Mega Orbs are a waste of money.

Thought I'd transcribe this in case anybody was thinking of spending money on these arcade items, or on the offchance Riot might actually bother to listen to the feedback of the customers and fans.

Had some spare RP kicking around, so I thought I'd buy a Mega Orb. This orb was the stuff of legend, as it resulted in a combo chain of 6 or so orbs which included one instance of 2 gemstones in a mix of otherwise forgettable skins. Now, this created the illusion of these things actually being worth their cost - mainly due to the gemstones and the high rate of bonus orbs. So I decided to actually give Riot the benefit of the doubt and believe these were much less of a scam than I had initially thought.

Queue me buying more of these orbs. Only one instance of among roughly 15 of an orb duplicating. To add insult to injury, the vast majority of the skins I received were team skins and skins tied to holidays (mainly Christmas/Snowdown). I'd be MUCH little less miffed if the overwhelming majority of these legacy skins weren't content they reliably haul out of the vaults whenever certain times of the year roll around, and didn't drop skins I already own.

It gets even more annoying when you realize that Great Orbs also have a chance to drop these items, which theoretically increases the swathe of worthwhile content you will have a chance at obtaining. Keep in mind that I have not purchased any Great Orbs, primarily because of the ripoff these Mega Orbs were. Even then, I'm inclined to say that these Great Orbs are also a waste of time.

What would make these more worth the money over something like your basic chests?

  1. A higher chance at obtaining gemstones and obtaining duplicate orbs.
  2. Having those higher priced orbs and items NOT give you shards for skins you already have. I'd have much less of a problem with this aspect if these orbs weren't significantly more expensive than your chests.
  3. Allowing legacy skin shards to be fused for gemstones.
  4. Allowing legacy skin shards to be fused to PICK a choice skin from the vault - the amount fused being the benchmark for the value of the skins you may select.

As it stands, I'm likely not going to throw any more money at these digital booster packs. However, I can garuntee you that I'd have spent much more money on them if you at least included suggestions 3 and 4, and would probably drop money on every event when they rolled around. (Also, I am sad I missed the Order Vs Chaos event.)

unfortunately more and more games are having this lootbox/mega orb system, and the exclusive gem stone loot box skins shows how focused and pathetic riot is because they KNOW that by making a skin exclusive to loot boxes which require gem stones which are exclusive to lootboxes they can make people addicted to gambling spends thousands of dollars for them or entice those collectionists to spend thousands of dollars.

Every event Riot does is a cash grab and has been that way for a long time.
