A Level 6 Aatrox Player's Opinion

Okay so as someone who really enjoys Aatrox, and has tried for such a long time to make him work, here's my 2 cents. I originally posted this as a comment, but figured it was long enough to be a thread of its own.

This change fixed a bunch of his problems, such as a counter-intuitive kit and misguided ratios.

Previously, his %HP costs would make it unfavorable to build health items, but his low base health would require him to build health. Now, he can freely stack tank items without losing a giant chunk of HP whenever he wants to engage.

Previously, his Blood Price would never be viable to use because it was less efficient to lose your own health to deal a tad bit of extra damage in comparison to simply gaining back a huge amount of health. Now, it's actually a legitimate choice you have to make, since you won't get your passive off without using Blood Price, but you won't heal yourself without using Blood Thirst.

Previously, he had terrible AD scalings, making it pointless to even try and build damage, as it wasn't efficient in the slightest. Now, he actually gets rewarded for building damage items other than attack speed/on-hit items.

However, this rework didn't fix a few other problems that plague his kit, mainly being an extremely telegraphed engage tool, punishingly high cooldowns on his CC, and a lackluster ultimate that seems anti-thematic when you really look at Aatrox's lore.

Finally, this change added a couple of new problems:

  1. His Passive is really awkward to use effectively in lane, and can be countered easily in team fights if people simply wait until his Bloodwell is drained to finish him off; very similar to Zilean if you ask me.

  2. His jungle is just stupid. Trying to clear at level 1 without a leash is either completely impossible, or slow as hell. After this, it gets a little better, but for a bandage update, making a change that negatively impacts one of the roles that he's always been fine in is kinda ridiculous.

Overall tho, I think this change does more good than bad. I'd like his Passive to be less awkward, and I'd easily take lower cooldowns on his Q over higher ratios any day, but I think I'm going to be playing Aatrox a lot more now.

You said that his W is improved but It is still a nerf I didn't mind it doing damage when you got more damage out of it. But in it's current state it heals less and does less damage than before which is just stupid IMO.

You didn't mind it hurting you because you didn't pay attention to how harmful it actually was to you. It actually heals for a lot more if you stack HP and get to about 30% health.

stack tank. but he is a fucking melee carry

okay, you heal a lot now if you get low and stack hp. But then you just get hit by some cc and die immediately. And there is pretty much no reason for being tanky on aatrox he doesn't do enough damage for a carry to really have to care about him unlike naut or those types of tanks who are tankier and do more damage. So there is even less reason to pick him after the rework.

has a level 7 aatrox main for the past 3 seasons his ad scalings are garbage .. since its not going towards his blood price.. 150 at max rank with 75% bonus ad....... guess what.............. you're passive only gives base.

...well first, champion ranks have only been out for 1.5 seasons, so idk what you mean by that.

Secondly, your post is overall very confusing. Please be a little more clear about what you mean, especially "you're (you are) passive only gives base."

means I've been maining aatrox for the past 3 seasons... and i'm a level 7 aatrox main. his passive only gives base ad during blood rush. however to get to blood rush you would have to use all of you're abilities on rotation. since aatrox cool downs are so high his base ad won't be significant when using his e and q . the only chance it had to boost something was his blood price but that only scales of bonus ad

Makes sense actually. Your Q wouldn't get much use out of it I suppose, but basic attacks would. I think that was the intention of this update.

still a shit reason . it should be bonus ad then base ad. not even his e scales with total ad. thats a piss poor intention time to stop making excuse for riot

I have only played him in sandbox but he looks like he may be better then before. And with updated BOTRK he should be pretty good. Just build some health and Armor/MR items. I think he will get a town more play now.

blood price was a tad bit of damage. the only reason blood price can be considered now s beause they cut his healing down to 1/3 of its power while cutting blood price to half. the reason aatrox couldnt use blood price before was because he was a squishy champion and is supposed to build squishy he is a melee carry after all ( drain tanking losses its meaning if you are an actual tank.) but the items he needed doesnt exist any more items with both a good amount of ad and attack speed or health and attack speed formerly item 3156 and item 3071 respectively. there was also item 3124 but look at all of his ap ratios now. Zephyr though it had no ad it had as much attack speed as aatrox could get in one item and movement speed which melee character need more than anyone else.
