A Couple of Changes to Aatrox

So Aatrox has been in a bad state for a while; he's a feast/famine champ with glaring problems in his kit. He's needed a couple of touch-ups since his release, especially with the continually rising mobility creep. He gets kited really easily, he scales poorly with AD, he is punished for building HP even though he desperately needs it, and his spells are pretty difficult to hit on smart players despite his absolute dependency on hitting them.

I have a few changes in mind to keep him thematically in check while also adding a few things to help him play a bit smoother.

Passive: Bloodwell

  • Now starts draining after 7 seconds rather than 5

  • Now grants bonus effects based on how full his Bloodwell is (25 / 50 / 75 / 100 % capacity)

Q: Dark Flight

  • Damage reduced to 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 + (50% AD)

  • Radius increased by 10%

  • Bloodwell Effect: Grants a shield for 2.5 / 5 / 7.5 / 10 % Max HP

W: Bloodthirst/Bloodprice

  • Bloodprice Heal increased to 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 + (30% Bonus AD)

  • Bloodprice Heal when below 50% HP reduced to 200% from 300%

  • Bloodwell Effect: Bloodthirst/Bloodprice procs grant 5 / 15 / 25 / 35 % Movement Speed

E: Blades of Torment

  • Is now an Auto-Attack Enhancer/Reset

  • The next Basic Attack will deal 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 + (60% Bonus AD) + (60% AP) Magic Damage and slow the target by 40%

  • Two converging waves of energy are sent out from the target's position, dealing the same damage and applying the same slow

  • Slow duration changed to 2 seconds at all ranks from 1.75 / 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.75 seconds

  • Bloodwell Effect: Basic attacks reduce the E's cooldown by .25 / .5 / .75 / 1 seconds

  • Cooldown changed to 10 seconds at all ranks from 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8

R: Massacre

  • Magic damage reduced to 200 / 250 / 300 + (100% AP) from 200 / 300 / 400 + (100% AP)

  • Attack speed reduced to 30 / 40 / 50 %

  • New Effect: Aatrox gains 10 / 20 / 30% increased healing effects for the duration of Massacre

  • New Effect: Nearby allies gain half of the attack speed and increased healing effects while they are near Aatrox

  • (Can be changed to increased SELF healing effects if it is too overpowered Soraka )

In conclusion, I think this will make Aatrox a little bit better at fulfilling his job as an engager and duelist while fitting his lore and theme quite nicely.

Any thoughts/comments/alternate opinions?

I think for the most part that these changes will make him more op than intended. There are other champs like attroz that need to be changed in some ways, but currently aatrox is a decent spot.

I agree he's in an OK spot, but it's because people know he can be an acceptable pick in some situations, but a hindrance to your team in others. There are specific matchups he just doesn't have a chance in and he can be outplayed way to easily. He needs touch-ups just to breathe some life into him.

Yea, the changes might be a bit much, but it's just a way to push some ideas on him.

Like you said, it might be a bit much, but the idea of him having skill benefits for his passive sounds interesting. The only issue i see is that once he gets max bloodwell, he just permanently has all of these buffs until hes out of combat. That seems really powerful, especially if it takes 7 s to drain. Its not that hard to spam his e to keep that passive up either.

It could be problematic, but anyone who plays Aatrox knows that the Bloodwell already depletes really quickly.

Currently, if his abilities don't hit anything, then although the Bloodwell gets filled a bit, it starts to drain instantly.

Also, since his abilities cost health, spamming his E will quickly drain his life bar as well. Plus, the new E I proposed would be an auto-attack enhancer, meaning he wouldn't be able to spam it without minions, and if he is near minions he will probably get poked down.

Yea, you could spam his Q, but again that costs HP, and a lot more HP than his E.

The point is, he would be rewarded for being able to keep his Bloodwell up more than he already is, since right now if it ISN"T all the way up, he's heavily punished.
