Sion Tips?

I just unlocked Sion, and he's been a pretty good champ in the PvB as practice. I've noticed that items like item 3056 and item 3742 are good utility items, and item 3026 pretty much gives him 2 revivals per life. My questions are: what offensive items are good for him, especially when I start PvP, and are there any advanced strategies to use as Sion other than being able to pause your Ult, and waiting until the last moment to pause your Q for max efficiency? Is item 3031 worth getting, or is item 3071 a better item? I'm fairly new and noobish to playing Top Laners, and Tanks at that since I normally play ADCs and Supportive Champs, so any constructive advice I can get is appreciated.

Infinity edge is not worth getting. Pretty much the only offensive item you need is black cleaver. You can get titanic hydra if you really want, but reaching 40% cdr and just spaming your spells + tanking everything is your best bet.

Black cleaver is shit on him now. Iceborne Gauntlet is way more efficient on him now, as a damage choice

No its not, basically the only reason you get it is for the movement speed on physical damage. Everything else is just a perk.

A slow onto your target is more useful for your team than a ms buff is for yourself. Not to mention, the item is 800 gold cheaper, and synergizes with your tank items

I consider Iceborn far more niche than BC, simply because it is. How often is that slow going to help your team? Probobly 1 out of every 20 kills because people will already be dead to rights if you hit them with your ulti and Q. Also Iceborn offers little offensive capabilities while BC is considered to be all offense.

Iceborne Gauntlet provides you with the most important stat you actually want for 800 gold cheaper. If anything, I think Death's dance is more useful on Sion than black cleaver is.

Alright don't build black cleaver then, continue with your iceborn death's dance build. You know sometimes the majority of the community is right instead of your single opinion.

I'm not trying to call everyone wrong, I'm just saying that wouldn't it be better to just have an inexpensive item like IBG done and over with so that you can get to your real tank items earlier? People can build Black Cleaer first if they want to, But I really feel like having an item that actually lets you heal off of your q's, last longer in battle, and still gives you more ad to toy with can't be all that bad

item 3748. Damage scaling with HP + Infinitely scaling HP on W passive = 100-0ing ADCs late game. I've lived it many times. Got around 6000-8000 HP late game, meant 600-800 bonus AoE damage on Titanic Active, not to mention the passive damage item 3053 is good too, but may be straying too far away from resistances and CDR to be effective later on in my opinion

Usually, if you want damage (and I think Sion has a pretty strong kit w/o building a lot of damage) you get Black Cleaver. No matter what these people tell you, BC increases not only your own damage but every one else's on your team, the MS is nothing to sneeze at, and everything else is gravy. If you don't really need to build super tanks (roflstomps) get a titanic hydra in a addition to BC. Also remember to use your shield slightly before you ult. You're a hard target to hit when you ult, and you might get away with popping your shield AS YOU ARRIVE, which deals insane damage. And, this is mostly a personal thing, I would say use offensive runes, defensive masteries. This helps you farm and win early trades without sacrificing too much late game tankiness.

PS I consider myself a Sion main and would love to talk more/play with you and help

:3 very awesome advice! I'd love to get to know more about playing Sion, and Top Lane/Jungle in general. I'm lacking in those two areas, mainly because I'm a Support, Mid, and ADC main. I just can't seem to do well with most melee Champs, so any help is appreciated.

Max out CDR on Sion, max Q first no matter what, then E and level R whenever possible. Q is your bread and butter everywhere. In lane, it's a farming tool. If the enemy is stupid enough to stay in it while it's got the knock-up, use it immediately, auto once, yell at them with E, auto again, W and walk off their attempts at trading back. If they aren't that stupid, just use it to farm. You can basically go Full Nasus in lane and outscale anyone except Vayne, KogMaw, or an actual Nasus if he knows what he's doing. Use E whenever you can to harass or if the wave is bunched up and you can hit at least 3/4ths of it. Use W as a defensive button or when going for a Trade,** do not use it to clear.**

Remember that early on, your charge has a high cooldown, so save it either for a gank, when roaming, or if you need to get out of somewhere fast. As you get more CDR, you can be more liberal with it.

I usually get item 3071 and item 3110 to get 40% CDR. Frozen Heart is undervalued in Sion, it gives him great armor, 20% CDR,and an aura that's a giant middle finger to their AD carries and anyone that relies on auto attacks and makes you THAT MUCH MORE of a priority target (and as a tank, you want that.) However, it gives no health and that's not the best thing on a Sion. I haven't tested IBG or any other CDR item, so experiment and find out what works for you. Main point is try to hit your cap quickly, because the more your Q and Ult are up, the stronger you'll be.

item 3748 synergizes with Sion stupidly well, but it's more of an item when your cooldowns are up, so keep in mind that a raw AD item MAY work better for you depending on the situation. I personally recommend item 3812 as an item if you think it'll be better, stealing back health works great on you though I haven't actually tested DD but it looks good imo.

In Teamfights you (usually) want to be the Initiator. If you see someone squishy step in front of the team, you fucking ult into that idiot and follow up with Q. If you lose the fight, it is your team's fault 4/5 times so don't blame yourself and move on.

Overall, your job is to Initiate and send all of their team to the hospital with Concussions or to the Graveyard. Any Further Questions?

Basically there's only 2 offensive items ever worth getting and sion usually doesn't need them, his base values carry him throughout the game and even then he's more about his aoe CC then anything, but the 2 damage items are either black cleaver or titanic hydra.

Sion synnergizes really well with items that reward building health thanks to his W passive, so items like warmogs, cinderhulk, and spirit visage can go a long way, also if you're ahead pure defensive stat items like frozen heart can be really good too but that's only if you're farming well (as sion natural hp per level is really bad)

I can't comment on his top lane prowess much as I'm ussually a jungle sion. But I Usually start W, then max Q.

Personally, I don't like using offensive items on Sion. Unless you plan on pounding enemies duing your passive. (in which case I would recommend Frozen Mallet.)

As a Tank, your primary damage is going to come from your spells. Which is why You already do well with defensive items like Frozen heart. (or something that offers CDR.) Offensively, Sion does best if he can Stun lock his opponent. And even if you don't build offensive items on him, his base damage is pretty good against glass cannons.

If you are playing to win, forget about Sion... play Riven/Yasuo.

Sion is woefully underpowered.
