Any official announcement regarding the ping spikes / latency issues this week?

I've experienced pretty significant connectivity issues over the last few days and have talked to MANY friends and teammates who have randomly been encountering them as well. However, I haven't seen any message in the client regarding the problems, have received no loss prevention, and can't seem to find anything on the boards about it. Has Riot not acknowledged the problems yet?

It seems to be affecting a large enough number of players that I have at least 1-2 people per game complaining about ping spikes, 1-2 second delays on clicks and skill casts, etc. . It would be nice to get some info on what's causing the problem, whether it be something on Riot's end, or perhaps an Internet backbone having issues or something. I stopped playing ranked for now, after losing my last four games (two yesterday, two the day before) because teammates and/or myself were getting severe lag.
