Uh, no, he's not. Not in the way that most "high skill cap" champions are, anyway. Yi is not intrinsically hard to play correctly. He's not like a Lee Sin who has many tools but has to use each one carefully lest he lose out on their value. He's not like Ekko who has to not only keep track of where he was 4 seconds ago, but where he will be 2.5 seconds into the future, and has to work around both of those points at all times. Yi's skill cap is more from simple game knowledge. Yi has one thing he can do; you're never going to get really good at "just run at them". Knowing when to "just run at them" is something that shows a high level of mastery but it doesn't make Yi hard to play or difficult to master.

that's not what a skill cap is.

you are very much undervaluing how smart Yi has to play vs a competent team. He needs to have the reflexes or the predictions to use Alpha Strike to dodge a key CC which could still hit him because this spell is STILL bugged, he needs to use Meditate smartly because it's on a 35 second cooldown that doesn't scale down, and he can't afford to waste his ultimate because it is pretty much his entire ability to contribute to fights, so if he blows it too early or he gets disengaged because he mistimed his Q, he's sent back to farming the jungle or splitpushing if he wasn't immediately nuked out of existence.

I can isolate a single thing in your post too.

Knowing when to "just run at them" is something that shows a high level of mastery but it doesn't make Yi hard to play or difficult to master.

Also the fact that he is super weak atm makes him even harder to play successfully.

He is definitely easy to pick up but one of the harder champs to master.

I feel like in certain meta's he most definately is. He struggles really hard in the tank meta, but strives in pretty much every other one, especially ADC meta.
