isn't he just a comedian?

[sg-lux-2] I liked being a ward bot. At least then I could force my team to have good vision control.

Quality Post, thumbs up.

Listen if riot made smart decisions about things then there wouldn't be so many people who are unhappy. Damage is too high. You can't have skill and chance in a game together and expect good outcomes. It's all a matter of who hits who first right now. Second things like the removal of sightstone is what bothers people. It's not the fact that they did it it's the way they do it. They could just make a special trinket upgrade for supports but they chose the other route. Riot needs to fix x champion so instead they change w y and z to fix it. They do everything ass backwards because it's not what the community wanted. They will do whatever it takes to not listen to us.

HalcyonDweller1/11/2018, 7:50:27 PM2 votes

That's a super interesting point, I hadn't thought about that video in a long time and it's interesting to see that Dunkey's complaints perfectly mirror and oppose the common complaints on the boards.

LordGeovanni1/12/2018, 1:45:04 AM2 votes

Um no support may have better item actives now but they lost their ap scaling in most cases only to be bullied out by mid lane mages comming in the support role and despite how pitiful their sheilds and heals and how bad they feel to use are if it saves an adc once they get nerfed for it. You can blame riot when they make changes that no one asked for at all like Sejuani's rework and what they did to galio. And riot seems to always change things that have a much smaller amount of people but they make the same post over and over again over a larger number of people making posts complaining on boards but they dont post 3 times in 1 day and 12 times in a weak on the exact same problem.

While it can be argued whether it is better for the game to be long or short, snowball-y or not, it cannot be argued that choice and depth of gameplay is better. In the evaluation of the changes made in the game, I always ask "does this open up more choices?" and "does this enhance the depth of the game?". Unfortunately, most of the changes have me answering "no, this actually limits choices" or "no, this actually makes the game more shallow".

Riot should balance only around high level play.
