When a support makes a post, people try to tell them how to support

doiminat0r3600··33 votes·2,384 views

But when other roles do it, they don't get a complete guide on the do's and don'ts of playing any of their champions.

Ive noticed this on a few support threads where people comment saying "Let me tell you that <insert champion here> is the best in bot lane. They have <insert abilities here> and they are soooooo good you should totally play them"

From what I've seen, a lot of threads discussing supports are made by people who aren't actually support mains, but rather those either considering trying support or those complaining about being stuck with support.

That said, i think sometimes supports can be like the shy nerd in school. We hardly say anything, but when you hit that one topic we're really passionate about, it's hard to get us to shut up about it.

This accurately describes me as a support main.

My people..... I am but another sheep to the flock lol

Problem is, people think support is the easiest role in the game, and so they pretty much just say whatever comes to mind unfortunately.... no matter what kind of experience they have or have not had with the champion or role.

Big reason I stray from saying I am a specific champion main.... i get much less "advice" when I just ask the adc which support they want, because im a support main that can play every support, so take your pick.

Anyways, just thought id say SUP to my supp peeps. Keep being awesome and carrying the game.

Ha, support's definitely not the easiest role. Probably ADC gets that glory.

There is no such thing as easiest role. Each one has pros and cons.

Disagree with half that statement.

ADC might got easy mechanics, but positioning in the league of burst isn't that easy.

ADC seems easy until you realize the whole enemy team tries its hardest every single fight to kill you; the difficulty with it is watching your positioning and staying alive so you can actually do your job

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

You are good at ADC if you are generally good at the game is how I see it. If your farming and positioning are already good then ADC is indeed much easier since (let's be honest) each ADC plays pretty close to the same and are fairly straightforward (you right click and do damage).

Arkatra1 votes

I agree. as a person who played every role (yes, support included (600+ games)) ADC is one of the most needed clear knowledge of every champion's kit, combo and dmg-output. (Or experience from the matches againts them). Midlaner's does require the knowledge aswell, but midlane's champion are more forgiven in my opinion. (Mainly if we see how few assassin is balanced, kappa)

Well, you are farming with high AD and attack speed, kiting as ranged, and don't have to hit as many skillshots (generally, there are exceptions). Each role and champion has their own things to work on.

Friend who does not play ADC said this to me: Him: Can i ADC this game? Me: Sure, i was support (Thresh) main once, which adc you're gonna play? Him: joke, i'd never play ADC. hehe xd Me: sad - wanted to do a thresh game for the old times - Well, i go ADC as usual then. Him: ADC is easy anyway. Me: Hmm? Him: Like really, all you do is right clicking 35-40 mins long. Me: don't even start it, man )))) Him: Nah, but really. That's all what you do. Besides you have to constant farm. Avoid to get poked down while farming, and poke the enemy aswell. Oh, and the whole enemy want to kill you xD Fak ADC, man. Me: Yea, fak it, but someone has to do it. Him: That's why you're with me, so i not need to do that.

This was a real conversation with him on TS, when i bothered him with that i has played almost all lane for long, just only top rarely and now want to learn ADC totally, and why he wouldn't play ADC, even if he's playing since s2.

I think support has the potential to be one of the easiest, but also one of the hardest. My job is easy when I have an ezreal whom I synergize with, but hard when I have say a varus that isn't on the same page as me. It can be hard if they have a fed rengar, but easy if their strongest is a rek sai. I think more than most roles its ease is situational. Obviously everything in League is too situational to let theory crafting be effective, but most roles have a sort of general rule of thumb for when ahead, behind, etc. Support's biggest rule of thumb is don't let your adc die. Of course they do other roles like control vision, but in the moment of a team fight not letting your adc die #1, but must be achieved very different ways depending on team comps, who you are, who's ahead on each team. No role is definitively the easiest or hardest though.

That's because everyone assumes that support mains are lying because nobody has actually ever met one outside of the boards.

doiminat0r36005 votes

There are support mains everywhere. You can tell by the support being level 5+ with their champion and being able to play them well while warding, peeling, tanking correct shots, among other things.

I had a support main who played blitz, who he did not main, he didn't hook very often but when he did it was effective. I got so fed that game that I almost got a penta as Jinx, fucking hemmer rockets. Anyways, if you are a support main, I salute you.

For a role that's so in demand, there sure a lot of experts.

but this is the problem with league overall. I support 95% of the time. if you don't support that much, then I'm just going to guess you don't have shit to tell me. You know why I don't tell mechanics what to do? Because I don't work on cars.

Çhåryzård5 votes

As a support main, if you have never touched the support role or any of the champions I play, don't tell me how to play them.

I'm not gonna tell a Cait main how to Cait, or a jungler how to jungle since I don't jg myself.

I had a person the other day try to lecture me on Sona when they have 0 games as Sona and I've played her for a very long time.

This goes for anyone. If you haven't played the role, or you haven't played the champ, you have no room to lecture someone who mains that. Actually play that role/champion to get an idea of what they are actually like before trying to argue with a person who mains it because you will lose.

This speaks to me deeply, as I am a level 7 thresh, and level 5 blitz. I have people telling me where to ward, when to hook, to play more aggressive, more passive, etcetera... Frankly I know how to play my champ, and I'm sure that you know how to play yours.. so just focus on the game. And I know most of the people seeing this are probably support mains so you also feel the same way (if it happens to you) Let me know if this also happens to you guys

Yea I'll have adc's do this, and most of the time they suck at who they are playing too.

I was playing Naut support a while ago and supporting an mf. The botlane I was facing was a Lucian and I forget the support. Mf kept getting hit by shit and I wasn't engaging much because I know how dangerous Lucian can be and this MF wasn't the brightest. She kept getting low and I didn't want to engage and have her die.

Then she starts yelling at me to do something, I try engaging for her and of course she almost dies, then she starts complaining to me about how I suck and I'm like "I haven't been engaging because they have a lot of damage and you're low".

I've had some great adcs who are nice but I've found that the ones who complain and try to tell you what to do generally suck lol. I have my job covered, don't worry about me, just focus on the cs and if there's an opportunity I'll try to land some cc.

Well, if your adc feels that you should go aggressive, you might want to (depending how much you trust their judgement, and besides, your own judgement might agree). But I mean, when I play ADC I don't exactly jump into 1v2's, unless I'm being bad.

It's niche. You aren't really accomplishing anything by stacking that many slows, and both items are already sub-par on her. If you're not buying a mana regen item beforehand, you're definitely not doing it right.

Actually if you do it right, you are not actually stacking the slows. Gauntlets give a good amount of armor and mana as well as CDR, and honestly I am spamming my abilities and with early mana regen or frozen gauntlets, i run out of mana at about the same time o.O

What I mean by you are not stacking the slows is: frost queens claim slows people from afar and helps to find anyone in the general area, often times letting you get close enough to Q and slow them with rylia's before the frost queen's claim slow wears off, which then lets you frozen gauntlet slow before the Rylia's slow wears off..... i find the gauntlet then comes up sooner than the Q just barely so you W and heal and shield and boom, another frozen gauntlet slow...... all in all starts to act similar to a weaker nasus/nunu slows, without the need to exaust and without the need to ulti to make sure they CANT get away.

"Let me tell you that <insert champion here> is the best in bot lane. They have <insert abilities here> and they are soooooo good you should totally play them"

I know that feel man. Friend of mine insists that Nunu support is "Amazing".

EDIT: Friend is jungle main, does not play nunu either.

Amasa Delano1 votes

Nunu support can be good. I don't know if I'd call it amazing, although I also have a friend who loves it.

Zach Sandwhich1 votes

He's honestly just bad by himself right now IMO. The only thing good about him is the snowball, because blood boil requires your team to do all the work, consume only applies on Monsters, Minions, Etc. to my knowledge so it seems kinda useless on a support. The ult is super gimmicky and requires either 1. The enemy to have zero wards in bushes and hope they walk into one when your charging your ult or 2. Hope the enemy team is braindead and has no clue what nunu ult does and just walks straight into it.

Darfaller1 votes

I saw an idea for a nunu rework that play off his lore and it sounded awesome. Pretty much nunu could tame jg camps and use them in fights.

Zach Sandwhich1 votes

I think I saw something like that, but it might've been for Udyr. Idk but I think the whole concept of taming the jungle camps would be pretty bad imo. Unless they buffed the Camps when you were in control they really wouldn't be doing much at all besides the super early game for some really cheesy lvl 2 invades where you just bring your red camp to the enemies blue and cheese the fuck outta them lmao.

Darfaller1 votes

Imo the way it shoudl work would be, when nunu kills a camp he can gain a mini pet version of the champ monster. These pets follow around nunu and either target the enemy he attacks or jsut use alt click to select an enemy. This way, nunu becomes more centered around the jg and he can use it to clear faster. Also his q could be chomp where he takes a bite out of the enemy dealing the usually true dmg to monsters, but it can be used on enemy champs dealing a large amount of ad dmg, while being able to execute enemies at very low hp like 100 to 150 at max rank, but the cd would be insanely high and it only heals on monsters.

RookPusher2 votes

Strongly disagree. If you do into a match knowing that Nunu is a in-and-out poke, and you're not up against a good range poke combo, he is ridiculous.

if you're nunu, you should be going in to Ice Blast, and then immediatly moving back out until your IB is off CD. Use Consume to offset counter-pokes and basically allow your ADC to get free CS.

As an example, I saw someone complain how OP braum was earlier. Nunu can needle him to death.

Zach Sandwhich2 votes

You do bring valid points to the table, but as you said yourself "If you're not up against a good range poke combo, he is ridiculous." Now I don't know what you see in your matches since everyones experience is different (I saw a yorick go 13/8 while being high and running into every tower all game the other day...) but most of the ADC's I see and play with have some kind of reliable poke (Ez, Jhin, Cait) or on the enemy team I'll see supports with good poke like Bard or the occasional Veigar or Xerath support (even though i've never seen those two). So maybe the problem with Nunu Support isnt that he is bad himself but that the current meta just doesn't suit him.

RookPusher3 votes

I'd take Cait out of there because her poke isn't often enough (imo) to combat Nunu. She has range on him, but either the support comes to the front line - which i'll then poke to death - or she does and her range is negated. It really has to be consistent poke because otherwise Nunu is going to heal/pot/Conume his way out of the poke combo.

Zach Sandwhich3 votes

You got a point on the cait poke since it most of the time it does require you to get hit by the Net or walk into a trap. I'm going to edit the original post to make note of that. I still think that Nunu is a bad support (IMO), but you have brought to light situations in which he could work. I'm actually thinking of trying it now. Ty for not flaming the fuck outta me lmao.

RookPusher2 votes

Not a problem, bother. Should it help, I tend to build speed boots (for max chase down), and then item 3065, After that, rush the CDR. That Ice Blast is hell once it's got near constant uptime.

It's like that on every thread. The boards are public and if you post something people think they can give you advice on, they will.

I have seen any people telling a bard main how to play bard, or a soraka main how to play soraka.

I haven't seen any jungle post tell a Mumu main how to play him, or a Zac main how to play Zac.

That's why I made this thread. Because it's weird and a double standard so it seems.
