Why doesn't Riot just enable all champions in ARAM?

Tik115··100 votes·8,944 views

Y'know BESIDES the Muh LCS Focus or cause Riot don't care about ARAM (which is true)

There is no good reason to not enable all champions on ARAM.

"But then I won't get a champ I'm good at" - It's called ALL RANDOM Its not very Random if you know you'll get a champ your good at now is it? "Currently its fair" - A player with a pool of all 120 summat champs vs an ARAM only account who deliberately unlocked the ARAM Ops is fair? "It wouldn't help the teams become balanced" - But at least then we won't see Lux/Nid/Sivir every ARAM "They're waiting to get a new re-roll system"- So enable all champions in ARAM and implement the reroll system later, I don't see how it prevents it "Riot don't care about ARAM" - the only legit reason, in which case just do away with it and put it in customs instead of faking dedication to the mode.

It's honestly pretty dumb of them to not have all champions available.

  1. People get to try out new champions! It will encourage them to buy those new champions (if they liked him/her).

  2. It would make the randomness feel truly random. There are some champs I rarely see. I want to be able to see all champions in ARAM.

Yeah, and I also hate rerolls and swaps. I believe in Iron Man ARAM - all champs available, no rerolls, no swaps.

That is how real randomness would feel. The term you're looking for is "fair"

riot wants you to buy the champs, for many reasons!

if all champs were available in aram then aramers wont venture over to SR which is what i assume they want you to do, because lets face it, Riot cares mostly about SR and even though they will have other modes to offer variety, in the end they want you playing SR (from their point of view i understand this but dont agree with the current system either)

ShaftyMegee6 votes

Idk man... idk. I've wondered why they call it ALL RANDOM for a while now.

joebobby141213 votes

Assuming you actually don't know, it refers to all the players. Originally ARAM was something people did on SR to be silly. Everyone would hit the random button and everyone would go mid. All Random All Mid.

As far as whether, or not everyone should have access to all champions, absolutely, everyone should be unlocked automatically.

I hate rerolls. I hate trades. I hate champion locks.

Not only would it level the playing field and make the game mode truly live up to its name, but it would also randomly allow newer players to sample champions they might want to unlock. It would be a lot better than free week (aka, "omg imma rage because this might be a feeder" mark of shame week).

Saianna2 votes

Trades aren't all that bad!

I have more than 1k games in ARAM. And tbh trade saved me few times whenever i rolled champion i despise 101% (mostly after their rework)...

It kinda breaks all random part.. But lets me honest, there's nothing ARAM in Riots ARAM.

Count Buffon1 votes

Lost opportunity to learn.

Saianna1 votes

Well yeah, but when you do know basics of most of champions and right now you just don't feel like playing bruiser/tank XYZ'th time today, then trades do help you :)

Count Buffon1 votes

It doesn't help me when I'm trying to pick my summoner spells but I have to time it in between trade requests because the interface sucks balls.

Lugg4 votes

Do your really want your teammate playing a champion who he has no clue how to use?

Count Buffon10 votes

In ARAM, yes. The more the better.

Meeks0112 votes

I'm guessing you're the guy who gets Katarina or Yi every game in ARAM and gets fed then flames your whole team for playing ARAM right.

Lugg3 votes

I prefer NOT to play Kat or Yi in ARAM. No challenge whatsoever.

TotalJerk4 votes

The main reason is that there is a large base of casual players who play ARAM exclusively and they pretty much wouldn't buy champions if they got access to all of them. I had the idea that Riot should make all champions available, but make owned champions 5 times more likely to be picked.

Saianna3 votes

Riot cares about ARAM only when there are some (winter) skins to sell :(

Upvoted, cause I love ARAM!

Reroll/Next-Game system should be this.

Game -1: You get Nidalee Game -2: You physically can not play Nidalee again, Rerolling doesn't allow it neither does Trading for Nidalee. Game -3: You can get Nidalee again

Then it'll be really random because I've had three games where the same person got Varus three times in a row. They were on my team so I can't really complain but it's not really random is it.

Hatless Casual1 votes

Because 3 games in a row with Jinx was fun a few weeks ago.... It's sad how much you can love playing a champion, then playing them over and over you get bored really quickly.

Pretty much the only reason.

Marthian1 votes

Considering ARAM isn't as popular as Rift, I doubt it.

Hawkefire3 votes

ARAM is incredibly popular, I don't know what you are talking about (there is even a decent sized population that wants to have a ranked version of it, which I personally find a bit....odd).

The reason Riot wont do it is because they don't want to "give champions away for free" was what I heard their last excuse was for not implementing the change. Nevermind the fact that they are only usable in that gamemode and are gotten purely by chance.

Marthian1 votes

never said it wasn't popular, just said it isn't as popular (LCS still does its major games on the Rift, and the game is balanced exclusively around Summoner's Rift.)

aLawfulFalafel1 votes

if aram had ranked then i would support ranked having ALL champs available for sure as well as a ban phase

Hatless Casual3 votes

No ban phase, purely random with no favoritism to the free rotation they have now.

You can get every champ for free just by playing the game. Your argument is invalid.

Aych Pii2 votes

A good reason? You didn't unlock those champions, so you'll have to wait for free week to play them. That's just the way it works, sorry.

If you're going to rant at least use proper grammar. Other wise people might think you're an idiot venting his real life frustration out on a video game.

It's kind of a very real thing though, if I see somebody complaining but they don't even bother to check over what they've written... it makes me take them less seriously. Like a child or something.

Idea for reroll system: Let rerolls be used on enemy champions as well. For instance, If the enemy team rolls a kat, you can use one of your rerolls to force them on something else. I think that might be interesting. probably wont happen. but interesting, nonetheless. also, I think the way it is now the teams are setup blind, they would have to rework the way those games are setup to implement this.

Kingopants2 votes

Screw the all champs, What's really needed is for champions to be pool selected. So everyones champs are combined and you select champions from that. It will discourage ARAM accounts and still reward players for buying a lot of champions since they will get more re-rolls.

aLawfulFalafel1 votes

there are many good ideas on how to approach this and many of them have flaws of varying degrees, but this idea, this idea i like :)

Meeks0111 votes

I see a Katarina every fucking ARAM and she always gets fed.

I used to think that it was this way, but then was so disappointed when I found out it wasn't. ARAM lost its charm after that. I want to try more than two new champions every week. Because they put 450 IP champions into that rotation and a few champions seem to be except (item 3070 Yorick item 3070 ).

wait wait wait what? remove game mode queue for ARAM because it isnt maintained like the Rift? wh-what? any point you have made sir is thrown out the window after such a comment. i agree that playing against (and even with) aram accounts can handicap your potential fun sometimes, that its not fair to us pokemon champ owners that gotta buy em all, but A : removing ARAM queue is counter-productive and B : owning more champs gives rerolls quicker, so something as simple as RR limit raises by 1 per 20 champs owned after 30 champs owned (50-70-90-110) evens out the playing field (also champ random should give players their champ first or last depending on how many or few are owned [ i have a chance* to get ziggs before the aram only accounts have a chance* to get ziggs])

my biggest problem isnt that i see the same aram champs alot, its that i never get ziggs/sona/lux/etc because i have a 1 in 80 chance to get them and the aram only accounts have a 1 in 16 chance (not including w/e free champs there are) and yet i STILL have the same reroll limit as they do!

can we please have a system to earn a higher reroll limit (with decay) so that aram favoring players without aram accounts have their own type of advantage

cant blame the aram account holders for doing what their doing, the system allows it and is unintentialy favoring them

PS i love ARAAM <3 its still better than rift through and through and if THIS is our biggest problem then im not even sweating :)

I dno man thats like a 0.83 % chance of you getting to a play a character you don't own that might have otherwise purchased. That could be hundreds of millions of dollars lost for Riot by letting you have all the champions for free.

HexKaster1 votes

I agree that ARAM should have all the players unlocked to truly be random. However there are some who like it the way it is. So Why doesn't Riot just make it a separate game mode. On Summoners Rift you can choose between Blind Pick and Draft Pick. On ARAM a person could choose between All Characters or Unlocked Characters Only. That way people looking to try new champions can choose All Characters mode. And people who like ARAM just the way it is can choose Unlocked Characters Only mode. Win-Win! XD

I also have some comments on the re-roll system but I think that is a topic for a different post. correct me if I am wrong. Or reply to me if you see any problems with my Idea. Id love to expand.

the Anarchit3cht3 votes

that would split the queues too much and the wait times would be too long. they'd either both be too small, or only one would and everyone would thus flock over to the more popular one to actually get a game and thus exacerbate the problem. Think about Dominion. Think about the wait time in say, Draft for Dominion.

HexKaster1 votes

True -True point taken.

even the random champ select doesn't feel random, a lot of games feels like the matchmaking intentionally tries to give one team terrible comps and the other powerful ones

The only reason I can think of is for low lvl players who only played a low amount of champs. But

  1. They probably don't know the free week champs either
  2. You can also make this for lvl 30s exclusively
  3. Why does it matter? It's a funmode. Games tend to be short, so if you really suck that hard, you'll get stomped and into a new game after 15 mins.
Maratsune1 votes

sigh I exclusively play ARAM. If there are champs I don't have, it's because I loathe playing them. The champs I own aren't the champs that are 'OP' in ARAM; they're ones I won't want to d/c from if I'm forced to play them. 'ARAM' accounts? Somebody having one may increase that person's own individual winrate in ARAM, sure. (up to a point- once they get to a high enough MMR, any advantage they gain from 'OP' champs will become negligible.) But that doesn't matter at all to everybody else in the average game. It's still possible to roll a Lux whether somebody has a 1/120 chance to get Lux or a 1/12 chance in getting Lux. I don't get why people are pushing for this so hard. If you want to play different champions, buy the bloody champion and go to Summoner's Rift. I would however vouch for more randomness in ARAM. I've had numerous times where I've gotten Nami 4 times in a row, or Orianna 3 times in a row, and while I know that that's possible in true randomness, true randomness isn't really all that good of an idea for a game mode like this.

And besides, why should ARAM be 'fair'? Summoner's Rift isn't fair, Twisted Treeline isn't fair, that other one isn't fair. If you put the time/resources into a game mode, of course you should have an advantage in it.

greenbird761 votes

My brother only used to play ARAM, so he only bought champions that he knew were good there. His champion pool wasn't exactly fair because at the time the only viable champions on ARAM were those with range. He bought Lux, Blitz, Nid, Xerath, Ziggs, and a few others. He almost always got a 'God-Tier' pick.

Singady1 votes

Upvoted because right now it's not all random it's semi-random that you have way too much control over.

I mean, the gamemode used was fun because it was depended on luck and you'd get stupid comps.

CuriosityCube1 votes

They really should make ARAM pick from all champions, playing vs 5 same champions every game gets boring fast
