Would Mana Steal Be a Bad Mechanic?
Let's say you have an ability that is mana hungry, but if you land it, it steals a set amount or a small percentage of the enemies current mana. Would that be inherently unhealthy?

Anything has the potential to be inherently unhealthy, especially with the current...philosophies, held onto by the balance team. Poll options are a little meh, but I wouldn't mind a kit built around this myself.
Yeah kinda just made this post quick because I was irritated because someone was arguing with me that it was inherently unhealthy, and I think if done right it could be a very unique champion design that we don't have yet.
Its inherently unhealthy. The Poll is flawed and the results will not reflect how people really feel about it.
Oh I see you ticky little S*&^T
You word it "Would that be inherently unhealthy?" then put the Poll as "Healthy?"
So it you go off the paragraph you vote infavor of it even tho you know its UNHEALTHY.
Riot use to have it in the game and removed it because its WAY to punishing to mages who already are struggling with mana issues.
passive was SpellVamp that would steal mana
I was not trying to be sneaky. That is an accident. I agree that it was not healthy in the manner it was in before. O think Morgana had too much going on. I don't like it on a mage at all. I think it should be on a fighter. It is mainly used for lane and it is dangerous to use then. I think it would make the fighter really good against tanks though.
It could work on some kind of mage, something that would drain a percentage of a champion's mana/energy. Maybe if they have neither, it deals bonus damage.
I agree that it needs to still get mana from energy users and Fury users while reducing their energy or fury and I think it should give you mana back still when against a none energy, mana, fury user, but still be less effective. I personally would want it on a top laner and focus the balance mainly on laning phase.

because it's a mana drain, i would expect it to be used midlane, by a mage, against other mages. Although it would be good on a support as well. A lot of toplaners use mana/energy/fury/etc, but i would think it would be most effective as a mid or sup tool.
the thing is how would you implement it would it be a passive a basic ability or an ult and would this have any scalings to it
Imo it would be a basic ability and it would be on a fighter that is designed for top lane. It would be on a short ranged ability and Its main focus is to force the champion to try to steal the other laners mana or push and if the other laner plays wrong they can do both. It would probably be their damage ability so they can't just spam it unless they go for trades and it would steal like 10% of current mana. So early game it would steal like on average 10-30 mana at a time. It would be mainly be laning focused.
if that's the case i hope it has a double digit base cd
It would be early. But remember in my imagination the ability takes alot of mana and will wipe the user out of mana very quickly unless they hit the enemy most of the time.
There's a support in Dota 2 known with that exact ability. Like most supports in that game though, they scale badly and don't get that much gold to spend, where as a support getting a full item build in LOL's late game is actually realistic.
It could work potentially, but honestly, a lot would have to be considered for it to playable, yet balanced. It's something that would definitely start off as either too broken o too weak if released.
How would it work on energy/mana less champs?
A champ with this ability would have to have low max mana and mana regen. If this doesn’t work on manaless or energy champs, they would all be extremely difficult matchups as u would run oom very fast
Energy and fury would be hard to balance, but maybe something along the lines of taking 5% of their current fury or energy while in my mind the ability takes 10% of current mana. This would also be on a fighter that plays top imo.
it depends on how it would interact with non-mana users. Mana burning someones rage/energy is far more devastating than manaburning mana(something you can build a metric shit ton of)

doesn't really make sense top side. Anything that's burning mana, is a antimage champion that is going to want to lane vs mages.
Take DOTA's anti-mage for example. Mid laner, burns mana, his ultimate is a single target nuke that deals damaged based on how much mana the target is missing. I know id rather throw that at a Cassiopea than a Riven, lol.
I think it would actually be insane against mana users too side. Since they don't really build mana regen. Tanks would have a counter for sure.
So its a mundo q? interesting
Essence Strike - Mana cost 70/75/80/85/90 Cooldown 10/9/8/7/6 Emilia roots herself for .25 seconds while channeling magical power into her blade. After she thrust the blade forward in a rectangular hitbox 400 units buy 150 units dealing damage and stealing 10% current mana from the opponents hit. The attack also slows by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 second and deals 80/100/120/140/160+(80% bonus Attack damage) as magic damage. If the target is an energy user or no resource user she gains 10% of her missing mana back. If enemy uses energy they lose 10% of their current energy.
Something like this.
I think people are viewing this as something you'd take against mages, but I'd imagine, if it was on mages, it would be possible to balance. It would act as a new form of pseudo mana regen (because riot felt the need to inexplicably remove that) but it would also create actual mana pressure on the non-mages, who might want to buy max mana to buffer themselves against having their mana stripped before they can find an opening to engage.
