I think I should give up on Diana

I can't compare to the likes of Zed, Lucian, Yasuo and Fizz. Seriously. What's the point of playing champions who need to hit their skillshots to land their full burst damage when I can just point click at exactly who I need to kill and have them eliminated.

I've been learning her recently and I actually think she's a lot more fun to play than other assassins. I wouldn't pit her against an assassin in the mid lane, only against a mage, but I've found her a lot more rewarding in the jungle. Her ganks are insane post 6, and with some smart positioning I've even managed some solid pre 6 ganks.

I find her pre 6 ganks hard to pull off without flash E. Her post 6 gank is awesome.

But teamfights come and she gets melted if she builds full ap (since she doesn't have as much ap from lane/lacks a tanky enough top laner) or she builds tanky but proceeds to do very little damage for most of the game.

Narasimha4 votes

How do you build her? She's best as an AP bruiser. So item 3020 item 3157 item 3001 item 3089 item 3116 and a situational last should see you through pretty much everything. Enough damage to take down a carry, and tanky enough to survive afterwards. Well, not if the entire enemy team collapses on you, but really, who would survive that?

Bro.

Zhonya's.

She needs some kind of rework now. She is in the state of pre nerf rengar, she trades herself for the enemy squishy and some damage on the rest of the enemy team.

Diana stomps most assassins post 6.

Do you enjoy playing her? Then play her. Learn to land your skillshots better.

Or, play what you think is top tier and feel bitter about it. I don't recommend this option, it's not very much fun. :P

Kobila20003 votes

It's also not very much fun getting wrecked just because your champion is outdated.

Pretty much. I faced a Yasuo mid as Diana the other day. Crushed him, got super fed. Didn't matter. He would whiff every wind wall, and if my Q hadn't literally just smacked into him, it was blocked no matter how the wall was oriented. Multiple times the edge of the projectile was actually past the wall. Without that first Q, she's pretty much useless. Her E's not even that great... I mean, yeah, it's nice CC... but no damage. On a combo assassin. Why?

Junkο6 votes

Her E is awesome in teamfights.

As for Yasuo Wind Wall thing, the hitboxes on most old champions are fucked up (plus Yasuo Wind Wall is buggy on it's own). For example Talon's entire ult disappears if 1 blade touches the Wind Wall.

Zed isn't exactly point and click, I don't remember Yasuo being an assassin as first role, Obama is still strong as ever that's true, and Fizz has been overpowered from ages and i still wonder why he didn't get caught by a gang of hungry chinese cooks.

I think Diana is actually quite strong and plan on making her one of my prime picks to get out of gold in this new season. The problem is, everyone plays her with the mentality and tendencies of an assassin. She is not an assassin and doing so will make you fall victim to the very reasons why she's been nerfed and tuned to the point where she is.

Diana does not have amazing base damage, however what she does have is very good sustained damage. Her passive does a lot of damage but building attackspeed ap (Ala item 3115 ) is a trap many bad players fall into. Building her AP assassin with high scaling AP items and lichbane only further enforces her "1 for 1" nature that leaves her feeling dissatisfying in a ranked environment where you have to gib their carry, die, then hope your team can clean up. The way I play her is seemingly unique but works for me and I think maybe it'll work for you too.

Start is simple. Diana needs mana, but she can't afford to build sustain early on when she needs to get an advantage. item 1056 item 2003 x2 Back into item 1001 item 1056 item 1056 . This is key. The triple dorans is non-negotiable. Hell, I've chosen it over needless because the sustain and bulk is too good.

Next on the list, see who you're against. If it's AP buy item 1057 for your item 3001 and if it's AD go item 1011 for your item 3116 Ultimately your build should be flexible and you shouldn't be afraid of building damage if you're ahead but don't let it be too much. Diana excels when she's bulky and able to fight. Also roam, a lot. Her pre-6 laning is rough but doable, fight when you can, don't be afraid of people because you don't have a dash.

Builds tend to look like this. vs AD heavy teams - item 3020 item 3110 item 3116 item 3800 item 3128 item 3089 vs AP heavy teams - item 3020 item 3001 item 3800 item 3102 item 3128 item 3116

item 3800 is a very strong item on Diana because it gives her mobility, chase, and CC on people while her ult is down. If they flash your ult you can glory to catch up instead of ulting again and hoping you don't get peeled once again. item 3116 is probably the best item for diana in the game. It has everything she wants and you should first or second item it every game. Triple dorans boots rylais Diana is very bulky and very deadly.

Masteries/runes are generic 21-9 pen/health/ap/ap runes. Nothing fancy just because she likes to auto or is melee.

What's the point of playing champions who need to hit their skillshots to land their full burst damage when I can just point click at exactly who I need to kill and have them eliminated.

I love the irony. Yasuo needs to hit his Q3 to kill you (or get into really short range of you to EQ) unless the enemy team has a Malphite and the like, but you should have noticed that at champ select and adapted your team. Zed only has 1 targeted skill, his ultimate which deals % of all the dmg you dealt, his Q is a skillshot, his E is a low range AoE. Oh and just buy Zhonya and his ult is useless on you. Why is Lucian being compared to assassins? He is a fucking ADC. He only has 1 point and click spell too, and it doesn't have that much range unless you use a minion or the like. But he is over the top. Fizz only has 1 targeted spell, an AA enchanter and a ult that is a fairly slow skillshot that takes up most of his dmg unless fed. I will admit as a Fizz player that he IS over the top though.

Kobila20006 votes

I think anyone who finds hitting Yasuo's Q challenging should stop playing League altogether due to being mentally handicapped. Fizz is melee. The only way his ult will not hit is if he throws it from max range, or the opponent flashes from it. He may not be as stupidly faceroll as Akali, but a paragon of any complexity, far from it.

Junkο2 votes

Or you could play Yasuo. I do, and his Q as a skillshot is as difficult to hit as any other skillshot, and even silver players down here know if you are going to EQ3 and will distance themselves away from you, and if you are using minions to try to do that, well unless you are putting 5 ranks in E first you aren't going to catch them.

Also my point was that all the champions he listed only have 1 targeted skill, Zed has ult, Fizz has Q, Yasuo has the minimum dmg E, Lucian has his Q. Diana also has only 1 targeted skill, 2 actually if she hits a Q first.

Kobila20001 votes

I did play Yasuo. I own him. If hitting his Q is difficult for you, you can always get in close range by dashing through minions where missing it will be practically impossible.

Yes, both Zed and Diana have targeted ults. But Zed does not rely on a skillshot for his (technically you can just R with Diana onto a target if you want to see them running away with half hp, but we're talking kills here). Zed presses R and facerolls, because anything you throw at that range will hit. I'm not saying Zed himself is a faceroll champion, but skillshots are definitively not what makes him tricky. Not to mention, you're guaranteed an escape afterwards, not so with Diana. Same with Fizz, most of the time you'll just jump at the enemy and hit them with your ult for sure. Their ease of getting in melee range pretty much negates any risk associated with hitting skillshots, something Diana can't do. And despite having no way to escape, she does not have the kind of free burst Fizz and Zed have that will guarantee her a kill even if she's behind.

Oh Diana, my second favorite champion. I hate it when people say she is an assassin. She clearly is not. She unlike assassins lacks an escape after bursting someone down and try using your E as a squishy in the middle of a team fight. Bad idea. I always build her with items that got AP and some defensive stat plus one or two tank items to finish the build off. Unless I get really ahead and want to have fun slaughtering enemies, I never pick a rabadons or any other pure damage item. Also, I always rush a item 3115 I doubt it's the best idea, but I really like it, because I can proc my passive more and do lots of damage even when my spells are on cooldown. Must have item when jungling though.

i usually build this item 3259 item 3128 item 3157 item 3089 item 3135 item 3026 . and i know you have to hit her Q for this build to work but i guess this burst build works cuz i can 1 shot an adc and still have my sheild and my zhonians and guardian angel, i don't allway do this ofc if i need like a mana item cuz i have to poke a bit i get this item 3165 or item 3025 or item 3100 and so on... and to be honest i don't really like item 3115 if i atack someone for sure they have lifesteal and can out damage me cuz of tis item and i rather get a item 1058 and snowbaw even if i lose the tower i can allways gank bot lane and the burst of item 1058 + bot lane dmag usualy it's a kill that you win. but i coud be wron over al i just wanted to say that she is a nice champion not the great but defetly playable try her lose 1000 time and then you'll actually know how strong she is and you'll know her strengths weaknesses.

cshakes1 votes

She's an AP-AS bruiser currently. Try building a Devourer when jungling. Nashor's Tooth is also a good item. The rest should be Mercs + tank.

Havenscythe1 votes

She is good, her mana costs make her unviable though.

Alëk1 votes

She's pretty good jungle now.

She's just fine I did a round yesterday as Diana ended with 24/4/5 heck i wanna think she was stealth buffed

I build her assassin fighter

item 3027 item 3089 item 3006 item 3091 item 3110 item 3115

"what's the point of playing champions who need to hit their skillshots to land their full burst damage"...

Anyway, Diana excels post 6 especially in the jungle. She can burst down almost anyone with her combo, especially with the help of teammates in a gank. She's either an assassin or a bruiser, or a mix of both, but either way she's honestly really fun to play.

I typically build: item 3115, item 3100 or item 3025, item 3089, item 3020, item 3157, item 3001

item 3708

You can build situational items like: item 3143, item 3102, item 3146, item 3124, etc

Well I play Shaco (one of the worst champions in the game) and I make him work really well. Obviously I can't faceroll ezmode win every game but he's still really fun to play so the fact that he's not that great of a champion doesn't stop me from playing him. Same thing with season 3 Irelia when she was bad. Still played her and had a lot of fun doing so.

Windfallen1 votes

Please just learn how to q and budget your mana.

As someone who started out with Diana, and THEN played those other champs (Barring Fizz, won't even play him during free week.... he makes me foam at the mouth) I will always always feel more rewarded and have more fun for making sweet plays with Diana.

But if you want to go play another champ because you think they are 'broken', or 'ez' , go ahead. Other than Zed, all of those champs actually do take a degree of skill to do more than 'okay' despite what other people say.

I didn't own everybody with lucian the first time playing him, even while he was buff as hell. To this day, I see many fail lucian ults.

I still can't play Yasuo to his full potential, and it's wayyy harder when you've only got yourself to proc your ult. These days I don't want one on my team, and If I see him getting first picked I either laugh or groan depending.

Zed is retarded. While you're figuring out that combo that's actually really easy, you can get away when you fail. 0/10 Had I known, I would have given him the fizz treatment. He is one of those champs that you don't want to go up against if you don't know his kit firsthand, however.

I play AP bruiser Diana when laning. I just buy all AP items that offer defensive stats, along with maybe a randuins/banshees and deathcap. Some people play her with Nashors and lichbane, but that's never been my thing. Some argue it's better for jungling, but after just one or two items camps are a breeze anyway, imo.

Doesn't Zed need to land his Shuriken?

Sira Ren1 votes

Same with Nidalee. Takes a lot of skill to play her. Sometimes wonder why practice with Nid if I can use Fizz's invincibility and dominate mid/late game. But then again, when you land those spears and complete a combo, the feeling is so much more awesome than Fizz's stupid invincibility combo. Yes I hate Fizz. Yes I'm a hater.

Serpents Embrace1 votes

You have a good point.

I think I should give up on League. It's not going anywhere but down.

WooBeeWoo1 votes

Yeah it seems like skillshot champs aren't as effective or played as much anymore even tho its so much more badass to play and to watch skill shots. Like honestly it takes A LOT to make me go dam..... that Kat is really good when mostly all she needs to do is decide if she can live long enough to mash the buttons. Same with adcs.... I rarely go dam.... that adc right clicked sooooo good. But when I see a skill shot champ fuck someone up with great play.... I'm always ok with that lol.

SerBlaise1 votes

If you have trouble hitting your Q's as Diana I highly recommend building item 3009 and even item 3284 . You don't loose out on too much damage or defense and you will find it infinitely easier to hit your Q's. A little known secret of League: movement speed acts as a kind of range enhancer.
