Change to Dorans Shield

Even though I'm not keen on the idea of buffing it, I think you can make it a healthier option by focusing on improving it's strength in its niche. Remove the HP regen from it but buff it's block up to 9-10 damage, reduce the cost to 400 so you can have two potions.

Aside from the cost reduction, removing the regen and adding only 2 extra damage block sounds like a nerf to me.

You'd be surprised how powerful the block passive is. The item as it is can't be good in its current state unless you focus on giving its block and flat HP a buff and remove its sustain. When D-shield was OP in s3, it was because it gave 10hp/5, not because of the health or block. This change wouldn't make an absolute must in any situation, this makes it incredibly powerful vs single target spell spammers and auto attackers. The extra pot really helps, too.

You do realize that the block applies before resistances. Making the Shield only block 4 damage if you have 100 armor of example. I already brought it up in my topic here

I didn't actually know that it applies before resistances. That's interesting.

That still does prove my point though, it's only ever been good when it's hp/5 is absurd. With block and unyielding in the defensive tree, a change to the block passive on d-shield and removal of its sustain plus the decrease in cost would still make it very effective in its niche.

You don't want this item to be too strong though either, because it can be a very game changing item for weaker early game champions.

and thats why its an early game item. autos from ranged champions really add up in lane and this item, along with masteries allow melees to soak up just enough to not be completely pushed out of lane. at the same time, it will not be OP by mid-game and forwards in anyway

Please read my thread and rethink your position. Shield is a terrible item in every shape way and form compared to other starting items.

It shouldn't be as good as the other 2 items tbh, not even close to as good.

If it shouldnt be as good as the other 2 then why does it exist? Why bother even getting it? It provides jack compared to other possible starting items.

Because it's an item designed to help deal with a specific style of play. When it's been good, it's given champions who aren't supposed to have a good early game a free pass. It CAN'T be as good as the others, it can be way stronger. I think if anything, Riot should focus more on it as a niche item designed to help deal with harass.

Just reduce the cost to 400 or 405 and it's done
