Hypothetical: Melee Auto-Attacks no longer force you to stop moving

As in, melee auto attacks now all work like the totally balanced kits of Orianna and Syndra. A melee champion would be able to keep running along wailing on a fleeing foe where as a ranged champion needs to stop, line up a shot, and fire.

Melee-melee lanes are now totally broken. No realistic prospect of disengaging for most of the cast means that early lane bullies are the only viable melee picks.

Most early melee lane bullies have a get in, drop rotation, get out play pattern that would be harder to pull off if the 'get out' part wasn't working.

Exactly which early lane bullies would get played may change. Probably Renekton is not so good anymore, while Udyr just became super scary.

However, the critical problem here is that disengage is no longer a thing you can do, meaning that as a behind top laner you can no longer touch the minions.

As a side note, this proposal continues to promote mobility creep, as dashes become much more valuable if attacking while moving is a thing.

but then ranged wouldnt be able to go top!

As much as I would love it for my main (Garen) this would be one of the most unhealthy moves Riot could make. Tryndamere, Yi, Jax, and Fiora can already be impossible to deal with, but if they can attack while chasing? No thanks.

it makes sense, because you can hit while moving in real life. Though for the balance of this game I don't think it's viable.

I can see it potentially pushing some of the hyper melee carry folks over the top, but they've always been in an iffy position to begin with. Such a widely impactful change would be a godsend to a lot of lackluster champions (sup Olaf) while the few that might be pushed over the top could easily be brought back in line with numerical tweaking.

In threads like these it's never a good idea to focus in on the champion level. This is much much bigger picture stuff.

While I believe creating a difference in the way melee attack animations function compared to ranged attacks, the method brought up would feel very strange and clunky, especially when it comes to mouse clicks doing what you intend for them to do. It'd be better to lessen the amount of animation canceling afforded to ranged attacks instead.

The release point of every ADc's attacks (as well as the attacks of many of the other ranged champs' with good animations) should be made significantly later, forcing them to stay in place longer in order to let loose an attack. Ranged attacks should feel like Lina's or Lich's attacks in DotA, a massive windup time with very little animation available to be cancelled afterwords (the closest comparison I would make to this in LoL would probably be Annie's or Karthus's attack animations).

MF and Lucian wouldn't really need to line it. They could just aim and keep firing. Graves could just shoot anywhere, it's a shotgun after all.

Your reasoning of trying to use logic for this wont work.

I do believe something along this line would be good though. Something like attack-move. Right now they can do this anyway, but maybe if they had to wait less time before moving? Would probably require a lot of animation work to make it so the attack continues even if they moved. So I doubt they would really add anything.

Maybe a new mastery in the offensive tree. "Into the Fray" Melee: Your first attack on an enemy champion increases the range of the attack by 75 unities and you lunge at the target. This cannot happen to the same champion more than once every 30 seconds. Ranged: Every 4th auto attack's range is increased by 50 when attacking the same champion repeatedly.

invalid, would create a possibility for ranged champions to be outplayed but riot wont allow that.
