placement games are setting rank way too low!!

so I just finished placements with a perfect run, 10 wins and no losses. hooray! right?

The thing is, the rank I have ended up with is 4 divisions lower than I was last season!

I mean, I get riot wants people to earn their rank, and to reset the ladder at the beginning of seasons. But if someone has played well enough to have a perfect placements run, shouldn't they at least be ranked exactly where they were last season?? if not higher????

i swear I've been climbing through the same 5 divisions for the past 3 years now because of this. I would like, for once, to start maybe even just 1 division below where I had left off in the previous season. Especially if my placements literally could not have gone any better.** I really enjoy this game, but the handicaps that are put on players that don't dedicate all their free time to LoL is staggering.**

It would be great to hear from a rioter about this, but I am a realist and realize that will not happen :( good day.

Heres a thing I've learned playing for years. Wait 2 or even 3 months before doing placements. I usually do mine in june. The start of a new season brings out trolls that purposely ruin ppls games. I have gone 5 and 5 one season. Was placed g4 and my prior season was g3. It's worth to wait till the ladder spreads out.

They did a rank nuke because last season was an utter flustercluck. People were blitzing ranks in a span of a few games (provided their MMR was already decently high) and there were a lot of reports of players being in elos where they were clearly not up to par, but because something happened last season to the ranked system, they were able to climb there anyway and stay there. (Plat and Diamond felt the main brunt of this.)

I placed G4 on two accounts last season, after having 5-6 seasons of straight Silver. Placed Gold IV, and getting 40+ LP per win, with single digit losses. I could have inted for an entire day and not lost my rank. That is not okay.

The ranked pool will always be a mess for the first month or so, but this is honestly the point where I say play like you're a man on a mission! All of the bads are playing, and as long as you're better than them, chances are that your winrate will skyrocket.

Just to give you a bit of hope, you can still climb despite the reset. Over the same 3 years, I went from Gold5 at the end of Season 7 to Plat3 at the end of Season 9.

Do you, really? Because if you did, you wouldn't say...

But if someone has played well enough to have a perfect placements run, shouldn't they at least be ranked exactly where they were last season?

That wouldn't be a reset then...

For the records, I did 3W-7L (as every year), and I got placed SEVEN (7) divisions lower. Four lower with 10W is par for the course.

Peculiar. Personally, I went 8W 2L and from Plat 4 I got placed in the elo hell named Gold 2

No, they are not putting you too low. No, they should not place you where you were before.

Maybe the reason you're climbing the same ranks over and over is that you don't actually improve relative to the community year on year. If you placed higher you would get stuck sooner. Being stuck in your rank right from the get go is hella demotivating to climb.

And I mean, you played some 200 games last season. I went 1-9 on my provisional last season, started off at like 25 lp per game in gold and in 300 games got to diamond (near the end of the season, mind). You should have seen some kind of improvement in your rank with the way ranks inflated and the number of games played.

Know the reason why people who play a lot of games climb further? Because all of that play time leads to improvement.
