I Just Met the Friendliest Opponent Ever

Toa of Death··76 votes·6,618 views

I just finished probably one of my worst games as my main, Cho'Gath(I didn't get a single kill). I was top and my lane opponent was a Vlad. For the most part, our top laning phase was pretty passive cause Vlad kept getting out of range of my Q and he couldn't wear me down enough to fight. My jungler was Poppy and she tried to gank for me to try and get this Vlad. We got him low, but so was I, and my thirst engines kicked in so I chased under tower and got killed. in /all chat I admitted I got too thirsty there and he replied "a tad bit. wp though :)." No "get rekt m8", no "ya think." He even said "wp cho. honors" in the post-game chat. I was feeling pretty crappy about my play that match but the kindness of that Vlad helped me feel better. That kind of behavior is what this community needs more of. We should not only be nice to our teammates but also to our enemies. Even if they're losing, there is no reason to make them feel bad about it.

Sometimes people take it the wrong way, b/c let's say for example that you go 15/2 or some really godly KDA. Saying "WP" can cause people to feel like you're mocking them, especially after they're likely on tilt. The way that it can be taken is "You played good, but not good enough, I'm better than you"

This is actually why saying "WP" in pro matches of starcraft is considered BM. So is saying GLHF but that's another issue.

Now if it's an extremely close game, people tend to be friendlier, but when it's a one-sided stomp, the losing team 9 times out of 10 would prefer it if the winning team says either nothing or "gg"

The correct answer to WP is "iOS" "Android" "BBOS" "WebOS".

idk how to take this but isn't the correct answer BSOD ? XD for anyone who knows what that acronym is for in windows XD

Really? I don't see how gg wp could be anything but a compliment. Its like saying that you were a worthy opponent and that i enjoyed playing with you.

I Main Swain2 votes

well, if it's an entirely 1 sided match it really isn't a good game imo, regardless of which side im on. If I wanted an easy win, I would play bots.

Pandemic Punch1 votes

I say gg all of the time win or lose. If someone takes it sarcastically then that is their own issue because that is not how I mean it.

Leetri2 votes

I always phrase it as "You played well" or if they have an AFK/troll I'll say "Sorry about your AFK/troll, you still played well considering", it removes the potential "I'm better than you" implication. I've noticed that every time I phrase it like that the opponent will thank me, so it works for me at least. :P If it's just a stomp I won't say anything, not even GG, because it was clearly not a good game for them and it would feel like rubbing it in.

I had kind of the opposite situation happen. I was playing Jungle Eve (I main Eve) and ended up taking control of the game early and guided us to a solid win. I will spare the details but I was really fed and built damage and you know how fed assassins go. Anyway, during the postgame the enemy team was calling to report their own jungler, but he was just like....

"Wow!! Thank you Eve! You played great!" and then I received a gift from him of one of the Evelynn skins I was missing.

Never really seen that before, he wasn't even mad. He wasn't calling for "nerf Eve" or "riot please" or "new permaban" etc. He just thanked me for the game, gifted me, I added him, and he left.

I've been reported for this behavior.

I'm not a toxic player, but getting reported for that and actually getting a warning for it discourages positive behavior.

Something something dialogue about youth becoming more and more detached from society because something something technology.

I had a pretty cool lane opponent too, it was a bro lane with me as Aatrox and they were Nautilus . Before the first 2 minutes of the game he asked if it was alright if we could just stay passive and farm while everything else was going on, I agreed. Because of this I told my jungler to just focus on other lanes and ignore mine, which he did. But his jungler XinZhao really wanted me dead for some reason and came top multiple times to kill me. And I probably would have died if Nautilus joined in, but he stuck to his word, and even warned me when he was coming. The only one that was annoyed by this was XinZhao , because everyone else was actually defending us when he started to type his frustration in chat. At one point though both of us decided that it was time to help our teams and wished each other luck on the battlefield, it was a really fun game.

Reminds me of the time I went Nasus vs Nasus "Bro wanna just farm?" "Fine by me" /all DONT GANK TOP /all DONT GANK TOP proceed to 4v4 for the next 30 minutes

Lol I can just imagine two dogs chowing down on a farm full of minions watching their owners running around looking for them

Who won the stacking fight?

terkmc1 votes

He did. He had farming focus runes and masteries so free faring was his prime enviroment. I had a more defensive survival set, which of course went un-used in the laning phase

LOL. I've had that too, except most of the times it was a Nasus, and we didn't attack eachother throughout the entire match.

For the sake of this example I will be Lulu cause WHO DOESN'T WANNA BE LULU.

(This is /all chat)

Lulu: Darn it I died, but I got my ADC a double so worth I guess. wp.

Akali: GG ez

Lulu: There are no Ezreals in this game what are you talking about?

Akali: I meant easy, fuckin retard.

Lulu: If you're gonna insult someone who is a writer, then say easy instead of Ezreal. Your sentence made no sense twit.

Akali: Reported for sucking

Lulu: Reported for not being a decent human being.

Akali: doesn't say anything after this

Lulu: ... That shut you right up. Ez.

I've had lanes where we pointed out what we did wrong to each other and ended up in doing the whole "i kill you, we come back you kill me, rinse repeat thing". These are the games that I leap forward as a player from.

Unfortunately, they are rare so I still suck overall.

Hence the reason I report everyone who says gg ez. team mate or opponent alike.

Pretty sad state of affairs when what qualifies as "friendliest opponent ever" is a guy who isn't a dick when he beats you.

This community can be scary haha.

I had to restart my computer due to major issues in game, which so far my only way of fixing is to restart my computer. So I typed in all chat that I was doing that, and a teammate got angry at me, and said, "don't tell them that they don't need to know that." Of course, not as proper of grammar as I typed there, but for clarity's sake, I'll improve the mess. My response was, "Last time I checked, there are ten players in the game, me leaving cuts the experience for everyone, so i'm telling them." I then left before he responded, wasted enough time typing that anyways.

That moment when Riven main pops in and spams laugh and dance animations while typing "gg easy" because it's the first time she was useful to the team.

Anidan2 votes

I only hate when a fed Katarina starts spam-laughing. Yes, we get it, you're ahead. Our deaths prove it. Nice to know you can't have fun unless someone is miserable as a direct result. I hear Schadenfreude is highly valued among only the loveliest of people.

Also, isn't spam-laughing reportable or something? I remember reading that on ye olde Forums, pre-archive. Sorta wish I had a way to turn off enemy emotes, to be 100% honest. All of them - jokes, taunts, dance, laugh. It would be a lot nicer to be able to pretend the enemy isn't just some douche who thinks he has to laugh at everyone he's currently doing better than. Unfortunately that stuff all has animations, too, so Riot won't do it.

haha, gg easy :P i just felt i'd make your day. Riven riven's need love so do poppy's because like riven if its your first game as then your gonna suck, unless that one patch that gave free auto canceling. but despite the hatred we keep fighting and trying to become better no matter the pain others may make you feel unwanted etc. in the end its the feeling on confidence that can make both these champs truly strong, although don't make them feel they can 1 vs 5 the team and win if there 1/6 :P

I know I was just playing around. I am currently unranked, so I play with a lot of Rivens that either rage quit or tunnel vision their lane when mid game hits. So they tend to get carried away when the Riven snowball starts happening because it's rare in lower leagues. This leads to emote spamming.

I do know Rivens in platinum, and around there you start to realize just how hard Riven mains go. I was just pointing out something we've probably all experienced. summoner 31

Yeah, and sucking your teammates' dicks (overbearingly complimenting them at every opportunity) tend to help as well.

I have a similar experience, funnily enough it was a Vlad player also. Anywho it was a teambuilder game and I saw that they had a platinum Vlad against our unranked Talon, my immediate thought was GG matchmaking Rito followed by groaning at the thought of this Vlad getting really fed and dominating the game and being an ass in all chat. Boy was I wrong. Vlad started talking to us in all chat throughout the game, fairly early on wishing us "GL HF :)"and the like, meanwhile I had Talon flaming me for not ganking enough and it was "too late now" because Vlad hit level 6 or 7 and i'd only ganked his lane 3 times so far. The Talon started flaming pretty much everyone on the team and it spilled into all chat, Vlad came to our defence telling him to chill out as it was only a normal game afterall.

Anyways we were getting beat badly and the enemy got baron and made their way onto our Nexus, the enemy Thresh decided to take it upon himself to say "gg easy" as they were taking our nexus turrets, unfortunately for him we all got back up and put a stop to the win, "doesn't matter we won anyway :)" (anyone notice how it's always the worst players on the team that trash talk?) anyways this must've lit a fire inside everyone on our team because we spent the next 20 minutes fighting off backdoor attempts on our open nexus while picking up kills and securing objectives and just hanging in there.

By this point Vlad told us Thresh had started flaming his own team now, anyway we had a very long fought game of just trying to survive and it must've been about 20 minutes and 2 barons to our team later that we managed to ace them and have enough time to push down mid and take their nexus for the win, as we were on the way there Vlad said "To be honest i'm glad we lost, you don't even deserve to win Thresh." And i've gotta say even though it was only a teambuilder game it was one of the most satisfying wins i've ever had and props to Vlad for being incredibly chill for the entire game through both the good times and the bad.

Makes me feel a tad guilty that originally I was discriminating him based upon his rank in relation to ours and assumed he'd act like an asshole, nothing was further from the truth <3

Hard Penetrator1 votes

I was rough on one pretty bad Ori once (he went like 1/13 or something) after some time when I calmed down while watching my loosing streak I checked his opponent (hight diamond prenerf yasuo main) and I felt really bad. Ori player was low silver with 0 chances of going even or winning this matchup.

I added him to say I was sorry for being a dick and we both felt much better. I even duo with him from time to time.

It is a good step to improve your behaviour and make some friends.

I once was playing support against an ADC Quinn, and somehow everyone in the game was just chill. Both teams were cracking jokes in /all chat, and whenever we wanted to kill the Quinn, one of us would just yell "Valor! To me!" Every time, Quinn would ult and come rushing over to us. Eventually, we outscaled their team and won, but it was close the whole way through. As we were letting our minions push the Nexus Towers, Quinn backed and said in allchat "hay guise look at muh bild." Six Tears. I nearly died laughing, and we've been good friends ever since.

Oh, and what happened when we killed Valor?

There actually is a reason although it's bad mannered. When you make your opponent feel bad about a bad play they made, they'll often tilt and make worse plays the rest of the game by playing super aggressively when behind.
