Season 5 vs. Season 6 changes in elo?

Hello, I am pretty much new to league of legends and i am currently in bronze 5. I have a question about the mmr system in season 5 and in season 6. Why did people drop down tiers and divisions from winning most of the provisionals? My theory is that there were some elo changes such as bronze 3 contains 1000 elo players while last season, it was about 900. Also, my rank in the preseason in december was about b2 and b3 but now I currently am promoting and demoting around the b4 b5 area. I swear I am much more skilled than few months ago when I use to go ad heimerdinger (don't ask), never bought a ward, and had like 40 cs every 10 mins. Can someone explain why my rank is lower than before when I clearly improved?

During placements this season, most people would be placed roughly a tier below their MMR at the end of last season.

If you want an example, I ended Season 5 as a Platinum 5 with roughly Platinum 2 MMR (I had to play with Platinum 2s during all of my promo matched to Platinum 5).

At the start of this season, I was placed into Gold 2 after going 6/4 in my placement matches. That's pretty much exactly one tier below where I was.

Also, while you believe you are going fine, your recent match history shows very poor KDA and CS in the majority of your games even though you are playing against Platinum 5 opponents.

Looking at your ranked games last season, you have a very small number played (less than 50). Considering that you begin with roughly Silver 4 MMR when you start playing ranked in your first season, that may have been the main reason you were in Bronze 2/3 last season.

It is quite possible that you simply didn't play enough ranked games last season to fall to your appropriate rank.
