In situations where my team is flaming and there's no way to pull it back you can try to get them to surrender or just practice things. Some games are unwinnable and when that happens I'll practice csing or different combos until the game ends.

You can deal with the fact that the game is already over and make the rest of the time useful or you can babyrage about wasted time and get reported for flaming. You make sure to report them and move on, then forget about the game in the next champ select.

I guess technically opening mid isn't too bad an idea either. Practicing while doing that makes sense.

But isn't that the point of moving on? If you value your time you shouldn't dwell on this kind of thing for even a second. You should, in fact, try to get some enjoyment out of those 30-60 minutes.

If you really value your time, then developing a positive perspective on these situations is the best you can do.

Fair enough.

Nonetheless, it is frustrating. That 30-60 minute game might have been all I got that day, or even week when I'm really busy. Tbh, I shouldn't even bother playing this game anymore, but I do because I have many (irl) friends that play it.

Oftentimes it's because the enemy team is bad or is toying with you.

I mean yeah, you have a chance when everyone reaches full build, but if you haven't evem touched their second towers yet and you don't have any towers standing, there's not really much chance you can win you know?

We somehow still managed to win.

This was at a time where i legitimately belonged into Silver.

Yeah obviously in game all we can do is shut up, take ALLLL the assault, and report them afterwards (in OPs specific situation he has two trolls, meaning he cant even surrender, A FEATURE CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR COUNTERING TROLLS!!!!) but you'd think a problem so common to league all these years would have better systems in place than "deal until you get out of game"

Its hands down the most frustrating thing about league and has been since it's creation, thats all. I dont even think he wanted a literal solution, probably just wanted folks to be like "been there know that feel bro" but posting the very obvious answer was kind of unnecessary. (but at least you werent rude about it I guess.)

No that's not what everyone else does. It's easy for someone on the outside of a situation to say they would behave rationally in the same context but that's complete bullshit.

The same way people say "I'd do this or that if such and such situation happened" If you've never been in that situation then you don't know what you would do, and OP is right, this situation is dumb thanks to riot, you literally can't say anything to anyone without getting reported and banned.

You should probably join in the bm circlejerk because when Teemo and Jhin see you, an upstanding player, get so frustrated that you are forced to sink to their level they will promptly apologize, carry you for the win and each gift you the skin of your choice!

Seriously though? You take the high road like an adult and ignore the trolls and assholes because sinking to their level will accomplish nothing except potentially get you in trouble. You mute them and report them post game and move on, remember the odds of you getting a troll is the same as going against a troll.

You can't do jck to the trolls or anything to the game.

You can change your perspective about the situation, but it won't change the outcome or the way things are.

Sinking to their level does nothing except potentially get you in trouble (because Riot doesn't let you retaliate)

Muting them plugs your ears to the problem, but doesn't actually solve anything

Obviously, doing nothing does nothing.

The odds of you getting a troll are less than the opponent getting a troll (you get paired w/ 4 unknowns vs the enemy team of 5 unknowns)

Sometimes the team aspect of the game gets frustrating.

You get bad teammates, there's really nothing you can do about it.

Take it because that is all that you can do. You are now a passive participant in the abuse from all other players in league. Riot has made you a victim with no ability to fight back. Oh yeah, but you can report them and hope that something happens that prevents them from ruining other people's games but we all know how that goes...

TBH as cynical as it is, with how easy it is to have a 2nd account loaded and ready to play there's plenty of players that will intentionally ruin games and get away with it for a really long time, so its easy to feel reporting it useless. As long as at least 1 person does it in every one of those games the accounts will eventually be banned. It really should be a bit more rapid though, an hour of toxic chat/gameplay being exposed to a team full of people at the expense of 1 or 2 is pretty bad.

All the people fighting for the justice of Riot seem to disagree. I agree with you completely but the sentiment from most of the people on this board who don't even play this game believe everything is going according to plan.

I wouldn't say never, but yeah if you get enjoyment from trolling you'll try to figure out a way to do it thats hard to detect like fighting most of the game then inting or passive aggressively talking about a players every mistake badgering them but not using any language thats bannable. Hell they're slow to ban the people who just take mobis + zeals to feed so doing something you can disguise as honest play allows you to troll still.

I personally know people who've reformed a bit after a ban because their issue isn't intentionally losing game by griefing/trolling. Their issue is toxic chat from flaring emotions.

I am one of those accounts that went off the rails in chat a few times, and this is a new account i've worked at not doing so.

But THAT is the point, those trolls that start and instigate shit in game or in chat see little if any consequences, while as anyone saying "hey fuck off you're the one feeding, shut the fuck up" BAM! Punished. It's pretty fucked up that the gy defending himself gets punished faster/more severely than the guy who was legitimately the problem.

and I know some folks reform after bans but i just mean in a game by game case. If a team mate decides to start trolling in a game, they will not stop and suddenly play that game well. They might disguise their trolling but they arent going to go "huh maybe I should stop, we could win this" cause if they cared they wouldnt be trolling in the first place is all. It's just frustrating I guess that the most we can do is vent in a forum like this and hope one day Riot has a better bans system in place. I'm sure they are working on something it's just tedious until then.

sorry this got way longer than i meant to. In short I agree in the long term trolls can reform, but no troll in the middle of a game he is trolling just stops and starts playing well. (thats usually why if someone starts it's best to use the only teamwork 4 people can do and FF, so you can report them and hopefully get into a better game)

When this happens, your brain releases dopamine and associates winning with spending money and you keep playing. The more you play, the more you begin to lose so in order to reactive those receptors, you spend money. Then you win a bit more but then you start losing. It's a vicious cycle to keep the average person at a lower elo so they spend money.

This is an actual algorithm for generating money. It's in every game. Magic the Gathering was the first game to do this with their packs to create an addictive gambling effect. World of Warcraft with the random item drops. Same thing. Now everyone does it. Hearthstone. Same problem. League of Legends same thing.

Try playing 25 games within two days and see what happens.

If you play too much for free then you get punished for it if you're not spending money.

When people lose, they gotta keep playing to make up for their losses but when they keep losing they want to feel better so they spend again.

It's a psychological trap. The shitty thing about online gaming.

You laugh at them for being idiots and you try to have as much fun with the game as you can. Then you report them when the game is done and move on with your life. Regardless of what you do in life there will always be people who try to drag you down into the muck. It's up to you whether you let them or if you continue to have fun in spite of them. You can't control people's actions but you can control your reaction.

Try to stay positive and encouraging during the game to see if that'll help turn the team around. When someone gets a clean kill or a team fight ends in your favor, say NJ and specifically call out what was good if you feel there's something that was great but don't take sides. Just complement good plays. Coddle your teammates a little bit when they're going at each other's throats and see if that turns them around.

If they don't turn around, then just stay silent, play through the rest of the game, report them and move on.

My last ranked game had a taliyah who got support, said in chat "i cant play support can i mid" so i swapped with her ( i was mid). Our jungler IMMEDIATELY starts flaming her for not knowing how to play support, telling her she was shit, etc etc. Taliyah started flaming in reverse, and honestly it was getting worse and worse and i didnt want to lose so close to my promos so i told taliyah not to engage with the jungler, but he kept it up. In game, jungler never really talked much, and was quite useful. I made sure to comfort and congrajulate my team after i got caught under turret by 3 people and ashe died to a failed invade. Taliyah started mildly flaming in the middle of the game saying "gg omg we're going to lose" and i just went "taliyah please shut up we dont need your negativity right now, we can win".

And thank jesus and allah, she listened to me (rare for league players), and we proceeded to stomp the game.

Its like supports need to heal people mentally now. Holy fuck that game was exhausting

You can type. The problem is taking a deep breath and typing calmly. Ask the jungler and Jhin to work together and have a little patience. Ask Teemo to return to support his ADC. Try to call for teamwork, suggest either a 1-3-1 push or 4-1 split to take a few towers. Put wards in key locations and call for Dragon/Herald/Baron kills or to try denying enemy team. Suggest items that may work better, ask them to work with team and be more careful....

There is PLENTY you can type that's not "OMG, WTF you died again! Uninstall the game loser!"

You just mute and ignore them and suffer in a game that isnt winnable because a teams only as strong as its weakest link and 2 trolls basically means its a 3v5. So you sit there while every FF fails and they feed their asses off WANTING to curse them out, but knowing YOU will be punished way worse. Trust.

First, you are missing the point. I never promised this would reverse the downward spiral. I pointed out plenty that could be typed. You assume they are trolling and not simply tilted from a horrible day as well as a bad start to a game. With encouragement and some hard play, you could rally your team and possibly put one of the enemy players on tilt. Quite frankly, your attitude is as much trash as trolls.

That's what I did at first.

He probably would've calmed down if the Teemo support (of all things) calling him out for playing Jhin mid, triggering him and making him int. At this point, everyone else was trying to calm Jhin down, and I told Teemo to shut up.

He called Jhin a babyback bitch, which triggered him even further.

After that, everything just spiraled.

Basically, babyrage.

But yeah, generally, being nice won't solve problems. Still try it, but, if the person is getting tilted or annoyed to the point where they're venting in chat or inting/ragequitting, it will have little effect

The basic sentiment I see in response to posts like this from the noble League community in regard to getting flamed and bullied is, "Just behave like a perfect example of a rational and emotionally stable human being" ..... so basically do what (arguably) not one single person does in real life.
