Tip: 'Unique' means a passive does not stack, no matter how many you buy

So, I just wanted to point this out... I'm bronze, but still just had this happen. Went against a Syndra that was doing pretty well in lane, but by the end we were beating her a lot easier. End game I noticed this as her build:

item 3151 item 3151 item 3135 item 3135 item 3165 item 3020

Edit:

[{quoted}](name=Tidal Tyrant,realm=EUW,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=4O5xA5Qq,comment-id=0000,timestamp=2016-10-25T16:23:17.251+0000)

Also, unique passives like Lifeline item 3156 item 3053 do not stack, despite being on different items :l

Edit 2: Greatly explained here:

[{quoted}](name=Inept Maverick,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=4O5xA5Qq,comment-id=0003,timestamp=2016-10-25T18:20:52.989+0000)

To be crystal clear, this is how it works:

Passive: -------------------------

This means the Passive will stack in every way. Multiples of this Passive from the same item will stack and similar passives on different items will stack with this. Ex: item 1056 + item 1056 will grant 8 mana on unit kill.

UNIQUE Passive: ----------------------------

This means that buying the same item multiple times will not grant this Passive more than once/the Passive will not stack from the same item. However, the same UNIQUE Passive from a different item will stack. Ex: item 3067 + item 3067 will grant only +10% CDR, but item 3067 + item 3133 will grant +20% CDR.

UNIQUE Passive- Name: -----------------------------

Other UNIQUE Passives with the same name will not stack in any way what so ever. The only exceptions are Spellblade and Echo, which will use whichever effect is currently more powerful (still not stacking). Iceborn Gauntlet will stack with other Spellblade effects for example, but the AoE Damage will only damage the primary target if the other Spellblade effect would deal less damage. Ex: item 3071 + item 3078 will only grant one instance of the Rage passive. Dealing physical damage will proc Black Cleaver and basic attacking will proc Trinity Force, but performing a basic attack that deals physical damage will only proc one of the items.

Remember to think of creative interactions between champions and one or multiple items!

For example, my late game "I don't care about your adc" Thresh build that only gets stronger and stronger as time goes on

item 3075 item 3146 item 3025 item 3068 item 3111 item 3110

Heal from hextech works on Thornmail + Sunfire + Iceborn. By the nature of this build and thresh's passive giving armor from souls (Up to a maximum bonus of 749,999.25 armor and ap, if I recall correctly) this makes it possible to become a healing monster. Alternatively you could get item 3158 +item 3065 if they have a balanced team comp and you want to have 45% cdr.

At Bronze, its best to just use the recommended build. Unless its terrible, which some of them are, you will get a fairly balanced generalized build. Once you learn the champ and match-ups, you can start to figure out what items work best in certain situations.

Also like Tidal Tyrant said, different items can have the same Unique Passive, so you gotta read an items description before buying it.

Good post though, purely educational. We need more posts like this.

Should have gotten double boots. Pen stacks on that.

Named passives (ex: Eyes of Pain) can't be replicated under any circumstance. If they have different triggers (ex: life line & spellblade), they all share a cooldown.

Unnamed unique passives (armor pen and heal/shield buff) stack between different items, but not multiple instances of the same item.

It literally says in the game when you goto buy an item Unique items with the same name don't stack

Anyone else tired of these farming for upvotes posts?

ArnoldSchwarzens10/26/2016, 3:03:09 PM2 votes

Yeah this is why I find the new Lethality items to be super confusing. The Lethality and out of combat movement speed they give are unique passives yet they stack with each other.

Spoofghoul10/25/2016, 8:43:06 PM2 votes

That doesn't stop me from building item 3065 item 3065 item 3065 item 3065 Oritem 3143 item 3143 item 3143 item 3143 item 3143

Sometimes there are other reasons to stack an item besides it's unique passive ^^

CrazedPorcupine10/25/2016, 11:46:57 PM2 votes

UNIQUE NAMED PASSIVES DO NOT STACK UNIQUE PASSIVES THAT ARE NOT NAMED DON'T STACK FROM THE SAME ITEM UNIQUE PASSIVES FROM DIFFERENT ITEMS DO STACK

This is why the forbidden Idol items stack, the Armor Pen Items stack, and every CDR item ever, but why two of the same item is generally garbage.

(Fun fact: Archangel's Mana->AP conversion used to be unnamed non-unique, so a popular build way back in the day was to build RoA, then 3 Archangels, and then a Rabadon's and boots, and have well over 1k AP on every AP champ who used mana ever)

CookyPrince10/26/2016, 1:57:46 AM2 votes

That build made me cringe

TotalJerk10/26/2016, 1:39:22 PM2 votes

One exception; item 3222 and item 3504 stack with each other but not themselves.

Speedphoenix10/26/2016, 9:08:11 PM1 votes

actually item 3053 and item 3156 DO stack, HOWEVER, both passives get triggered at the same time, for instance if magic damage reduces your hp under that value, you get both shields at once

Paroe10/25/2016, 11:33:54 PM1 votes

Another thing people dont realize is that item 3087 item 3094 share a counter, but ONLY proc when its applicable. shiv will only proc if youre within shiv range and RFC will only proc if youre outside shiv range.

I'm bronze, but still just had this happen.

Kinda contradicting yourself there lol, you are at the lowest tier in the game so obviously people in this tier won't be that good at the game, it's where new players who just started ranked get placed for example. And this game takes a long time to learn tbh, you should not expect someone who just got level 30 to know much about this game. But I'm pretty sure most people on the boards are past that point so this post won't really help the people here.

but i usually buyitem 3071 x4 or x5 on riven to feel like urf with 0.1 s cds
