how to trade as riven?

this is such a noob question so dont h8 me, but whats the best way to trade as riven?

played against a fiora as riven yesterday. I tried to engage with my Q; Some of the times, I got on top of her by my 3rd Q. If not, I E'd to her, then W'D. Couldn't win trades. I feel like I lost so much damage wasting my 1st and 2nd Q as gap closers. Should I have used my E as a gap closer instead?

again, noob question but unfortunately I have no one to help me ;-;

/r Rivenmains has a lot of advice but I will let you know a simple trade as Riven is Q W Auto then E out, free trade and you really shouldn't ever take damage doing it if done properly.

Thanks I have wondered about in-engage, dmg, shield or stun, then out for free trade champions where you could potentially build them full tank rely on just doing base dmg trades that are freeish, then have usable team cc (Q knockup is multi, and still have the W stun) with full tank build. Even though she isn't played that way there seems to be potential for it. Think i've even seen a tanky heavy build on her once can't remember it all but was like cleaver and maw as only dmg and everything else was tank. Can't remember the other items but you get the idea. maw could be switched for steraks and possible she may have had titanic hydra. Seems fun.

Riven is balanced around animation canceling. Its much harder to play her if you cant reliably do it. Also, fiora is a tougher matchup for her

I don't play riven, but i did sleep in a holiday inn express last night. That said supposedly the difference between a normal riven and one that excels is indeed animation canceling. Trying to weave attacks in-between spell-casts so that the ability casts eliminate the ending portion of the auto attack animation allowing you to do other things than wait for an unnecessary animation to complete. I 2nd what dis person said. :)

P.S. if all else fails you can go to youtube and type Riven vs Fiora and watch how some people have played vs her in successful full gameplay and take mental notes. That works in all sports. Sometimes easier to then know what to do but have difficulty doing it successfully but then that just takes practice. Good luck.

smash your head on your keyboard and your hand on the mouse and you should win any trade . GG

Person walks into bush hopeful its not warded and hits recall, and then gets up and rushes to bathroom, comes back to find they just won a teamfight, cause their cat walked across the keyboard. :) Who knows it has probably really happened.

When you get a vital that's easy to hit (one that's facing toward her), walk away until it disappears. When you walk back, it'll be facing the opposite direction. The range isn't very far, so it only takes a couple seconds to do this. When she dashes toward you, immediately stun. Save your e when she tries to walk away. Make sure you try to watch her w and never try to cc her while she's using it.

A lot of your damage isn't from your q, so usually don't use it as damage. Most of your damage is from your passive, which gives you something like sheen. So make sure while your trading, your using a stack of your passive on each basic attack and basic attacking as often as you can.
