What's Physical and Magical Damage?

So I want to know how Physical and Magical damage affect the gameplay, other than Magic resistance and Armor. Does AP always = Magic reistance (and vice versa)?

yes physical damage is ad damage reduced by armor... crit is just amplification of physical damage...

ap is magic damage reduced my magic resist...

however there are champs who scale with ad and do magic damage... Corki for example... his passive turns his damage on autos to half physical and half magic

and then are champs who have ap scaling that does physical damage like Shyvana W which is an aoe damage similar to item 3068

What if you're playing an AP champion but build AD on them (Playing AD lux for example) - does she do physical damage then?

her abilities dont scale with AD so her abilities wont do much damage with out AP but she can auto and all champs auto attacks are physical damage.. but building ad lux isnt ideal she is a zone/burst mage who needs AP and magic pen

just as if you wanted to play Cait as ap... she auto attacks and does damage through that and her abilities dont scale with AP so getting ap on her wouldnt be ideal cuz she dont use abilities for damage per-say she is an auto based champ who does physical damage amplified by attack speed, armor pen and crit

Physical damage is reduced by armor. Magical damage is reduced by MR.

No, an AP ratio does not always mean an ability deals magic damage, and an AD ratio does not always mean an ability deals physical damage; that's dependent on the type of damage the ability deals.
