Janna Runes

Just wanted to get some feedback from other Janna mains, and see other possible rune paths.

Currently, I go Sorcery + Inspiration, taking Summon Aery, Manaflow Band, Celerity, Scorch, then getting Cosmic Insight and Future's Market. Originally, I would take Gathering Storm instead of Scorch, but seeing how Gathering Storm is more late game, and my average game last 25-30 minutes, I feel that Scorch is better for the early lane power. I also used to go Resolve instead of Inspiration, picking up Revitalize and Font Of Life, but those Runes are borderline useless, and honestly not worth taking, in my opinion. When I first went over to Inspiration, I would take Magical Footwear instead of Future's Market, but switched when I realized how useless Magical Footwear is. With Footwear, I had to wait till 10 minutes to get boots, which was way to long to wait, and then I still had to pay to upgrade them. With Future's Market, it only grows as the game continues, making it the obviously better choice, and has helped me finished my support items a lot quicker.

Also, am I the only one that still max's E first? I've tried maxing W first, and it's great for the poke and movement speed, but then my shield only takes maybe one auto before it pops. I just feel that her shield is just the best way to go. I still put one more point in W at level 4 just for a little extra damage.

I'm no Janna main, unfortunately, but I'll try to help you out a bit.

Your runes are fine, although I want to suggest you consider Resolve secondary as well. Font of Life and whatever rune it was that increases heals and shields are both useful on any support. Future's market is fine, and is rather helpful on a support due to your already cheap item costs meaning you get so many more items than others.

However, while Market is very nice, don't underestimate Magical Footwear. Market is useless once you're full build, while Footwear remains useful late-game. Yes, it takes 10 minutes, but if you're sure it's going to come down to late-game, or if you're pretty sure you're going to stomp lane anyways, go with Footwear instead (remember, the timer reduces by 30s for every kill and/or assist you get, so you can potentially get it by 6-8 minutes in, depending on the lane). The same applies to Scorch versus Gathering Storm - Scorch is good for early lane domination (IF you're hitting enough abilities, that is), but it becomes irrelevant past the 35-40 minute mark, while Gathering Storm starts to take over before then anyways.

Manaflow band also isn't always the best, although it's a good default rune for that row. If you see a Katarina or Brand or Zyra or something, it's a good idea to go with Nullifying Orb instead.

Aery is obviously your best keystone, don't take anything else if you're not in ARAM (at which point you go Comet).

Celerity is also going to be your best rune in that row, unless you're in URF, in which case Transcendence takes over if you're going anything that has CDR at all.

Usually, I do also start and max EQW, because you just need your E maxed for it to have a non-insane cooldown. Sometimes I'll start Q first, though, if either you or they have a really strong level 1 presence - you for the easier kill, them to stop their engage - Or if I'm expecting their jungler to come bot right after their buff.

Hope I helped :3

I like your rune set up, I'm not 100% positive, but I think Absolute Focus provides better overall results for characters like Janna who tend to not take very much damage in lane. I'm not certain about that provided Janna's passive ability, Celerity might actually come out to be better due to that.

According to my math at level 1 Absolute Focus provides you with roughly .3 AP more. That's obviously negligable, but at full build assuming you run Mobility Boots as most supports do these days the end game math comes out to as follows: about 13.5AP for Celerity while mobility boots are active vs 40AP above 70%hp for Absolute Focus at lvl 18.

More AP means bigger shields, more movement speed, bigger slows, more healing from ult, and of course more damage on damaging abilities.

I actually prefer the resolve tree on most supports as far as a secondary tree goes unless they directly benefit from something out of another tree quite heavily. I think Revitalize is extremely underrated, the increase to heals and shields is minor, but an additional 5% on your shields might be just enough to prevent an ignite tick from killing the person you're shielding.

I'm a very aggressive support personally, so Janna wouldn't really be my flare. The setup I run on the champions I play, with similar rune desires, those champions being Nami Morgana Karma Rakan. Is typically Aery, Manaflow/Nimbus, Absolute Focus/Celerity, Scorch paired with the resolve tree running a mix of Bone plating, second wind, revitalize.

I pick my resolve runes for the lane I'm playing against. Bone plating/second wind is good against all in lanes, revitalize with second wind lets you out sustain lanes you'll go even in.
