But AP champs are allowed to buy item 3116 item 3151 item 3157 item 3027 ...?....

The last game i had as a darius. i had black cleaver spirit visage randuins n half a dead mans setup

The brand had just as much health as me because he bought item 3151 item 3116 and item 3027..

I think i had only 250 more health than him..

Health is less effective by itself than resistances are when combined with health or shields. Warmogs and Thornmail are both worse on their own than Randuin's is.

3000 health with 80 armor is much worse than 3000 health with 300 armor.

The problem witu Hexdrinker/Maw isn't that it gives defensive stats, it's that it gives defensive stats, multiple offensive stats, a defensive passive, and an absurdly smooth buildpath. All of those mage items have pretty terrible buildpath. For Maw, you even get a mini version of it as part of the buildpath. The other side of the item build has the Dirk, which is another smooth component buildpath. Just keep buying longswords. Mages can't just keep buying amplifying tomes and have it work out in the end.

Yes but less effective does not mean it doesnt work. A GTR is less effective than a modern lambo in terms of speed, doesnt mean the GTR is by any means useless..???

Thats false. There are plenty of situations where thornmail is more optimal than randuins, specifically in the early game where there is not much MR and lifesteal together.

Ive been through a lot of games where thornmail is the reason someone was able to come back and carry.

3000 health with 80 armor is much worse than 3000 health with 300 armor.

You are a broken record.

But the problem with zhonyas rod rylais and liandrys is that it gives 400/500/300 health respectively and a Statis + 45 armor and damage..?

All of those mage items have pretty terrible buildpath.

lol ok no.

And AD champs cant just keep buying longswords for CDR..?...

AP champs are extremely biased it seems.. You guys can have an item give a slow, health, major AP or an armor item, mid AP, cdr and a stasis but AD champs cant have maw

Ok.

If you have a thornmail and nothing else, you aren't coming back from anytjing except repeated trips to the fountain.

Thornmail by itself is terrible. When you start stacking health and armor behind it, it can actually become somewhat useful. Although in its current state it's still pretty bad.

I'm not really biased towards mage items. I hate zhonyas and Rylai's needs nerfed somehow. Buy longswords for some cdr? Okay item 3142 Just health or just armor will help stay alove, but health alone won't make you actually tanky.

Thornmail makes any AD champ not hit you. Period. it may not be the most optimal first item rush but its not a bad item.

Until MR and lifesteal comes in. You can bullshit all you want but facts are facts.

My opinion is that if an item removes an intended weakness of a champion, there is a problem. Maw was especially bad in this way back when it gave Attack Speed, as it meant DPS champions had a good way to survive AP Burst without much sacrifice. Basic understanding of game mechanics should explain why this is in fact terrible. It's not as bad now; Maw is more of an AD Burst item than before and having a tool meant to counter Burst as a Burst champion isn't nearly as grievous, but there are tuning arguments to be made.

Also, beware that Brand is just a weird mage as a whole. Xerath for example couldn't abuse that sort of build nearly as badly as Brand could, whereas Ryze or Rumble or Swain require tanky AP builds like that. I'm sure you don't think it's weird when a Juggermage like Vladimir is Tanky; that's why those items exist in their current form, to enable the Battle Mages that need them. Brand's just kinda an abuse case of these item then, imo.

You are thinking wrong then, or there is more to this story.

As a mage, the frustration with Maw comes from a few points. There are a lot of situations where I've only get one spell rotation, and if I kill the ADC in that rotation then I live, and I die if I don't. Having a shield auto-activate and save someone who I caught by surprise sucks, dying and watching them heal up thanks to the lifestyle adds insult to injury.

I don't mind Hexdrinker/Maw as a Fighter/Juggernaut item as much. I just really hate it on ADCs.

I do agree, the excessive health on AP items is a little dumb. I've had situations as Xerath where I'll tank the enemy Inhibitor or Nexus tower for the team because I got Rylai's, Zhonya's, and Liandry's that game.

Maw is so good because it's a complete counter to AP like Thornmail is to AD, but it gives insane offensive stats as well. 50 AD, 10 armor pen, and the lifesteal and spellvamp when low health would be enough to be picked on its own, but combine that with 50 magic resist and a 400 magic shield is completely broken.

I don't think Maw has the increase attack speed low health.

Sorry, my bad. The point still stands though.

also it's a 200 health magic shield that only works for 1 thing you can time it if you getting poke it's pops when it does

IGotScuttleCrabs1 votes

Because it does a fuck load of things?

  • MR
  • AD
  • Armor pen
  • MR shield without needing to activate
  • Life steal and spell vamp when low
  • Easy to build.
  • Can build mini Maw first.

Just a major counter to mages and assassins who probably unloaded everything on you and failed from Maw requiring 0 though.

"Why are people against mages having the same health as Darius when Darius gets that and 25%+30% Armor Pen and True Damage?" See, we can compare apples to Noxians on forums all day but it won't get us anywhere. Different champions are different and function differently. Consequently, one can't take just a single stat out of many, make a comparison, and complain that the treatment is unfair or unequal when the comparison itself was inequitable...

Why are people so against Maw of Malmoritus?

Especially when the conclusion of the comparison has nothing to with the stat you are comparing. Maw doesn't even have health! And there is no way that Darius would have only 250 more health than a Brand in any expected game of League of Legends.

"Why are people against mages having the same health as Darius when Darius gets that and 25%+30% Armor Pen and True Damage?"

Because that ''true damage'' and ''30% armor pen'' takes time to ramp up and is melee so should be more punishing..? Just like how brands passive is 12% max health..?

We are talking about AP champs having a bullshit build pattern but complain about maw of malmoritus

Especially when the conclusion of the comparison has nothing to with the stat you are comparing. Maw doesn't even have health!

When it procs it gives you a huge shield which is essentially temporary health.

And there is no way that Darius would have only 250 more health than a Brand in any expected game of League of Legends.

Err with the build i listed its actually 100% possible..

Rylais 400 health

Rod of ages 500 health

Liandrys 300 health

Sum = 1200

Spirit visiage 500 health

Black cleaver 300 health

Randuins 500 health

Sum 1300 health

So the main difference would be from runes........
