A suggestion to Riot regarding unlocking champions
Everybody gets angry over the blue essence system, it seems. And that's only going to increase as more and more champions are released, jacking up the BE needed to unlock them all year by year. I can't speak to this personally, I've had all the champs unlocked for a long time so I have zero experience with how slow/fast/appropriate the unlock rate is right now. But I do know it's only going to get worse as more champions show up in the game.
So why not adjust the champions so that the amount of blue essence needed in total becomes a static amount?
Take all the champions from the first four tier prices and drop them by one tier. 4800 champs become 3150, 3150 become 1350, and 1350 become 450. Then make all the 450 champs free on every account. Heck, unlock them one per level if you level if you like, there's only 14 right now anyway, and once you get above 30 you can have the rest of them unlock all together at level 30 or something.
Then, take the older half of the 6300 champions and reduce their price to 4800. Now the overall amount of BE needed is reduced, which is the main point of contention over the current system.
Next, each time you release a new champion, you need to shift the current roster to accommodate. So you release a new champion under the 7800 price tag, the oldest 6300 champ drops to 4800, and so on down the line, with the oldest 450 champion becoming free. You could even leave the champions up in the shop with "unlocks at level X for free" warnings on them, in case some Singed/Nunu/Annie main makes a new account and doesn't want to wait until level X.
Now you have a static amount of blue essence to calculate with, a number that won't change regardless of the number of champions you release, beyond the bonus 1500 cost on the first week. You'll know exactly how much BE players need to build their rosters, while also grabbing the occasional rune page and player icon that doesn't cost RP, and you'll be able to work around exactly how long you think that should take in terms of not spending a dime. Players themselves get a hefty starting roster for new accounts, and since the first 14 champions really cover the spectrum of roles, they'll have more opportunity to find the playstyle that works for them. Heck, I would even encourage you guys to set up short videos on these free champions with a quick rundown of how they play and what roles they're suited to. Little one-minute Youtube videos that you link the player to on champion unlock.
