Rivens all in should be based around her Ult no around her base abilitys
I love Riven and while im no where near a riven main its kinda easy to see why so many people find her so frustrating. Rito has said the reason to nurf a champ isn't always because their to good but because they are toxic or bad for the players experience. I think Riven might fit this criteria and be in need of some balance changes from what ive seen of her gameplay.
I think the easiest way to fix her isn't to just lower all her damage numbers because then you'd be killing the part of Riven that's Riven. Rather i think the problem is that base Riven without her ult has such amazing scaling that being fed just makes her so much better. Feast or famine is fine but it should be feast OR famine not a 1 - 1 AD scaling on 2 of her powerful utility ability's don't you think?
Rito talks about powers and weaknesses a lot as well as how counter play is important. Yet Riven doesn't really have a defining weakness, Shes strong without her ult and stronger with her ult. Her Shield has a 100% bonus ad scaling on top of its flat amount and her stuns also adds a 100% ad scaling damage to a very powerful effect for no real reason besides making sure she deals the damages.
I think a nice weakness to give her would be to tie her all ins into her ultimate. Riven's ult performs how i think it should, giving her increased base stats only when its active. The problem is Riven scales so well without her utl that it jsut becomes an AD buff rather than a cor defining ability. In many ways Riven's ult simply functions as an ad item when she hits 6 11 and 16. Riven's ult should be a big deal to Riven not just "oh hey i do more damage now".
I suggest increasing the power of Riven's ult and decrease the power of her Q - W - E. That way you have windows of weakenss where counter play is possible rather than windows of power and windows of supercharged power. Zed is scary but without his ult Zed's kill potential isnt all that much so long as you play accordingly and smartly. There isn't really a back and forth with non utled Riven and ulted Riven besides "She deals a lot of damage" and "she deals even more damage".
Im not suggesting you gut riven when she doesn't have her ult. In fact i think a shift of 5% - 10% of her power and ad scaling from base stats to her ult would be enough to all ow for windows of counter play when Riven ulted to soon.
TLDR: I think a good counter play nerf to Riven would be making base non ulted riven 95% - 90% as powerful as she is now and at 100% of her current ult form when ulted. Thus allowing for a more clear window of counter play and making Riven's players have to think about when they want to ult more.
Any constructive thoughts and ideas? Besides RIVEN'S FINE AS IS! and NO REMOVE HER FROM THE GAME!
